Thetrusteespresenttheirreportwiththefinancialstatementsofthecharityfortheyear ended
31stDecember2024.ThetrusteeshaveadoptedtheprovisionsofAccountingandReporting by
Charities:StatementofRecommendedPracticeapplicabletocharitiespreparingtheiraccounts in
accordancewiththeFinancialReportingStandardapplicableintheUKandRepublicofIreland(FRS 102)
(effective 1 January 2019).
Theparishisacharitywithanincomeinexcessof£100,000andassuchisrequiredtobe registered
withtheCharityCommissioninaccordancewiththeCharitiesAct2006.TheParochialChurchCouncil of
theEcclesiasticalParishofRyewithRyeHarbourwasenteredintheRegisterofCharitieson21st October
2009 (Registration number 1132236).

Objectives and aims
TheprimaryobjectiveofthePCCofRyeisthepromotionoftheGospelofourLordJesusChrist according
tothedoctrinesandpracticesoftheChurchofEngland.ThePCChastheresponsibilityof co-operating
withtheincumbentinpromotingintheecclesiasticalparishthewholemissionoftheChurch pastoral,
evangelistic, social and ecumenical.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE
Church Attendance
Therewere122peopleonthechurchelectoralrollatthelastAnnualMeetingofwhom75 regularly
attend worship.
Review of the Year
2024 was a full and active year in the life of St Mary-the-Virgin Church.
ThefullPCChasmetregularlyduringtheyear,attheSt.Mary'sCentre,andwearegratefultoall those
who have given their time to the church in this way.
ChurchesTogetherinRyeandDistrictcontinuetoflourishandwearedelightedtoplayourpartin that.
TheyearforCTRDstartedwithanonlineWeekofPrayerforChristianUnityfollowedbytheWalk of
WitnessonGoodFridayandjointservicesthroughouttheyear,heldatbothStMary'sandRye Baptist
Church.OurMethodistsiblingsareusingtheStMary'sCentreregularlyforworship,buthavealso joined
usinStMary'sfromtimetotime,andwearealwayshappytowelcomethem,notleastas they
supplement the choir so beautifully.
ThisyearsawourusualrangerofcivicservicesincludingMayorMaking,StGeorge'sDay and
RemembranceSundaywhichwereallwellattended,andthelatterseeingmorethan500inchurch. The
AnnualLifeboatServicealsotookplaceatRyeHarbourwithsubstantialnumbersattending. The
Christmas Services were busy with the Crib Service recording 600 in attendance.
WearenowrunningaregularpatternoftwoservicesamonthinRyeHarbour,alternatingbetween a
serviceofHolyCommuniononthefirstSundayofthemonth,andathemedEveningPraiseservice on
the third Sunday.
ChoralEvensonghasbecomearegularfixtureintheChurch'slifethisyear,takingplacequarterly, and
our choir had the honour of singing Evensong in Chichester Cathedral this year.
OurlinkswithRyePrimarySchoolandRyeCollegehavecontinuedwithservicesinChurch(the Carol
ServiceforRyePrimaryandaYear7WelcomeServiceforRyeCollege)andbothschoolhavingvisits to
Church.Our'OpentheBook'initiativeinRyePrimaryandPlaydenPrimaryhascontinuedandis well
received by both schools.
During2024fourbaptisms,sixweddingsorweddingblessingsandtenfuneralsormemorial services
wereheld.InAprilBishopMartinvisitedStMary'stolicenseRev'dMichaelGeorgiouasournew Team
CurateandinMaywewerehonouredtohostQueenCamillainStMary'stomeetlocalgroupsaspart of
her visit to Rye.
Theministryteamwasenhancedin2024withthelicensingtotheTeamofRev'dMichaelGeorgiou as
AssistantCurateandPermanentDeaconand,asdeacon,ithasbeenpartofRev'dMichael'sroleto help
St Mary's reach beyond its walls in relation to both our town and the other team churches.
TheparishalsotookpartintheDiocesan'GreatisThyFaithfulness'coursewhichwillleadto further
outreach events and courses..
StMary'sis,ofcourse,partofthewiderRyeTeamMinistryandthatteamhassoughttowork more
closely together throughout the year.
Likeallchurcheswefaceourshareofchallengesanduncertaintiesbut,forallthat,StMary'sisan active
churchforworshippers,forvisitorsandaspartoftheciviclifeofthistown,andwegivethanksfor our
many blessings.

FINANCIAL REVIEW
Financial position
TheincomefortheGeneralFund(unrestrictedanddesignated),fortheyearended31-Dec-24, was
£274,158(Dec-23£234,518)andtheexpenditurewas£257,533(Dec-23£251,238)i.e.our income
exceedsourexpenditureby£16,625,£23,950afterinvestmentgains.Detailsofthiscanbefoundin the
Financial Statements.
Asinpreviousyears,ourmainitemofexpenditurewasthediocesanparishcontributionof £94,980
(Dec-23£94,980).Thisfigurepaysforthestipend,housingandpensioncontributionsofthe clergy,
Diocesanadministration,clergytrainingandnationalchurchcostsandincludesasubstantial contribution
used directly to support Camber parish in the Rye Deanery.
The St. Mary's Centre recorded a surplus of £8,285 in 2024 compared to a surplus of £4,066 in 2023.
Thetotalvalueofourcombinedinvestmentportfoliohasincreasedin2024,to£331,906from £315,950
(Dec-23). This movement is due to growth.
Our combined cash deposits have increased from £37,119 (Dec-23) to £39,578 (Dec-24).
Ourcharitablegivinghasincreasedintheyearto£2,487(fromDec-23£988).Wealsocontinue to
support the Food Bank though various church activities.
TheMonasteryFundisbeingmaintainedasapermanentendowmentbasedontheofficialasset valuation
asat31stDecember2005.lngeneralterms,theterm"permanentendowment"coversany land,
investmentsorotherassetswhichtrusteescannotspendbecauseofarestrictioninthetrust's governing
document.TheMonasteryFundcurrentlyhas£752,784reflectedinfreeholdlandand buildings,
investments and cash.
ThePCCcontinuestobeverygratefulforongoingsupportfromtheFriendsofStMary'swho provide
funds to the church towards buying equipment and funding essential repairs.
Reserves policy
ItisPCCpolicytoretainenoughcapitalandinvestmentstounderwriteanyunforeseenexpensesand to
meet ongoing repair costs of the church buildings.
STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
Governing document
Thecharityiscontrolledbyitsgoverningdocument,adeedoftrustandconstitutesan unincorporated
charity.
Organisational structure
MembershipofthePCCisdeterminedundertheChurchRepresentationaIRulesandconsistsof certain
ex-officiomembers(theincumbent,curates,andlayreaderslicensedtoofficiateinthechurch), the
churchwardensandmembersoftheDeaneryandDiocesanSynodsand12membersofthechurch who
areelectedattheAnnualParochialChurchMeeting(APCM).Membersareencouragedtostand for
election to the PCC and we try to ensure a balance of skills and experience where possible.

Independent examiner's report to the trustees of PCC of Rye with Rye Harbour
IreporttothecharitytrusteesonmyexaminationoftheaccountsofPCCofRyewithRyeHarbour (the
Trust) for the year ended 31st December 2024.
Responsibilities and basis of report
AsthecharitytrusteesoftheTrustyouareresponsibleforthepreparationoftheaccountsin accordance
with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act').
IreportinrespectofmyexaminationoftheTrust'saccountscarriedoutunderSection145ofthe Act
andincarryingoutmyexaminationIhavefollowedallapplicableDirectionsgivenbythe Charity
Commission under Section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
Independent examiner's statement
Sinceyourcharity'sgrossincomeexceeded£250,000yourexaminermustbeamemberofalisted body.
IcanconfirmthatIamqualifiedtoundertaketheexaminationbecauseIamamemberof the
Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, which is one of the listed bodies.
Ihavecompletedmyexamination.Iconfirmthatnomaterialmattershavecometomyattention in
connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:
1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by Section 130 of the Act; or
2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or
3. the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

1. STATUTORY INFORMATION

2. ACCOUNTING POLICIES
Basis of preparing the financial statements
Thefinancialstatementsofthecharity,whichisapublicbenefitentityunderFRS102,have been
preparedinaccordancewiththeCharitiesSORP(FRS102)'AccountingandReportingby Charities:
StatementofRecommendedPracticeapplicabletocharitiespreparingtheiraccountsin accordance
withtheFinancialReportingStandardapplicableintheUKandRepublicofIreland(FRS 102)
(effective1January2019)',FinancialReportingStandard102'TheFinancialReporting Standard
applicableintheUKandRepublicofIreland'andtheCharitiesAct2011.Thefinancial statements
havebeenpreparedunderthehistoricalcostconvention,withtheexceptionofinvestments which
are included at market value, as modified by the revaluation of certain assets.
Income
AllincomeisrecognisedintheStatementofFinancialActivitiesoncethecharityhasentitlement to
thefunds,itisprobablethattheincomewillbereceivedandtheamountcanbe measured
reliably.
Expenditure
Liabilitiesarerecognisedasexpenditureassoonasthereisalegalorconstructive obligation
committingthecharitytothatexpenditure,itisprobablethatatransferofeconomicbenefits will
berequiredinsettlementandtheamountoftheobligationcanbemeasuredreliably. Expenditure
isaccountedforonanaccrualsbasisandhasbeenclassifiedunderheadingsthataggregate all
costrelatedtothecategory.Wherecostscannotbedirectlyattributedtoparticularheadings they
have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.

The charity is exempt from tax on its charitable activities.

Unrestrictedfundscanbeusedinaccordancewiththecharitableobjectivesatthediscretionof the
trustees.
Designated funds are ,monies set aside out of unrestricted funds for a specific future purpose.
Restrictedfundscanonlybeusedforparticularrestrictedpurposeswithintheobjectsof the
charity.Restrictionsarisewhenspecifiedbythedonororwhenfundsareraisedfor particular
restricted purposes.

churchhallbuildingiscarriedasaheritageassetathistoriccost.Extensive improvements
(includingrenovatingtheroofanddownpipes)totheStMary'sCentrewerecarriedoutin 2014.
ThesecostshavebeencapitalisedasadditionstotheTangibleFixedAssetsabove.The average
pricepaidforsemi-detachedhousesinPottingfieldRoadoverthepastyearwasusedto establish
the 'fair market value' as at 31st December 2015 for 108 Pottingfield Road.
