Flnancial Review
The voluntsry income was similar to 2020, which is to be expected given the continuing lockdown
situation. This was supplemented by tsne year's Gift Aid, although this year there have been no
legacy donations. Expenditure was reduced, principally due to less expendliure ON the fabric of
the church. We would hope to retain or increase this level of voluntary income, by thankn, ng thc>se
who continue to give generously and encouraging others to do the same.
Recelpts
Total receipt5 were £136,15012020 £190,317)
Total regular volunta ry giving f¢r 2021 was £79,012. This compares with £81,217 fc*r 2020 la 3%
decrease).
Church Actlvities for generating funds are principally the licencing and letting of parts of the
church plus donations for specifie activities. Ir) 2021 income from the church buildings total led
£27,83612020 was £45,633). 2020 was Inflated by backdated licencefees from Intouniversity and
in 2Q21 hall booking income dropped by 31% to £4,931 duè to lockdown restriction5. Sundry
donation5 totslled £12,514, this was £6,426 higher than 2020 and largely represents money
reised fer °Love Christmas..
Other Recei pts totslled £14,93012020 £57,114). The principal difference being that no legacies
were received thi5 year1£30,OCIO in 202DI. One year of Gift Aid was recovered in 2021, totallirg
£13,828 (two years were claimed in 2020 totslling £26,8WI. Further Gift Aid will be claimed in
2022.
Expendlture
Our expenditure totalled £153,342 12020 £163,612) to provide the Christian M inistry from St
MarEs Church.
Of this £80,(YJl12020 £80,0ffll was our contribirtion to the Common Fund to pravide stipends
and empluyment costs for the clergy è nd a contribution towdrds Diocesan costs and the costs of
the wider Church.
The amount which our church pays to the Common Fund is decided tw the PCC. After the
attendance of representatlves at Diocesan meetings and the receipt of Diocesa n budgets, the PCC
in June or July considers the amoLJnt it will offer to pay to the Common Fund for the next year,
referring to its own budget for the current year. The amount for 2022 is £80,OCXJ, which is le55
than the £85,200 requested by the Diocese but reflects our reduced income.
M is5ionary & Charitable Giving totalled £13,214 12020 £15,650). In 2021 the PCC agreed
formula to tithe IOYO of our Income to our Mission Partners. £7,CK)012020 £9,750) was paid to
them in 2021 and a further balancing sum of c. £3.500 will ￿ paid in 2022 ty reference to the
2021 accoLJnts.

Church repair5 and maintenance were reduced this year to £6,95812020 £11,972). Clergy &
Staffing costs plus general running costs totalled £53,171 a small saving on the 2020 total Df
£SS,99).
Reserves Pollcy
In 2021 we reviewed our Reserve5 Policy and this now provide5 that we should aim to Sustain 5
months of expenses Ib85ed on a 5year roll ing averègel and nÈver dip below I month of expenses
except in exceptional circumstances at the discretion of the PCC. On ag rèement of the PCC
Reserves can be utilised but must ai m to be replenished thereafter from all sources of income
until the threshold is agai n leached, with the a im of replenishing not later than 3 years from
utilisation. We currently seek to maintain reserves of £67,970 and to not go below £13,600.
Rlsk Management
Our procedures for managing the risks from fraud and theft are being implemented in 2022 and
will be reviewed annually.
Within the Church bui Iding, we have paid particular attention to risk5 of fire and terrorism and
escape routes. The easy work has ieen done but thi5 work 15 ongoi ng as it15 particularly difficu
to achieve mcdern recommendations in an Dld building like our church.
