## **HANDinHAND ETHIOPIA : ANNUAL REPORT MARCH 2026** The year to March 2026 has been another successful year for HandinHand Ethiopia. The number of children on the sponsorship scheme is 214 at the time of writing. Financially, HandinHand Ethiopia remains in a strong position. Total income for the year amounted to £37068.96 with total expenditure of £50539.83. This indicates a deficit of £13470.87, however this is not a true reflection of the financial year for the following reason: - HMRC Gift Aid payment for 2024/25 was not received in this financial year despite the claim being submitted to HMRC in June 2025. This is being pursued with HMRC. It would be expected that this claim would be valued in the region of £8000. Normalising for this matter suggests that there would have been a deficit of approximately £5470 which is in line with the plan to gradually reduce the remaining cash held by the charity. Total remaining cash held by the charity in the bank at the end of the financial year is £27723.05. With the Ethiopian government providing free education and free school meals for kindergarten and primary school children, the Project decided that every child/guardian/family will get a food supply every month. The sponsored children will continue to receive the full benefit of the monthly £12.50 sponsorship. Any funds left over from changes to the food support will be spent on each child and go towards purchasing underwear, clothes and shoes. In June 2025 a payment of £2,450.00 was made for the purchase of shoes for all children on the project. (There was another payment of £2,450.00 for the purchase of shoes for all children on the project in this financial year but this was a delayed payment for 2024/25). A further gift of £1250.00 was provided to enable a celebratory Christmas Party to be held in Addis Ababa for all the children. The Trustees plan gradually to wind down the HandinHand project over the next two years to 2028. The above-mentioned changes within Ethiopia itself mean that the charity’s original aims – to provide food and an education for children affected by HIV/Aids – are now being fulfilled. In addition, the Project itself was always intended to be time limited – its aim was to support the Ethiopians in that part of Addis Ababa to become self-sufficient. In total, the Project will have worked in Addis Ababa for 20 years by the time 2028 is reached. As a consequence, no new children will be taken on for sponsorship, but all current children will be supported until they finish their education and/or find employment. It is anticipated that sponsors in the UK will continue supporting their individual children until they either finish school or start work. Plans are in place to support the staff working on the Project as they leave to find new opportunities. There has not been a visit to Addis Ababa by sponsors since October 2018, mainly due to covid and increased security concerns, but regular contact is maintained with the local workers on the project. Responsibilities and Basis of Report
As the charity trustees of the Trust, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the
requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (the Act).
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust's accounts carried out under Section 145 of the 2011 Act and in
carrying out my examination I have followed the applicable directions given by the Charity Commission under Section
145(5)(b) of the Act.
Independent Examiner's Statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the
examination which gives me cause to believe that in any material respect:
l accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Act; or
l the accounts do not accord with the accounting records
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should
