Welcoming all, celebrating life, sharing the journey
Collect for St. Peter’s Titchfield
Father God, thank you for our church and its people. Fill us with your Holy Spirit so that our church may flourish. Help us to see you in everyone we meet and fill our lives with your praise. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Overview of 2021
St Peter’s could not have managed the provision of services during the year without the commitment of our Deacon, Revd Janet Trevithick and our retired clergy with permission to officiate: Revd Canon Peter Kelly, Revd Jane Richards and Revd Julia Foster. Along with our Reader, David Foster, they gave considerable time and energy to the planning and preparation of weekly worship as well as sharing baptism, wedding and funeral services. We have been blessed to have their spiritual leadership and teaching each week and we continue to give thanks for their steadfast ministry to us all. Thanks also to our Churchwardens who ensured the smooth running of all services as well as the week by week care and management of the church.
We are equally blessed with many lay volunteers who supported mission within and beyond our church building. Some of those activities and people are clearly visible but many are not, as is made clear further in this report: God has strengthened and encouraged us and we have kept going. The PCC is grateful for all the generous giving of time, talent and loving kindness offered to our shared commitment to serve others in the Parish.
At the beginning of 2021, St Peter’s had been in vacancy for two months. With the support of the then Archdeacon Gavin Collins, preparation had begun to advertise, interview and recruit a new Vicar. In Spring a ‘presumptive pause’ was introduced bringing to a halt the recruitment process for all Parishes in vacancy within the Diocese. It became clear that the ‘pause’ would be in place for some time which meant that maintaining the ministry and mission of St Peter’s was in all our hands.

Worship during 2021
The pandemic and its effect on usual patterns of worship continued throughout 2021. In the early part of the year there were significant restrictions on the way services could be offered. From Epiphany up to the 5[th] Sunday of Lent on 21 March 2021, services were held in the Chancel, led by one of our retired clergy and with half a dozen others present. These services were live streamed to the wider church family, and beyond, on YouTube and via our website. Palm Sunday was the first occasion in the year when anyone could be present as part of a congregation in church. Social distancing, hand sanitising and mask wearing remained in place. Singing hymns was not an option for most of the year. Track and trace rules were in place and everyone attending services had to sign in or scan a QR code.
Sunday Service (from end of March 2021)
9am Parish Eucharist (Common Worship) in person or via live streaming.
Thursday Service (from September 2021)
10am Said service of Holy Communion using an alternating pattern of liturgy. Weeks 1 & 3 Book of Common Prayer Weeks 2, 4 and 5 Common Worship
Ash Wednesday A service of Holy Communion was pre-recorded in church and available to watch online on 17[th] February marking the start of Lent. This was a joint service with Holy Trinity, Fareham and Revd Sally Davenport presided.
Mothering Sunday The service was led by Revd Jane Richards from the chancel as described above.
Palm Sunday was the first service of the year when a congregation was able to gather in church. Revd Peter Kelly presided. 50 people viewed the service online.
Good Friday and Easter Day services were held in church with congregations present in person and online. More than a 100 people viewed the two services online.
Ascension Day St Peter’s joined the congregation at St Mary’s, Warsash to share the service.
Pentecost Revd Jane led a service of Holy Communion in church and, for the first time in many months, four of our ringers were able to mark the special day with bells.
Harvest Festival Led by Revd Julia Foster with children from West Hill Park who offered prayers of intercession. Items for the food bank were donated by those attending.
All Souls Day Service Attended by many people who had been bereaved during the year and in previous years.

Remembrance Sunday Led by Revd Janet Trevithick and our Reader, Dave Foster, the service was followed by the Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial in the village.
Christingle Held on 1[st] December in church and led by Revd Janet Trevithick in aid of the Children’s Society.
Christmas Eve A Carol service was held at 4pm and repeated at 6pm to maximise the overall number able to attend. The virus was becoming a problem once more, but we felt able to go ahead with careful planning in place to keep everyone safe. David Chandler had rehearsed a pop-up choir in the weeks leading up to Christmas and they led the singing and performed other choral pieces.
Christmas Day A morning service of Holy Communion in church led by Revd Jane Richards included the blessing of the Crib and carols.
From the registers for 2021:
Baptisms - 13 Confirmations - None Weddings - 8 Funerals in church - 14 Funerals at Crematoria only - 4
Electoral Roll There were 134 people on the electoral roll at the end of 2021.
Fareham Deanery Reorganisation: the Western Wards
The Western Wards cover the Parishes of St Peter’s Titchfield, St John’s Locks Heath, St Mary’s Warsash and St Paul’s Sarisbury Green. These Parishes are part of Fareham Deanery led by our Area Dean, Revd Dr Ian Meredith.
Following the briefing from the Diocese early in the year, that insufficient funds meant stipendiary vacancies could not be filled, there began a consultation with all Deaneries: ‘how to realise effective mission and ministry envisioned by ‘Live/Pray/Serve’ when congregations and finances were so depleted?’ Covid 19 had accelerated the developing decline.
Each Deanery was asked to visualise their church in 5 years time and prepare a Deanery Plan to support their vision. Plans were submitted but received no comment. The Diocese instead proposed the establishment of Team Ministries as the way forward ie amalgamating Parishes and putting in place hierarchical leadership with a Rector supported by ordained and lay ministers. This was seen to be the best way of using stipendiary funds and building in economies of scale at local level.

Annual Report of the Parochial Church Council 2021
In Fareham, Team Ministry was discussed but not embraced by all. In the Western Wards discussion of an alternative form of collaboration began: a Covenanted Partnership that would allow the four Parishes to retain their own identity and administration but to develop a relationship between us that would support and resource outreach and mission.
At intervals during the year meetings were held in individual Parishes with the acting Archdeacon of the Meon and members of the Senior Diocesan team. Progress was slow and frustrating as we tried to understand the proposals for change, timescale and specifically recruitment to our individual churches. The PCC held many meetings during the early part of 2021 to ensure members were informed and part of the discussion. Minutes of same are available. By November, the Diocese had abandoned plans for Team Ministry in the Western Wards. Discussion with acting Archdeacon Will Hughes began again in February 2022 to explore the vision of a Covenanted Partnership.
Thanks go to all members for their commitment to this evolving issue and particularly to Edwina Day who as Chair of the PCC carried responsibility for the involvement of St Peter’s. She dedicated a great deal of time and energy to this matter for which the PCC is grateful.
Our Churchwardens and some PCC members agreed to be part of two Western Wards joint working groups as noted on page 18 of this report. At the end of 2021 we were no nearer an appointment at St Peter’s than we were at the beginning, but we had begun to form sustaining and supportive relationships with our neighbours in the Western Wards.
Finance Report
2021 was another difficult year for St Peter’s finances as it was for many other churches and charities. Regular predictable income was generally down. Overall income appeared to be higher, but it was strongly bolstered by a grant from FOSP (towards major re-pointing works, necessary to protect the Southampton Chapel from further damp), as well as two legacies.
Expenditure was roughly the same as for 2020. Most expenditure was for items over which we have little control: insurance, heating, licences, telephone etc, with little scope for savings. The largest expenditure was the Parish Share which for 2021 was set at £70,945 – just over £5,900 per month – a figure which exceeded our income for 5 months of 2021.
In order to retain a reserve for emergencies the PCC decided in May to reduce our contribution to the Diocese (Parish Share) to a level which we felt was affordable and sustainable. That arrangement has been reviewed regularly in line with our available assets and liabilities. A Stewardship campaign in Autumn was not productive, with few people increasing their donations.
Many thanks to outgoing treasurer Sandra Pereira for the early training she gave me during 2021. Also thanks to Paul Angelides without whose help and hard work on the book-keeping I would not have managed, and to Iain Windebank and John Parry who made sure gift aid claims were completed. Martin Reid – Church Treasurer

Charitable Giving
Christian Aid £517.80 was given via envelopes and transferred directly to Christian Aid in July. Thanks go to Jill Underwood who co-ordinated this collection.
St George Foundation £10 per month was transferred in support of the St George Foundation in Sierra Leone.
Children’s Society The collection from the Christingle service was paid directly to the charity.
Fairtrade Despite there being no opportunity to have regular stalls in church there were opportunities to support Fairtrade in 2021. Easter Eggs and Advent Calendars were purchased; regular, loyal customers were able to have orders delivered; some bakers bought Fairtrade ingredients. The church continued to purchase tea, coffee and biscuits, etc from Shop Equality for all opportunities when refreshments could be offered. There was a Fairtrade stall in church during Advent which was well supported by visitors raising just over £500.00. All monies raised went directly to Shop Equality. In order to give additional support to Traidcraft during a very difficult year, no Fairtrader profit was taken. A big ‘thank you’ to all who supported Fairtrade in 2021. You are helping to change lives through trade.
Karen Postle – Fairtrader
Stewardship Team
‘All things come from you, O Lord, and of your own do we give you.’ 1 Chronicles 29:11
The continuing effect of the pandemic on church attendance, especially in the early part of 2021, led to greater concerns about our financial position at St Peter’s. Planning for a Stewardship campaign in the Autumn took place with the focus on thanksgiving for all that God has given to us. Members of the church family at St Peter’s were encouraged to consider their giving and if possible increase the amount offered. There were increases in giving but also unfortunately some reductions too, due to people leaving for various reasons, or choosing to stop their regular donations. The result was that our collective giving remained at almost the same level as it had been.
At the end of the year 32 people were giving through the Parish Giving Scheme (PGS), 23 people gave through standing orders, 9 through the weekly brown envelopes and a further 26 using yellow envelopes at intervals.
Gift Aid was reclaimed on most of the giving received. As has been stated before, the best way for people to give to the church is via PGS which pays back gift aid to our Parish on a monthly basis.

Safeguarding
St Peter’s Safeguarding Policy was reviewed by the PCC and a copy submitted to the Diocese by the due date as required. Following this APCM (2022) all of St Peter’s church policies will go through their annual reviews again and updated if necessary.
All our volunteers have been assessed using the Church of England’s Safer Recruitment criteria. These checks are now carried out by our Parish DBS Administrator Caryl Larkins and I offer my thanks for all her support and assistance during the last year.
The publication of the Church of England’s ‘Past Case Review’ resulted in a number of recommendations being made. A significant number of changes to the C of E’s procedures and practice are therefore being implemented.
In 2021 St Peter’s PCC signed up to the Church of England’s Safeguarding Dashboard which is managed by your Parish Safeguarding Officer. The aim of this nationwide system is to make safeguarding administration and governance in parishes simpler and supportive. Whilst this has been a substantial piece of work in the short term it will assist your Church Wardens and PCC/Trustees in the years to come.
The Dashboard is an on-line interactive tool that covers issues such as Policies, Safeguarding, Recruitment, Training, Risk Assessment, Parish Website, Social Media, Insurance, Data Protection, Clergy Vacancy, Church Activities, Safer Environments and Hire Agreements.
The APCM is a rare opportunity to publicly thank all of our volunteers (approx 100) for offering their skills and for their ongoing dedication throughout the pandemic. Our volunteers have enabled our church to continue playing an active role in the wider community as well as supporting our own Church community – we sincerely thank you for all your time and talents .
Jane Reid - St Peter’s Parish Safeguarding Officer
The PCC has complied with the duty under section 5 of the Safeguarding and Clergy Discipline Measure 2016 (duty to have regard to House of Bishops’ guidance on safeguarding children and vulnerable adults).

Fabric Report
Bell Tower In order to improve ventilation/covid safety an extractor fan was fitted.
Southampton and Lady Mary Monument In September 2021, Skillington Workshops, a leading firm in conserving monuments in an ecclesiastical setting, supported the extensive historical, architectural, and legal conservation research in relation to the restoration of the monument. Revd Susan Allman returned to bless the proceedings on the first day.
The investigations confirmed that the Southampton Monument is supported by a vaulted Tudor passage to the north running its entire length emptying into a vaulted brick chamber – the Wriothesly Vault. Access was re-established through the original entry point near the organ. The lifted stone slab was re-instated. A suspected external entrance was confirmed to be a grave. The vault was found to be in remarkably good condition with no structural concerns. It is presumed the missing staircase leading to the chamber was removed in the 1950s. There was no risk or disturbance to the vault fabric or its contents during access. The inspection of the vault contents was visual only.
Thanks are due to Lord Montague and his family who have taken an active role in ensuring the monument and vault remain an important part of St Peter’s heritage. The works were sponsored jointly by St Peter’s Parochial Church Council and the Shakespeare Southampton Legacy Trust.
Repairs to external south and east walls Also in September work commenced to re-point the mortar on the external walls of the Southampton chapel. Beams at the corner of the south and east walls were found to be rotten so were replaced with metal beams. The project continued into November including replacement of guttering on the south wall. We are grateful to FOSP for their donation of 50% of the cost of this work
Organ An application was made to extend the faculty for the cleaning /refurbishment of the organ in due course.
Central Heating Consideration was given to options for replacement of the boiler. Eco issues were discussed. Funding in a reserve account will go towards this work.
Water Heater The water heater in the Chapter Room was repaired in December.

Choir and Music Group
Neither the choir nor music group were able to sing in church for services for most of 2021 due to the pandemic though there was an opportunity for a pop up choir to sing at our Christmas services led by David Chandler. 14 people joined in.
Singing was generally not encouraged in churches and later in the year when hymns were reintroduced, our Choir Master, Keith Miller, was unwell and had to take a leave of absence.
We were grateful for the support of David Chandler who offered to play the organ for special services during Keith’s absence.
Engagement with Families
From summer 2021, it was much easier to gather together so it was good to see mixed groups of grandparents, parents and children visiting the Welcome Café and several multi-generational pairs enjoying the hunt for hidden sheep in ‘The Sheep Trail’.
Five volunteers met after the summer holidays to share thinking about reaching out to families after the disruption of 2020 and the first half of 2021.
At the beginning of October during ‘Creationtide’, families were invited to The Wheelhouse on the beach at Hill Head to share in the beautiful world which is our home and our responsibility. On the day it rained heavily and there was a significant gale blowing! Take up was low but the group that gathered enjoyed the shared fellowship, a short act of worship and some interactive story telling led by Revd Janet. An intrepid group went beach-combing for ‘rubbish’ and there was a craft activity using recycled materials to make baskets for items brought as gifts for the Harvest Service the following day.
In November the Remembrance Sunday service saw a splendid turn out of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts as well as a young person representing the Bonfire Boys. The organisations presented their colours. It was impressive to witness the discipline, respect and maturity shown by members of these groups to whom they were a credit.
Despite renewed concerns about Covid, careful planning allowed the Christingle Service to take place in aid of the Children’s Society. There were more families present on that occasion and it was a pleasure to see them all.
The two Carol Services on Christmas Eve attracted many families. It was moving to be gathered together to hear the stories and sing carols in celebration of the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Thanks go to the willing teams involved in all these activities.

The Children’s Area
An area for families was reinstated at the back of the church in September. From the new location, families have a view of the whole church looking towards the high altar. The opportunity to be more engaged in the service is possible whilst still offering a comfortable area for young children to play. This provision is available most of the time so that visitors with children can make use of the space on any day.
Links with Schools
West Hill Park School
Over the past year, despite challenges caused by the pandemic, St Peters continued its supportive relationship with West Hill Park School. Revd Julia Foster was invited to the school on a number of occasions to lead assemblies though parents were unable to attend these events. However, parents did attend the leavers’ service in July, held on a beautiful sunny day in a marquee on the lawn. Revd Julia gave the address and enjoyed meeting families after the service. She also led the prayers at their Remembrance Day service, a solemn and well attended event. Representatives of the school attended the Harvest service at St Peters and led the prayers. It was lovely to welcome the young people and their teachers into the church and a number of congregation members took the opportunity to chat to them after the service. Unfortunately, the school was unable to hold their harvest service in church but were able to gather for their annual carol concert as planned. Again, parents were unable to attend this service but thanks to the tech team at church the service was live streamed so that parents could enjoy the traditional service with its wonderful singing and readings offered so beautifully by the children. St Peter’s looks forward to continuing this important link with the school in the future. Revd Julia Foster
Titchfield Primary School
The head teacher and all the staff at TPS have done a splendid job in providing the education needed for the young people as they have navigated the past two years. In the early part of the year, the infectious virus meant visits between church and school had to put on hold. As the year progressed the situation became a little easier and we planned a visit for the school to come to church for Harvest Thanksgiving. Unfortunately at that time a new strain of the virus was on the increase so at the eleventh hour the visit was cancelled and Harvest was celebrated at school. In December 2021, we did manage to have the children and their parents in church to enjoy their very lively nativity production. It was a joy to have them back. From our congregation at St Peter’s, Jill Underwood and Paul Angelides continue to play an important role on the board of governors of the school. Revd Janet Trevithick

Heathfield Special School
Covid restrictions meant that visits to St Peter’s could not take place for most of 2021. As Christmas approached and restrictions appeared to be lifting a little, the school contacted St Peter’s to arrange a rehearsal of their nativity play ahead of the main performance for parents. The rehearsal took place but unfortunately not the performance due to a staff member contracting Covid. We hope 2022 will offer another opportunity for the children and parents to visit. Revd Janet Trevithick
Jigsaw Pre-school
As with the schools above, Jigsaw pre-school was not able to come to church during 2021. We did maintain contact with the leaders of the school however. Revd Janet Trevithick
Team and Group Reports
St Peter’s Home Groups
Home groups, small groups, Bible study groups – they can be referred to by different names in different churches but essentially have the same function. Being part of a small group aids our spiritual, emotional and even physical well-being. Group members offer help, support and encouragement to one another enabling our lives to flourish as we endeavour to grow closer to Jesus together.
2021 saw some significant changes to our home groups, partly due to the pandemic but also because of some ill health among our members. Of our five home groups at St Peter’s, one remained constant throughout the difficult times, initially communicating by email, then Zoom and eventually meeting face to face. Two other groups combined forces and met regularly on Zoom which worked well for them. The remaining two groups joined together for a Lent course in 2021 but otherwise did not meet.
Home groups continue to be a valued part of church life at St Peter’s and we hope to expand this opportunity in 2022. Revd Janet Trevithick
St. Peter’s Bell-Ringers
This was a difficult year for us, with many changes in the way we could ring! However, we were able to ring for Sunday service, with handbells when we couldn’t ring tower bells. Although practices restarted, they had to be cancelled in November but have now thankfully resumed. The addition of an extraction system to the ringing room has enabled us to ring safely, although we still restrict numbers there. We have been fortunate that almost all of our ringers have returned and although we all found that there were unused muscles, there is now a feeling of normality to our ringing.
We have been grateful for the support of both the church and village and have appreciated the encouraging comments we have received. The sound of the bells seems to be signal of the return to normality. Lyndon Hatfield

Café Connect
A combination of the continuing restriction on gatherings during 2021, the loss of some Café Connect team members and a focus on other outreach plans within the church meant that Café Connect was not active in 2021. However, as already noted St Peter’s continued to support the St George Foundation which was a commitment put in place by the team.
The Welcome Café
The Lent course provided by the Church of England in 2021, ‘Live Lent: God’s Story, Our Story’ sowed the seeds of the Welcome Cafe. We were encouraged to look at our lives and to consider where our story and God’s story intertwined. It was illuminating to recognise the small moments that had big consequences when God intervened through others and made all the difference. We considered our collective experience of living through the pandemic with lockdowns and the various degrees of isolation, loneliness and anxiety that engendered in people. How could we at St Peter’s reach out to people, offer a space where people could meet and share their stories? This thought did not go away.
From early conversations with just a few grew a focussed discussion with many. In excess of 30 people became part of a team that provided The Welcome Café during the summer, offering generous hospitality to anyone who came through our door at church. It was a lovely experience for all involved and so it was repeated for three weeks during Advent.
Thanks go to all involved in the thoughtful reflection during Lent which gave a sure foundation for what followed. Thanks too for the many volunteers who were cheerfully 'hands on' at each Café session offering everyone a warm welcome and a friendly experience and of course thanks to all our visitors. Hopes are that this will continue and grow during 2022.
Helen Perry
Teddy Bear Praise
Teddy Bear Praise was another casualty of the covid virus and did not meet at all during the year. However it has been encouraging to hear that families are asking for the opportunity to return which suggests that it is valued and missed by our young parents.
As the church re-opened for services we were able to resume baptisms at church, with covid precautions in place. From April onwards it became possible to catch up with baptisms of children often over a year old because parents had to wait a little while longer. It was a busy and happy time.
Teddy Bear Praise is an excellent vehicle for spending time getting to know the parents and babies and building up those early relationships. We do plan to resume this group in some form as soon as we can. Revd Janet Trevithick

Pastoral Support Team
Ros Seward (Chair), Rachel Baker (Secretary), Linda Allison, Joan Angelides, Janet Webb, Barbara Le Sueur
Although Covid was still part of everyday life and restrictions were still in place in 2021 we were able to be a bit more relaxed about gathering together; all of us are fully vaccinated, tested regularly and were careful to wear masks when necessary.
Meetings The Team was able to hold meetings when necessary and we saw each other regularly in the normal course of life so communication was easily maintained.
Visits and Telephone Calls We were able to keep in touch with people we care for regularly and to remember birthdays where dates were known!
All Souls Day Service Members of the team attended The All Souls Day Service in a pastoral care capacity.
Tea Parties On Friday 30 July 2021 we were able to hold our usual Summer tea party at the Rotary Wheelhouse at Hill Head. This was well attended and much enjoyed after a year’s break. We held our Autumn Tea Party in The Parish Rooms on Friday, 12 November 2021 since the Chapter Room did not provide sufficient space. This tea party was very well attended and very much appreciated.
Very many thanks to everyone who helps with setting up, catering, serving, washing-up and chatting at the tea parties – we couldn’t do it without you.

St Peter’s Prayerline
It was a great pleasure to be able to meet as a team in the Southampton Chapel on 5[th] August, and I am delighted to say that everyone apart from Doreen White was able to attend.
Again, a great number of names and situations have been on our prayer list, with regular updates being invaluable and good record-keeping essential!
Many prayer requests have been very sad ones – this is why we are in existence – some have been for end of life (10 deaths since 6[th] March 2021). There has also been an opportunity to give much thanks and praise. Prayerline will be commemorating and celebrating its 26[th] birthday on 6[th] March. As always, I am indebted to my team for their loyalty and commitment. In November it was a pleasure to welcome Helen Blundell to the team.
Doreen White has been my number 2 since Prayerline was formed and her loss in early 2022 was an enormous personal sadness for me. She was a devoted and totally conscientious member of our team who wholly believed in, and supported, the concept of the group. I wish to acknowledge her sensitive, wholehearted and dedicated contribution to the team and to the cause. Charles Timberlake

Ladies Breakfast No breakfasts were organised in 2021 because of restrictions.
Flowers at St. Peter's
St Peter’s is very fortunate to have a team of dedicated flower arrangers who make sure that there are always fresh flowers in the church, with the exception of Advent and Lent. Their efforts provided a bright and cheering splash of colour once services in church resumed which was much appreciated. Sheila Hignell
Titchfield News
Titchfield News was published bi-monthly throughout 2021 and continues to be well-received. We had some changes to the editorial team and this now comprises:
-
Karen Postle, Editor
-
Margaret Thompson, Assistant Editor
-
Karen Rizzi, Layout, styling, creation of publication-ready magazine formats, puzzles
-
Gerry Pontefract, Distribution
-
Tony Postle, Advertising Sales (temporary post)
We also had Harry Sowerby with us as a reporter for most of the year who wrote some excellent articles.
We regularly updated our Risk Assessment for magazine distribution to take account of the third lockdown and subsequent variations in rates of Covid infection.
Magazines are now delivered to 261 subscribers which is an increase of 24 on 2020. A further 54 copies have been sold in church when it was open. Past copies of the magazine are available on the church website. Covid -19 restrictions have prevented sale of the magazine through our usual village outlets.

Karen Rizzi has moved away from the area but very kindly continues to work on our design and layout, doing a fantastic job for us.
Titchfield News continues to generate income for the church from sales and advertising with a very welcome increase in advertising revenue. Our distribution team has increased by three to17. They also do a fantastic job of recruiting new sales.
We are very grateful to Robin Guess and Chris Oakley for IT support and to Rev. Canon Peter Kelly for reading final copy before it goes to the printers. Our thanks go to Rev Janet Trevithick and the PCC for their support and advice. Karen Postle (Editor)
St Peter’s Church History Tours
Limited by the rules and guidance imposed by the pandemic, coupled with full and partial church closures in the first months of the year, regular conducted tours were not possible. However, for five weeks on Friday afternoons in July and August during the period of the summer holidays we did advertise tours. The number of visitors were few (4, 2, 0, 5, 1), but similar to the numbers before the pandemic. A pre-arranged guided tour for a party of 10 from Liphook was conducted on 12 November and was well received. For many in this party, the Southampton tomb was of special interest.
We have discussed the future of these conducted tours and intend to offer opportunities for organised parties or special events on agreed dates. We both enjoy giving the tours, and our knowledge continually grows.

Titchfield Churchyard Maintenance Group
I am pleased to report that in 2021 The Churchyard Maintenance Group met on probably nine or ten occasions and that as a result, to my eyes at least, the churchyard is looking pretty good.
As spring approaches, it will start to look even better, not least because of the endeavours of Jenny Mansbridge and Chris Chase. It was they who expended considerable effort in the planting of a large number of bulbs supplied by our Borough Council. As you walk from the church towards Frog Lane, look to your right and you will see them.
You may recollect from last year’s report that the Hampshire and IOW Amphibian and Reptile Group had put some black 50cm tiles near some of the shrubs with the hope that the warmer ground beneath them would provide a territory in which little reptiles such as slowworms would thrive. Alas, in the last twelve months none have been seen. We can only hope that in the coming twelve months these creatures discover the habitat that has been so thoughtfully provided for them and that they take up residence with us. If you see one of these tiles, please do not disturb it. Any disturbance would cause these shy creatures to hurry away.

Friends of St Peter’s (FOSP)
Friends was established to preserve and maintain the fabric of St Peter’s – (including its land, buildings, fixtures, furnishings, fabrics, archives and treasures) and to generate enthusiasm in the origins, history, architecture and development of the building. We raise funds and make grants of money to the clergy, churchwardens and Parochial Church Council (PCC).
From January –December 31[st] 2021 we were able to hold a few fund raising events, namely an online quiz event, the Jazz at the Barn, a Winter Glitz evening and Carols round the Tree. This will go towards funds committed for on-going high cost projects, such as the church heating, something we can all benefit from!
During 2021 we made a substantial grant (50%) towards the external re-pointing of part of the Church Wall. The amount granted was £16,675.72.
We look forward to our continued relationship with the PCC, the congregation members and the community to support and maintain our ancient church building.

FUND DETAILS
Unrestricted Funds relate to the General Account, which is used to pay all the everyday expenses. This fund is “unrestricted” because the money has been given to the Church on the general understanding that it will be used by the PCC for furthering the mission and ministry of the Church.
Unless otherwise specified, all the money received by the Church is first put into the General Fund.
Designated Funds are those where sums of money are set aside by the PCC for a specific purpose. There are currently three Designated Funds:
-
The Overseas Church Link Fund
-
The Youth Fund
-
The Ellis Fund is a donation from the Ellis family to be used to upgrade the heating.
Restricted Funds are monies received by the PCC for a specified purpose. There are currently four Restricted Funds:
-
The Bell Fund
-
The Flower Fund
-
The Organ Fund is to be used for restoration and maintenance of the Organ.
-
The Restoration and Development Fund is to be used for the maintenance and/or restoration of the fabric and/or the ancillary services of the Church
The PCC holds no endowment funds.
During the interregnum we have a Sequestration Fund which holds wedding and funeral fees normally paid to the diocese and is used for paying clergy who officiate at weddings and funerals. When a new vicar is appointed the contents of this fund are paid to the diocese.
LIABILITIES
Under our current accounting convention we account for both income and expenditure when it is incurred. However, as at the 31st December 2021 we have the following financial liabilities that will be paid in January 2022:
Owing to the Diocese for unpaid Parish Share £26,297
Owing to builder for repointing works £21,500
It should also be noted that we anticipate in the near future that the boiler system will have to be replaced at an estimated cost of £50,000.
