Report for the Year ended March 2021
The Trustees present their annual report and financial statement of the Joyner Charitable Trust, which have been prepared in accordance with our charity’s accounting policy and in compliance with the charity’s Trust Deed.
The Joyner Charitable Trust is registered with The Charity Commission, number 1132211, and is constituted under a Declaration of Trust, dated 31[st] August 2007
The Trust was established with an initial balance of £250,000, to be a gesture from the Joyner Family to make a difference to small charities who seek to support local people in need. The Trust does not actively fundraise, and until this current year, sought to continue the charitable work through the careful stewardship of the original resources. When these initial funds were exhausted in grant making, additional funds were donated in October 2018 from Worldwide Estates Ltd. This year Kenneth Joyner made an additional donation of £25,000.
The trustees are all members of the Joyner Family, with life-time appointments. All Trustees give of their time freely and receive no remuneration.
The Trustees are in regular contact, but formalise their commitments at least twice a year. These meetings are to agree broad strategies, consider grant applications made via Surrey Community Foundation, discuss any other current appeals or charitable opportunities, give financial updates and agree any additional funding requests to make to the donor. Minutes are kept.
The Surrey Community Foundation uses the name ‘Hamilton Fund’ for Joyner Charitable Trust donations, to ensure anonymity for the Joyner family.
Risk Management
Financial risks are small, other than the national economy, as the charity has no investments.
Most of the grant making is via Surrey Community Foundation who make thorough investigation of applicants and require reporting back of outcomes. Reviews and studies are provided for each grant met, thus ensuring that the Joyner Charitable Trust enables public benefit. Occasional additional grants have been made to well established organisations, though none have been awarded in this current year.
Objectives and activities for the public benefit
The Joyner Charitable Trust uses its funds to further the work of small charities that support disadvantaged or disabled children or adults; and to support heritage, cultural or educational projects. Occasionally the Trustees will agree to make donations to charities beyond this remit e.g. Disasters Emergency Committee.
