## Public benefit statement

The Trustees confirm that they have complied with the duty in section 17 of the Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit, ‘Charities and Public Benefit’.

Summary of the main achievements during the period 2025 has been another busy year in the life of our vibrant, multicultural, inner urban city church. We continue to pursue our aim of ‘Crossing Cultures with Christ’. Our leadership and participation in church life expresses that desire.

This year more people have chosen to attend church in person but a few still join us using Zoom.

As a way of reaching out to the people in our parish, letting them know that we exist and that we care about them, we once again delivered Christmas cards to many homes in our parish. Our Christmas services this year had more visitors than for many years.

This year we continued with our Church Without Walls programme: offering free tea and coffee near a supermarket in our parish as an opportunity to meet people and get to know them. It has proved very successful. We meet fortnightly on Saturday morning and find that people are surprised and delighted that we are offering something new and a chance to chat. Although building numbers of those who come on Sunday morning to our services is not the real aim several have started to do so. We also offered the same service at Christmas at the switch on of the Christmas tree lignts.

On Tuesday evenings we hold an online Al Massira course for people from a Muslim background. The course takes about 6 months to complete and has about 15 members. When the course has been completed members move to our group that used to meet online on Thursday evenings. After several years meeting online, we are now meeting in person and that has greatly helped us to relate more closely with each other.

We have continued to serve the most vulnerable with deliveries of hygiene products, kindly given to us by another voluntary sector organisation, the Hygiene Bank.

This year community tensions have been quite taught over immigration, but we have attended meetings to try to address the issues that people are raising.

In June we had a national conference for churches that have large numbers of lranians. Guli Dehghani Tafti, the bishop of Chelmsford, our own Bishop Andy and the Archbishop of York, Steven Cottrell, attended. There was a wonderful feeling of support and shared resources and experiences.

Lesley Silcock, one of our longest standing members, was ordained deacon and is serving her curacy in our parish. She has brought a huge amount of ideas, pastoral care and new initiatives. One of those new ideas is a monthly Sunday evening 'Open to God' service in which we spend time in silence listening to God and sharing together what he has said.

Several leaders attended a ‘Cultural Bridge’ course to help foreign national church leaders understand British culture better.

Children, young people and families have always been an important part of the life of our church. During this year we have tried different ways of supporting and including them during services with special children’s activities, involvement in all age worship, including leading the service, and a summer programme. We have a monthly Youth Group for secondary school age children. We take regular assemblies at our local schools, including a private Muslim Primary School, and they visit the church for Experience Easter and Christingle and concerts. Once a month on Saturday mornings we hold Messy Church for families which attracts about 40 people. We have a large team of about 20 people that help facilitate the event, which includes lunch afterwards.

Our leadership training programme is helping new people to come forward to help lead. One of our members is training to be a Reader on our diocesan training programme.

We bought a new industrial cooker for our community centre, which has enabled us to offer more hospitality.

Despite a year of spending more than income, the church has given away over £11,000 including to those less fortunate in our own community and those in other parts of the world.

Fola Sowunmi, one of our Readers started a new monthly group, 'Mizpah', which works with women and has proved very popular. The women attending come from various parts of Nottingham and have appreciated the pastoral support and prayer ministry.

## Financial review

We have spent more than we have had come in, this shortfall has been covered by legacy money.

The charity’s policy on reserves The charity aims to keep 3 months running costs as reserves.

## Financial risks

The financial risk that the charity faces is an ageing long standing congregation and newcomers with little money.
