Principal Address Wrexham Methodist Church, Regent Street, Wrexham. LL11 1RY
B. Structure, Governance and Management
Type ofgoverningdocument Deed of Union(1932)and Methodist Church Act(1976)
How is the charityconstituted Act of Parliament
Trustee selection methods Appointed by local churches and existing trustees: Ministers are
automatically trustees.
Structure Part of the Wales Synod;accountable to the Methodist Conference
C. Objectives and Activities
Summary of the objects of the
charity set out in its governing
document
The purposes of the Methodist Church are and shall be deemed to have
been since the Date of Union the advancement of:
a)
The Christian faith in accordance with the doctrinal standards
and discipline of the Methodist Church;
b)
Any charitable purpose for the time being of any Connexional,
District, Circuit, local or other organisation of The Methodist Church;
c)
Any charitable purpose for the time being of any society or
institution subsidiary or ancillary to The Methodist Church;
d)
Any purpose for the time being of any charity being a charity
subsidiary or ancillary to The Methodist Church.
Summary of the main activities
undertaken for the public
benefit in relation to these
objects
The circuit produces a quarterly preaching plan to ensure regular acts of
worship take place at each of the 8 Methodist churches and chapels in
its geographical area. These acts of worship are open to all.
The circuit supports the Open the Book initiative and teams serve
several local schools around the circuit. The circuit also runs and
supports two successful after-school drop-ins in Llangollen and the old
Rhosnesni chapel plus a number of parent and toddler groups. Most of
our churches make their church halls available to their local communities
as a resource, and we have also hosted coffee mornings and luncheon-
clubs, which have been a much-valued meeting place for people from
the wider community. Many churches collect for the local foodbank and
a number of churches support the annual T4U shoe box appeal. A variety
of other charities are supported by the efforts of individual churches.
Also during the year volunteers from the circuit have worked as prison
and university chaplains, pastoral visitors, hospital volunteers, volunteer
drivers, and as helpers in the town’s Foodbank and Holiday Hunger
charities. Sadly, for the present, many of these activities have been
temporarily curtailed by Covid restrictions. We confirm that the trustees
have had regard to the CharityCommission’sguidance onpublic benefit.

D. Achievements and performance

D. Achievements andperformance D. Achievements andperformance
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity
during the year
The circuit exists to resource and support its churches in their mission to
the communities in which they are situated. However, during this year
the worship and other activities of the churches have been severely
affected by lockdowns and ongoing coronavirus restrictions. During this
time worship has been maintained through weekly Zoom services and
worship sheets distributed by mail and e-mail. Similarly, work with
children and families has been maintained with online Messy church
sessions each month. A weekly newsletter distributed by post and email
keeps members informed of news and developments, and as churches
have reopened following the lockdowns congregations have begun to
build again.
During the year Rhosddu Methodist Church became a class of Wrexham
Methodist Church,though monthlyworshipat Rhosddu continues.
E. Financial Review
Brief statement of the charity’s
policy on reserves.
The Reserves Policy for the Wrexham Methodist Circuit is to hold a sum
equivalent to 50% of a normal year’s expenditure – ie. approximately
£75,000. This is deemed sufficient to meet any unforeseen item of
major expenditure on manses and/or to be able to continue, in the short
term, the funding of planned activities in the event of the closure of a
large church or an inability to raise the full Circuit Assessment from
churches.
Details of any funds materially in
deficit
None
Overview of the accounts In the 2020/21 accounts:
77% of the Circuit’s income was provided by the local churches, and an
additional 13% came in the form of grant support from the Wales Synod
of the Methodist Church.
60% of the Circuit’s expenditure was on ministerial stipends and related
costs, and a further 15% was our contribution to the Synod, of which
part is used to fund the work of the wider Methodist Church. Major
refurbishment of the Spring Road manse meant that a further 17% of
expenditure was on property maintenance.
