8alham Baptist Churth OBJECTIVES AND ACTivrriES, ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE Balham Baptist Church's ￿re value8: we are Led by God and seek to polnt others towards hlm,, we Invest In one another. we are a dlverse Family; we Equip each other for our frontlines. Maln actlvltlos and achlovoments Our theme for 2023 has been based around the words of Isalah Isalah 55.3. fome to me wlth your ears widg open. P8y attention and you wll Ilnd Ilfe". Thls Is a passage that finds deep resonance vAth our church's Core Values. as we seek to be a community that both knows. experiences and shares the fullness of Ilfe that God offers thls worfd. One way In whlch we sought to embed this theme wbthin the life of our church famlly Ilfe across the year, was to create an online music playllst ('Ears Wlde Open.). vh)Ich comprised tracks, hymns and songs chosen by members from right across our church family. The intention was to help us all batter connect wlth God throughout the year, and has proved a wonderful opportunity for us to1Ssten and leam from how God mlght have spoken to each of us. Overall, 2023 presented a year of continued rebulldlng and growth as a church communlty and our ongolng mlnlstry, followlng the dlfferent challenges brought about by Covld In recent, prevlous years. 2023 also represented a year of slonificant change In the Ilfe of Balham Baptist Church, particularly Sn relatlon to our leadershlp. Throughout 2023 our bulldlng was once agaln the source of much Ilfe as we hosted and partnered with a large number ofexternal groups and organlsatlorK8. alongslde thos8 mlnlstrl88 and actlvltles that formed part of the worship and ministry of the church communlty itself. As in previcwJs years we continued to work hard to blend boundarfes betrween these dlfferent aspects of Balham Baptlst Church Ilfe. bulld relationshlps behveen the dlfferent part8 of our community. and creat8 space for those vtho use our bulldlng from Monday-saturday to connect wlth those who primarily gather on a Sunday mornlng. It was encouraglng to see not only the continued grovrth In use of our spaces, parbculady the Hub and Hangout, but also the integratSon and connedlon between variou8 groups and commun5tle8 U8lng the dlff8r8nt Spaces. Whilst there vms no significant work carrled out on Ihe church buildings through 2023, we did contSnue to pursue ways to make our Spa￿$ a place of welcome for all who use them, and remain encouraged by the positive feedback that so many provide about thelr use of our d)urch. As a church vle have continued to support a number of causes through the year as part of our wider vision and purpose. As In prevlous years the charity Ella's continued to be a key partner, and focus of our 5UPPOrt. with our coffee hub donatlng 50p from every hot drlnk sold. once again raising a slgnificant amount durlng the yaar, along with the opportunity to raise awareness and support. We also contlnued to provide some financlal support to 8MS W¢JrEd Mlsslon, Baptist Union Home Misslon and Way4Ward. and Street Paslors.

8alham Baptlst Church Across the year. as part of our Sunday Gatherings. we sought to deepen our relationship with God and with one anolher. as well as be equlpped to serve God's World by joumeying through a number of series together. including those shaped around various books of the Bible {suth as Philippians and Ephesians). as V￿11 as more thematically based series, suth as 'FAITH', 'Time To Rest, and 'Confidence'. Sunday Gatherings also provlded opportunltles to mark 8nd celebrate significant moments in the lrfe of our growing church family induding dedications, and baptisms which offered cause for celebration. As one exampl8 of this we wer8 delighted to host three baptisms towards the end of 2023 which serve as a reminder of God's ongoing V￿rk in and through our community. As mentioned above 2023 has also represented 8 year of significant change for Balham Baptist Churth. particulady in the area of leadership. In June we were d81ighted to celebrat8 the Ordination of Ogemdi Ekwegh {ND) as a newly accredited Baptist minister, following his three years training with Spurgeon's College and serving as a Minister in Training with BBC. Having come to faith as part of our church o)mmunlty. followed by a later ￿llIng Into accredited ministy. It vras wlth a mlxiure of sadness but also great joy that we were able to support and bless ND. his wife Emma and their two sons, as they followed God's calling to leave Balham in September as ND took up the post of minister with Olton Baptist Church. Alongside this, 2023 also brought a farewell to our full-time minister Jim Sutton, along with his wife Sarah, and their Iwo children moved to Australia in the earfy Autumn in order to be closer to family living the￿. Again, having welcomed JIM and Sarah Into the church over a decad8 ago. and joumeying with Jim through ministry training and accreditation as a Baptist minister. it Is wlth a sense of deep thankfulness to God that we ￿rnember the legacy of his ministy and the feltowship of both famllies as part of our church story. Following the departure of both Nd and Jim as leaders (and as trustees) respectlvely, the church drew together to discuss, pray arKI dis￿rn God's leading for the appointment of a new, full-tlme minister to serve alongside Steve and wider staff and leadership team. Following this season of discemment as a church community In November we were delighted to offer the invitation for newty accredited Baptist minister Pete Herb8rt-James to serve in this post, and join our ¢hur¢h family along with his wife Jo. Pete offered a familiar face for some of the church having previously served in London with both Klng's Cross Baptist Church and London Baptists. This appOInth￿nt marks another exciting chapter in the lrfe of Balham Baptist Church and an opportunlty to give thanks to God for His continued faithfulness to us as 8 churth. As we continue With our calling and focus on bringing lrfe to all those we are exdted to enter into 2024 in which Balham Baptist Church will enter its 150th year of life. This brfngs the wonderful reminder of God's faithfulness and provislon for us as a church over many years, and the remlnder that we serve God's bigger story of restoration and renebval in His v￿r1d.
