**West African Development** (WAD) have 9 people in the Committee who deal with the decision making under our constitution and average 25 volunteers who are giving their time to support our work and also sharing the ideas for the progress of WAD and the BAME communities in Tameside and Greater Manchester.
WAD committees members meet regularly to ensure we are reacting to the needs of the local community. We are a registered charity (No 1132899) and we are up to date with our information with the Charity Commission in England and Wales. West African Development (WAD) providing the following services:

We were set up to work with those of West African origin, but not exclusively. West African Development (WAD) services benefited:

## **2021/2022 Report**
**West African Development** (WAD) aim to improve the quality of life of African’s and other ethnic minority people living in Tameside and elsewhere. Due to a financial crisis, this has had huge impact on our community and the services and the activities we provide for our service users. There been a number of challenges in our community over the last 12 months which has included social isolation, digital exclusion and the mental health, unemployment and the lack of education and training.
For minority groups, it is important that our people living with a basic and essential for living and in suitable accommodation, it is constantly battling marginalisation and proving that their lives are worthy too, in housing, health, education, and criminal justice and so on. It is important, now more than ever, to consciously break down barriers to equality in the context of employment and beyond.
The following activities are what we delivered over the last **12 months** to tackle on some of these issues and barriers.
1. Provided support and access to digital access via internet and resources for those who are digitally disconnected.
2. Provided signposting and basic support to refugee and asylum seekers living in Tameside on where to connect for support.
3. Provided support to local communities on how to remain safe.
4. Translation advice and support to communities
5. Supported on health improvement information and support to BAME communities living in housing provided by local authority.
6. Consultation with the community to identify and understand housing needs.
7. Prevention of Race Hate Crimes and domestic abuse - Many BME people lives are effected by undermining their self-confidence and willingness to access services or become involved. WAD can provide support improving selfconfidence via workshop and community related projects.
8. Rolling out and supporting communities through winter pressures and support to most vulnerable during this season. During the cold winter months West African Development have worked with our vulnerable community to ensure they stayed warm and had the basic necessities to get through these difficult times. A lot of the communities

we serve and supported had either lost jobs some were made redundant which impacted on their financial situations. Many of them were experiencing poverty. Many of them were reliant of food banks and other support agencies where English was a second language this was a problem for many of them.
## **WAD actions for the short term:**
- 1) Continue to provide one to one support sessions for families and individual who need support in Tameside to continue to thrive socially and economically.
- 2) Develop set up and support of ESOL provision to ensure local communities develop a sense of belonging and community inclusion.
- 3) Development of relationship with key service providers in Tameside.
## **Other activities have included** :

- Faith Program Multi-faith Chaplaincy support
- Basic Advisory and Counselling Services
- Women and Youth Empowerment Program
- Online Children and school holiday activities.

duties under the Charities commission, we have reviewed the financial statements of the entity
that has been prepared by your office and from the accounting records and infomiation and
explanations you have given to us.
This report is made to the Trustees in accordance with the tenns of our engagement. Our work
has been undertaken to prepare for approval by the Trustees the financial statements that we
have been engaged to review and the prepared accounts by your offLce, to report to the Trustees
that we have done so, and to state those matters that we have agreed to state to them in this
report and for no other purpose. To the fullest extent pemiitted by law, we do not accept or
