The success of our three Alpha courses. wlth over 140 participants, numerous salvatlons, and seven bapt15m5,15 a testament to God's grace. Alpha remains cornerstone to our operatlons as we contlnue to share the hope we've found In Christ. Over the Chrlstmas season, we had the opportunlty to share the gospel w5th well over IOQO who came to our carols and we are invited all ol them to Alpha. Deeper wa5 plloted and launched In 2023, wlth slx groups of people dlgglng Into God's word, seeklng lo grow Sn character as we look to glve ourselves Intentlonally away to God, each other and the people ol Leatherhead. The Rlsing Generatlon mSnlstrles have been a particular hlghllght. AS we dedlcate a large amount of our attentlon and re50urce5, seeklllg to ralse passlonate dlsciples of Jesus. On Sundays. we've seen Klds Church 8row to an average of 3S kid5 each week with twenty-one wonderful volunieers. The growth of our church family has been remarkable, with 157 new members officially iosning our congre83tion In 2023. This iDflux, alongside new people vi51tin8 every week frorn all areas in Leatherhead and beyond,15 mSrrored in our growth in generosity both financially and we now have over 100 serving on SuThday teams. While WÈ celebrate the numerical growth. frorn an avera8e attendance of 40 before we arrived, to now Dver 240 gathering acros5 our three services every Sunday, what truly fills our hearts with joy 15 witne$5in8 a deepening hunger for God among us. The PCC a150 has responsibllity for the Parlsh Church of St Mary and St Nlchola5, the daughter Church Centre of All Salnt5 and related properties. The Church Centre of All Salnts Is Ilcensed to Leatherhead Youth Project for use as a youth café. Dtsnatlons. grants, legacies, and other funds received have been received under terms that allow the PCC to either retain the amounts for future use or to spend them on suitable projects. Certain funds are for specific or restrlcted purpD5es and accordingly are ring- renced from other types of expendlture. On the closlng date for appllcatlons for enrolment, 5 Aprtl 2019, there were 113 names on the new Electoral Roll. At the 2023 APCM, the number of names on the Electoral Roll was reported as 116. PCC Revlew ol the Ye•r 2023 The PCC met four time5 during the year. In addltlon, the Flnance Team (formerly standlng Commltteel had met three tlmes (once by Zoom). At each meeting, the Treasurer provided update5 on movements in the budget. It Wa5 noted that while income from glvlng was growing significantly, expenditure on staff salaries had also rI5en. This was being monitored. Staff salaries and employer's pension contributions would be reviewed at the start uf 2024. The proceeds of collections taken at services over Christmas 2022 were glven away to (4)
charities helplng needy and underprivileged people in Leatherhead and it was expected that simSlar arrangements would apply to collections at Christmas 2023. Three sesslons of the Alpha Course were held at LPC during 2023 and two sesslons of Deeper bible study which followed. The PCC was updated on number5 attending these courses. The PCC broke Into small group discussion on how LPC could become Church for the whole of Leatherhead le5pecially North Leatherheadl and ideas generated were to be taken forward by the ministry team. These included the possibility of more use of All Saints Church for services and the organisation of lifts or minibus to bring people from North Leatherhead to LPC. There was dlscusslon about the contlnuation of the Autumn Fayre. While members valued It a5 z communlty event, the Fayre was no longer needed as a fundralsln9 event and there had been Incidents at the Fayre held in September 2023 whlch led to a declslon that there should be no Fayre In 2024. The curate's house, 52 Woodbrfdge Avenue, been rented on a short-term tenancy to One of the worshlp group leader5, and further rooms had been advertised for short-term tenancyi on the understanding that tenants would have to vacate when the house was quired for an incornlng curate (expected Juneljuly 20241. The Flnance Team had dlscussed the dlvlslon of Parlsh Share for the Benefice between Leatherhead and Mlckleham and had agreed that LPC was now able to pay a hlgher portlon of the charge. Thls was to be dlscussed between the two Treasurers and the Dlocese. Hlrlng charge5 for the Hall and the Church had been rev5ewed and all hlrers notlfled of the new rates. All bookings are now made v5a an onllne booking system which reqUIS payment to be made at the polnt of booking. Whlle a few booklngs have been lost for various asonS, we have gained at least one new hirer for several days a week on a yearly basls. Thls ha5 entailed some actlvltles being transferred to the Church and C*ther activlties moving to different days of the week, resultlng In a net galn of some £20k. The PCC re¢elved reports on the need for replacement of the central heatlng boller In the Hall. Options were belng explored by the Building Projects Team and would be brought to the PCC for declsion. Option5 for provlslon of car parklng on Sundays were also explored. The Finance Team approved revised flnanclal authorities, expenditure proce55 and credit card procedures. The PCC received regular reports on the proceedlngs of Leatherhead Deanery Synod. LPC has hosted a mèeting of the Oeanery Chapter and on 28th June hosted a meetlng of Gulldford Diocesan Synod. The wooden chalr5 purchased as part of the project have been augmented by upholstered chairs transferred from the Hèll and which are very nece55ary to accornmodate the larger congregations now attendlng Sunday morning services. The kltchen is in regular use for the preparation and serving of refreshment5 before and after Sunday services and for the preparation of dinners before the Alpha and Deeper sesslons The platform has been ralsed and extended to accommodate the larger number of slngers and Instrumenta115ts in the muslc group and to enable them to be seen more easlly by those further back In the congregation. The sound system and the mu51c group's amplification equipment have been augmented and Improved and an enlarged sound desk Installed. The lack of storage space has become a problem with the lower Vestry becomlng Increasingly cluttered w5th muslcal equipment, flower stands etc, and thls wlll need to be addressed before too long. The Qulnquennlal Inspertion is due to take place durlng 2024 and thls wlll undoubtedlv produce a Ilst of defects to be remedled, Across the road In the Hall (The Llghthouse}, the main need is for the replacement of the central heatlng boiler. Attempts to obtaln grant assistance towards thls have so far been unsuccessful and thi5 is now being included In the church budget requlrements. The Friends of Leètherhead Parish Church IFLPC) contlnue to organlse working partle5 on thè flrst Saturday of the month worklng alongslde the gardenwork contractor who undertake5 regular grass mowlng In the churchyard. We now have over 40 adults on our list of certificate holders. clearan 15 Iso corning through much quicker now, often within a fortnight. The Church of Enuland safeguardlng courses are well lard out, Informative and Ylell worth doing. It Is irnportant to show that we at LPC understand the Importance of safety and welfare for everyone attending tsr vi51ting our church. Some courses are mandatory for those who have positions of responslblllty wlthln our church, but the 'starter' courses are also very sultable for anyone who Is Interested. Most courses are done on-llne so can be done in the comfort of one's own htsmes. After 8 years or so l arn standing down from the role of Safeguardlng Officer. A Treasurer's Report on the year ended 31 December 2023 2023 saw a step change in Planned Givlng both in terms of more regular glvers and ncreased contributions from those already giving. This regular income allows us to plan for the year ahead wlth a degree of certaSnty. In addltlon, we recelve once-off donatlonsl contributions to specific events for whl¢h we are always grateful. Hall rental income also increased as bookings increased supported inltially by an administrator and now handled by an online booking system. Thanks are due to Meredith for her time and effort in supporting this important activity. Events such a5 Autumn Fayre, Dog Show, also added to our funds and provided 9reat occasions to welcome all of Leatherhead to our Church land many thanks are due to all the people who gave theSr tlme and efforts to make them so successful.) However, expenses also Increased wlth thls hlgher level of actlvlty, wSth hlgh energy prices and general maintenance as well as irnprovement projects such as the re- decoration of the Church Hall. 2023 saw an increase in staff members with new roles Introduced to cover operatlonal actlvltles. It is expetted this w511 brin9 a constant focu5 on securing cost-effective supplies. We have a150 updated our financial process and procedures to reflect the new organisation. Other increases in expenditure come from runnlng rnany new coursesl actlvltles and we have Increased our allocatlon ol funds for Outward Givin9. We were very grateful for contlnued flnancl•l help from the Church Revlta115Otlon Trust and the Dlocese who provlded "start-up" fund5 to 5UPPOrt the ministry In Leatherhead. Looklng ahead we will continue to recelve some funds, but we are plannlng and expect to be able to stand on our own flnanclal feetl The cost of the Children and Families Ministry is met from separate funds restricted for those purposes whlch wlll co)ntinue to provlde 5UPPOrt for thls area for several years. Although overall for 2023, expendlture exceeded Income we have now In place the organisation to support a much Increased {and Increaslng) congregatlonl Looklng ahead to 2024, there are plans for further growth In the numbers and level of gular givlng as well as Increased rental Incorne. The Flnance Team has put together a budget which has been agreed by the PCC using this expected increased income to expand artivities and to contlnue to maintaln and enhance our faclllties. As always, we are very grnteful to the Frlend5 of Leathethead Parfsh Church who provide valuable financlal support for the upkeep of the fabrlc of the church and churchyard.
