2025 was a full and active year in the life of St Mary-the-Virgin Church.

ThefullPCChasmetregularlyduringtheyear,attheSt.Mary'sCentre,andwearegratefultoall those
who have given their time to the church in this way.

ChurchesTogetherinRyeandDistrictcontinuetoflourishandwearedelightedtoplayourpartin that.
Rev'dPaulbecametheChairofCTRDinSeptember.TheyearforCTRDstartedwithanonlineWeek of
PrayerforChristianUnityfollowedbytheWalkofWitnessonGoodFridayandjointservices throughout
theyear,heldatbothStMary'sandRyeBaptistChurch.OurMethodistsiblingsareusingtheSt Mary's
Centreregularlyforworship,buthavealsojoinedusinStMary'sfromtimetotime,andweare always
happy to welcome them, not least as they supplement the choir so beautifully.

AlthoughwedidnothaveaRoyalvisitin2025westillhadafullyearofcivicservicesincluding Mayor
Making,StGeorge'sDayandRemembranceSundaywhichwereallwellattended,andthelatter seeing
morethan500inchurch.Rev'dPaulremainstheChaplaintotheMayor.TheAnnualLifeboatService also
tookplaceatRyeHarbourwithsubstantialnumbersattending.TheChristmasServiceswerebusy with
the Crib Service recording 600 in attendance.

WearenowrunningaregularpatternoftwoservicesamonthinRyeHarbour,alternatingbetween a
serviceofHolyCommuniononthefirstSundayofthemonth,andathemedEveningPraiseserviceon the
third Sunday.
```

ChoralEvensonghasbecomearegularfixtureintheChurch'slifethisyear,takingplacequarterly, and
our choir had the honour of singing Evensong in Chichester Cathedral again this year.
```
```
OurlinkswithRyePrimarySchoolandRyeCollegehavecontinuedwithservicesinChurch(the Carol
ServiceforRyePrimaryandaYear7WelcomeServiceforRyeCollege)andbothschoolshavingvisits to
Church.Our'OpentheBook'initiativeinRyePrimaryandPlaydenPrimaryhascontinuedandis well
received by both schools.
```

During2025weheldtwelveweddingsinchurch,anincreaseonlastyear,butfewerbaptismsor funerals
in church. Most funerals now seem to happen at the crematorium.
```

Rev'dMichael'scuracycontinuedduring2025andhehasbecomeavaluedandindispensablepartof the
team.WelookforwardtohisordinationasaPriestin2026andhiscontinuedministryamongstus. We
alsolearnedduringthisyearthatwearetoreceiveanothercuratein2026,HarriEngland,andwe look
forward to her ministry too.

StMary'sis,ofcourse,partofthewiderRyeTeamMinistryandthatteamhassoughttowork more
closely together throughout the year.

Likeallchurcheswefaceourshareofchallengesanduncertaintiesbut,forallthat,StMary'sisan active
churchforworshippers,forvisitorsandaspartoftheciviclifeofthistown,andwegivethanksfor our
many blessings.

## **`Financial position`**

TheincomefortheGeneralFund(unrestrictedanddesignated),fortheyearended31-Dec-25, was
£309,868(Dec-24£274,158)andtheexpenditurewas£329,730(Dec-24£257,533)i.e. our
expenditureexceededourincomeby£19,862,£13,641afterinvestmentgains.Detailsofthiscan be
found in the Financial Statements.

Asinpreviousyears,ourmainitemofexpenditurewasthediocesanparishcontributionof£84,498. This
figurepaysforthestipend,housingandpensioncontributionsoftheclergy,Diocesan administration,
clergytrainingandnationalchurchcosts.ButthisyearChurchMaintenanceroseto£69,932 (Dec-24
£16,741). The majority of this rise was due to repairs to the boiler.

The St. Mary's Centre recorded a surplus of £6,477 in 2025 compared to a surplus of £8,285 in 2024.
```

Thetotalvalueofourcombinedinvestmentportfoliohasincreasedin2025,to£338,878from £331,906
(Dec-24). This movement is due to growth.

Our combined cash deposits have increased from £39,578 (Dec-24) to £47,657 (Dec-25).

Our charitable giving includes support for the Food Bank and Christians Against Poverty..

TheMonasteryFundisbeingmaintainedasapermanentendowmentbasedontheofficialasset valuation
asat31stDecember2005.Ingeneralterms,theterm"permanentendowment"coversany land,
investmentsorotherassetswhichtrusteescannotspendbecauseofarestrictioninthetrust's governing
document.TheMonasteryFundcurrentlyhas£756,325reflectedinfreeholdlandand buildings,
investments and cash.

ThePCCcontinuestobeverygratefulforongoingsupportfromtheFriendsofStMary'swho provide
funds to the church towards buying equipment and funding essential repairs.
