Activities

Assist immigration detainees to get independent medical advice and legal advice, challenge instances of inadequate healthcare provision, monitor how the Home Office and its contractors implement policy and seek improvements to policies.

Objects: The Objects For Which The Charity Is Established Are:(a) The Advancement Of Health Or The Saving Of Lives By Preserving And Protecting The Physical And Mental Health Of Those Seeking Asylum And Foreign Nationals Held In Immigration Removal Centres And Who Live In The Community, And Their Dependants (asylum Seekers) Through:(i) Reviewing, Monitoring, Visiting, Carrying Out Research And Facilitating Asylum Seekers' Access To Medical, Health And Social Care Services From Appropriately Trained Professionals;(ii) Supporting And Compiling Medical Evidence For The Release From Detention In Immigration Removal Centres Of Vulnerable Asylum Seekers Who Have Suffered Torture, Rape, Institutional Abuse And/or Violence, Traumatic Incarceration Or Other Abuse.(b) The Relief Of Those In Need By Reason Of Youth, Age, Ill-Health, Disability, Financial Hardship Or Other Disadvantage By Providing Them With And Facilitating The Provision Of Legal Advice And Representation).(c) The Advancement Of Human Rights (as Set Out In The Universal Declaration Of Human Rights And Subsequent United Nations Conventions And Declarations) For, But Not Limited To, Asylum Seekers By All Or Any Of The Following Means:(i) Monitoring Abuses Of Human Rights;(ii) Obtaining Redress For The Victims Of Human Rights Abuse;(iii) Relieving Need Among The Victims Of Human Rights Abuse;(iv) Research Into Human Rights Issues;(v) Raising Awareness Of Human Rights Issues;(vi) Promoting Public Support For Human Rights;(vii) Promoting Respect For Human Rights Among Individuals And Corporations;(viii) International Advocacy Of Human Rights; And(ix) Eliminating Infringement Of Human Rights.(d) The Advancement Of Education Of The Public About The Position And Treatment Of Asylum Seekers By Providing Information And Encouraging Dialogue, Consultation And Negotiation. (e) The Promotion Of Such Other Purposes Being Exclusively Charitable According To The Law Of England And Wales As The Trustees May From Time To Time Determine.
