The organisation is a charitable unincorporated association.

Financial statements

The trustees submit their trustees’ report and financial statements for the year ended 31 October 2023.

Policies:

Reserve policy:

The charity currently operates with minimal reserves. The trustees are endeavouring to build up its donor base with a view to having reserves equal to 6 months operating expenditure.

Activities and Achievements

The charity is managed by 5 elected trustee members, and is staffed by 6 volunteers. The office is open from Mondays & Fridays and Saturdays from 12pm- 8pm.

The core of the charity’s work is undertaking projects which cater for the pastoral needs of the residents in Brent, Camden & Barnet and its key priorities are empowering mainstream voices and building its capacity as an institution so as to help its members and to contribute towards enhancing stronger community cohesion in the borough, which is achieved by providing the below mentioned projects.

Madrasah (Islamic school); NWICC runs madrasah classes for young Muslims between the ages of 6 and 18. The classes are conducted on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 to 12, and from 14.00 to 17.00. During weekdays, classes are conducted on Mondays and Tuesdays from 17.00 to 20.00. All madrasah teachers are CRB checked. The madrasah also holds regular workshops for teachers on good practice, child protection, and working with young people. Also, we hold regular meetings with parents and celebrate pupils’ achievements at the centre.

NWICC Muslim Women Project: Women can be a particularly effective voice as they are the heart not only of their communities but also of their families. In this case, Women in Brent Camden & Barnet have been at the forefront of establishing the NWICC and the realisation of this project has strengthened their role in the community. NWICC has increased their visibility and empowered them to become informed and active citizens within their society.

Celebrations: NWICC successfully organized two major Islamic celebrations Eidul-Fitr and EidulAdha and prayers were held at the centre. Many people broke their fast at the centre during Ramadan and this was made possible by the Muslim community in Brent, Camden & Barnet who prepared and delivered Iftar (food) to the centre. This gathering during the Ramadan gave people an opportunity to acquaintance each other and unify the community.

Community Cohesion : NWICC believes in community cohesion and encourages positive relationships between different groups and promotion of common civic values. The centre aims is to facilitate the building of relationships and partnerships between agencies to address community cohesion and conflict. It also aims to run projects to reduce inter-ethnic community conflict in highrisk areas, undertake conflict resolution/prevention work where tensions are identified in Brent, Camden & Barnet. NWICC is on course to implementing good governance practice to help achieve its full potential and expand the services it currently provides to meet the changing needs of the congregation and target audience.

Way forward: NWICC is building its organisational capacity so as to fulfil its mission and realise its vision and enable its members to take an active role in their communities and to contribute to the overall wellbeing. NWICC is taking initiatives to address the community overarching needs and it is also forming partnership with service providers that invest in community work and well-being. The board of trustees would like to thank the community for support and generosity. The centre is planning to move to a bigger place in the near future dues to local demand.

Tuition: NWICC has also been planning to run a tuition project that will aim to improve the educational achievement for young people at Key Stages 3 & 4 with emphasis on core subjects; Maths, English, Science and ICT will be taught during Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6pm-8pm. The project will be run by volunteers.

Independent Examiners Report

For the year ended 31 October 2023

I have examined the accounts on pages 6 to 7, which have been prepared on the basis of accruals.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The trustees of the charity are responsible for the preparation of accounts; we consider that the audit requirement under section 43(2) of the Charities Act 1993 does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts, without performing an audit, and to report to trustees.

Basis of independent examiner’s report

This report is in respect of an examination carried out under section 43 of the Charities Act 1993 and in accordance with the directions given by the charity commissioners under section 43(7)(b). An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity trustees and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes a review of the accounts and making such enquiries as are necessary for the purpose of this report. The procedures undertaken do not constitute an audit.

Independent examiner’s statement

Based on my examination, no matter has come to attention which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect accounting records for the year ended 31 October 2023 have not been in accordance with section 41 of the Charities Act 1993, or that the accounts presented do not accord with those records or comply with the accounting requirements of the Charities Act 1993. No matter has come to my attention in connection with my examination to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn to enable a proper understating of the accounts to be reached.
