Church ol th8 Holy Spiiil in Widford. to seek God's will for tho fvtyrg as w8 emorge from the worst of the
Covid-19 pandemic. The group dtiuded that il was b"m8 to thange our visk)n prayer I'Jesus. leach us all to
love'l. and that further work was needed lo deveh)p a strategy for the future. We committed to sponding tlmè
in Lent to read a passage of Scripture. way and li8ten lo God each day.

Following the worst ol the Covid-19 pandem￿. serwces arè now tsknrYJ Fdace in thè Church b¢Jilding. and the
10am sarvice is also being live-streamed on our Facebook page. Dunng 2022. we acquired nèw tèchnology
to allow us lo live-slr&am with more qijalty. The techn(Aogy at50 albws us to project the words for liturgy,
readings and hymn$ and songs onto the screen in Church and also on the pictures wh￿h are lfve-streamed.
By the end of 2022. 811 of the Covid-19 precaLrtK)ns had been removed ex¢epl one.. Holy Communion is still
being administgred by simultaneous re￿p￿"on (the person administeiing Communion dips a wafer into the
wine and then giv&s the wafef to tho t¥Nnmunicantl. There are no plans ￿ to thange thi5 practice In order to
reintroduce the comrnon cup.
The 8asing offears rggarding Covid-19 was reflected in the large numbers of p8oplg attending our
Christmas servic85. The high point of which was the Christingle, at which ovtrr 200 people w&re present.
Althouoh the NatNity at Lalhcoats Fam did not tske placè. otAr own Carols on the Common (for the flrst
timè in three years), 8￿j thbs attracte(l around 100 peo1￿e. Our Carol Servic& w8S also well attend&d1153
adults and 29 children).
The choir has not suThJ on Sund8y mornings skKe the stsrt of the parmlemic in March 2020. It has been
deci¢Jed that il is no k)nger viabl8 a choir to ￿ad th• ￿ngIng at every 10am Sunday service, so wè have a
Igss formal, SMal￿r group of singers instead. The membership of th¢s small group of singers varies èach
week, on a rota bas15, and is drawn from a wtder poc4 of people than our former regular choir. Around 20
singars were brought togglher to lèad the singing at thè Card Serv￿.

of Carole Evans.

Churchyard.. At team ol volunleers (overseen by Ihe Churchwardan and Sexton. Anne Pepperl, maintains
the churchyard for thè benefit of the local ¢ommunty. During 2022. 8 Churchyard Carg Team was sel up, in
ordèr to111 oversee the d8y-t¢>day marwmgnt of the ¢hurchyard,121 plan for the future use of the
churchyard, and make recommendations to the PCC.131 develop a pastoral strategy relatlng the rules and
laws of thg ¢hurchyard. and for d8811ng ¥￿th COm￿alnts, and141 support each other. so th8t there is a team
opproaeh to p8stOTal and legal management of the churchyard.
Grounds.. The area of Church-ovm8d ground near the Eagle Cr¢)s3ro8ds, ￿lch wè call Ihe copse". has
been used by'Upward$" and by the congregatM)ns of South West Chèlmsford Churches. A tr68 has 8150

Mission support.. St Michael's gNes away 10% of its planned givirKJ. In 2022. wè supported the Bible
Society. Intemational Ministry to Jewish Peop￿, Overseas Missionary Felltrwship, Madè for More. 1000 HIIIS
Community in South Africa, our ￿sta( chur¢* in Piotrkow, PolarKI. Grosslinks. St Mid)ael's Junior School
Ipurchasing Bibles for Ihe children). CPAS lour Patron). Leprosy Mission, and Church at Car B￿t Sale. The
Mission Team is led by Jane Harpur. St m￿hael'S also o)Ilected H￿neY for other organisations during
2022.'111 This year's Harvest Project raised £1.720.63 for Child AKI Eastem Europe, supporb'ng disabled
children In Ukraine. (21 At the chrrsb.ngle service. we raised £296.66 lor the Children's Society.

fundraising events in 2022, induding a concert by the Rock Choir. an Artisan Crdft Fayrg. and a Christmas
Tree Festival. As w811 as raising muth-ne8d8d funds for our 8uikling Fund. thts has also had the effect of
bringing more people into the Churth bjilding. which ha5 led in lurn to rTKJre joining our Sunday
morning worshipping congregation.

The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention except for the valu81ion of
investment 8ssets. wh￿h are shown at market value. The financial slatements indudg all transactionsl
assots and liabilitigs for which the PCC is rgsponsiblè in ￿w. They do not indude the accounts of Churd)
groups that owe thgir main affiliation lo arother body. nor tlx)se that are inlomial gatherfngs of church

Endowment funds are furnls, the capital of whith musl be rn8intsined- only Incom8 arising from investment ol
the endowment may be used either as re$trKted or unrestricled funds depending upon thè purposo for which
the endowmonl wa5 establishgd.
