**PCC  Secretary’s Report for 2020 Calendar Year** 

St Mark’s PCC has the responsibility of co-operating with the incumbent in promoting the whole mission of the Church – pastoral, evangelical, social and ecumenical within the ecclesiastical parish and has maintenance responsibilities for St Mark’s Church, for the Church Institute known as the White House, and for St Germain’s Tower. 

The service held at St Marks on Sunday 15[th] of March 2020, the culmination of “Come and see Week”-was the last normal service to be held in St Marks in 2020. “Lockdown” to control the spread of the Corona virus began that week. Routine meetings of the PCC, and also the  Annual General meeting (APCM) at which elections take place could not be held. 

Membership of PCC As elections could not be held membership of the PCC has continued for the moment as for 2020 viz:- 

Church Wardens     Mrs Sue Sotheran and Mr Peter Tinkler 

Representatives on the Deanery Synod  Mrs Janet Dack, (Reader) Miss Joan Hornby. Elected Representatives Mrs Elizabeth Fox,Mrs Clare Marshall,Mrs Margaret Tinkler,Mrs Sue Thompson,Mrs Jean Wardell,Mr  Jonathan Bragg,  Mr Graeme Cox, Mr Andrew Fox, Mr Ian Stoker,Mr John Ridgway 

Services on Sundays, Mondays and Wednesdays were suspended at St Mark’s church during the periods 16 March to 4 July and 5 November to 5 December. Services on Sundays and Wednesdays were re-instated during the periods 5 July to 4 November and 6 December to 6 January 2021 during which no singing was allowed and the congregation had to socially distance. The church was open for one hour each day for private prayer during the periods 15 June to 3 July and 9 November to 2 December. During the year when no services were held the vicar produced very helpful short videos of reflections, readings and prayers which were available on the church Facebook page. 

The PCC met on three occasions before lockdown to discuss matters related to LYCIG and the plans for “Come and See” events in the deanery and at St Mark’s. It met once in September -extremely socially distanced using the entire main hall of the White House -when the lockdown rules had been somewhat relaxed - to take account of the impact of Covid on St Mark’s and to make plans, if possible. 

The APCM was held on the 18[th] of October to when the initial lockdown had been relaxed, to conduct essential business. The continuation in office of the  churchwardens and of the 2020 PCC was endorsed. 

The Electoral Roll at December 31[st] 2020 stands at 169. Of these  23 were non-residents of the Parish

## **The White House** 

Mrs Katie Callaghan has taken responsibility for White House bookings and maintenance. Last year the PCC considered the future of the White House and decided to implement a programme of improvements as and when finances were available from fund raising, grants and donations. New toilets, the conversion of the store room into a meeting room, upvc windows for the entire building, new washable flooring for the two halls, repairs to the flat roof and a new heating system have all been completed. The heating system allows each room to be heated separately and will never allow the heating to be on for more than two hours. Financing will now be concentrated on a new kitchen and associated works. 

## **Come and See** 

St Mark’s gave breakfast to the visiting Come and See team. The church showed the film “Paddington” but had a disappointing attendance. Any follow up events were unviable due to COVID restrictions. 

Charity  Giving After  the  initial  lockdown  basic  food  stuffs  continued  to  be  donated regularly to Redcar Food Bank at St Mark’s for onward delivery by Kevin  and Elizabeth 



Wass. Gift filled shoe boxes were again sent for Romanian children for Christmas. Harvest Festival gifts were donated to the Redcar Food Bank and the Womens' Refuge and gifts to the Redcar Womens' Refuge at Christmas and Easter.

## **Independent Examiner's Report to the PCC of the Ecclesiastical Parish of St. Mark, Marske in Cleveland** 

I report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31[st] December 2020 which are set out in the preceding. 

## **Responsibilities and basis of report** 

As the charity trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’). 

I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. 

## **Independent examiner's statement** 

I have completed my examination. I confirm that there are no other material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect: 

- 1 accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or 

- 2 the accounts do not accord with those records ; or 

- 3 the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination. 

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
