intention to retire at the end of Feb 25 prior to moving to join the Liverpool Cathedral
Team as a 'House of Duty, priest. (See also Part11, para A).
11. STRUCTURE, MANAGEMENT AND GOVERNANCE
A. General
Holy Trinity United Benefice incorporates Holy Trinity Church in Rosemary Lane and
the Church of St. Michael and All Angels, Altcar. The 6 Readers listed in Part I,
together with the 2 Churchwardens, the 3 retired Reverends, the Organist, David
Pearson, Vicky Higgins and Denise Clarke form the Ministy Team. Liz Chestnutt
also attends as Churchwarden at St. Michael's.
Holy Trinity PCC is a body corporate and operates under the Parochial Church Council
(Powers) Measure 1956. The PCC is registered with the Charity Commission, and all
elected members of the PCC are registered as Trustees. Our Charity Number is
1131722.
The method of appointment of PCC members is set out in the Church Representation
Rules. All church members are encouraged to register for the Electoral Roll and stand
for election to the PCC. Elected PCC Members serve for a three-year term and one
third are eligible to retire each year by rotation. Role descriptions are in place for each
PCC member who, on election, sign a confidents.al declaration, be subject to an
enhanced DBS check, and have a willingness to undertake safeguarding training and
raising awareness of domestic abuse training. The PCC is represented on the
governing body of Trinity St Peter's Primary School and we aim to try and hold at least
one meeting each year at the school.
The PCC operates with five committees and a number of officers and representatives
as listed below (effective following the APCM of May 2024).

HOLY TRINITY CHURCH, FORMBY- ANNUAL REPORT - 2024
Although not departing until end of Feb 25, grateful thanks must be recorded now to
both Mark and his wife, Sam, for all their haTd work, dedication and devotion to Holy
Trinity and St. Michael's over the last 13 years of their tenure. They have both
selflessly immersed themselves fully into the churches, lives and activities and the
Benefice is the richer for it. God's blessing goes to them both and their wider family
as they embark on the next chapter of their lives.
B. Risk Assessment
The PCC ensures that health and safety legislation is complied with. Procedures are
in place for recording accidents. Lists of first-aiders are kept at Rosemary Lane. All
assets are insured", cover is reviewed annually and approved by the PCC. During the
year, no accidents were recorded and there was no cause to employ any legal adviser
on behalf of the PCC.
C. Safeguardlng Our Safeguarding policy continues to be displayed in the Church
and its implementation is overseen by the PCC. The safeguarding Officer is Mr. Philip
Eastwood who is also the Children's advocate. The PCC and officers continue to
ensure that every person working with children andlor vulnerable adults has a current
DBS check. The Policy is ￿vieWed annually and was updated in Jan 2024. Steps
have taken place already to provide online Level 1 training to all relevant perJonnel to
renew their qualifications.
If ever there was a time to bring Safeguarding to the fore to all officiators it was Aug
2024 following the unbelievable child murders and massacres in Southport. This tragic
event affected everyone and for Mark and his team in particular- as timing was just
before several summer social events at the church involving minors - it was a Mind-
searching task to critically review all the risk assessments made and the in-pla
health and safety precautions to decide whether or not it was sensible and safe to
continue with the Summer programme, in particular the 'Good News Holiday Club,
week which was scheduled to start within days. All events went ahead as planned and
were completed safely. HT held special prayers for anyone and everyone in the
aftermath of thi8 horror, a prO￿dUre strongly supported by Bishop John.
D. Health & Safety Following a comprehensive H&S review last year, there are no
issues to report in 2024. Clarification was obtained from the church renovation
architect as to certified fire exits throughout the various buildings and appropriate new
signage has been procured for where it was needed.
E. Serlous Incidents NTR.
111. OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
The Parochial Church Council (Powers) Measure 1956 states that the PCC 'is to
cooperate with the minister in promoting in the parish the whole mission of the Church,
pastoral, evangelistic, social, and ecumenical,. INhen planning activities for the year,
the PCC gives consideration to the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit
and, in particular, the specific guidance to charits.es concemed with the advancement
of religion.
Our vision is that we may be living proof of Jesus Christ and lead others to believe in
Him, offering worship and a welcome with God's love as central in the heart of Foimby.
We are a church wanting to draw out a living faith in people of all ages, working as
partners to this aim with the other churches in Formby. Our objectives below are

HOLY TRINITY CHURCIL FORMBY- ANNUAL REPORT. 2024
testament to our successful efforts to date to draw more people into our growing
Church,
Fit for Mission
Ffm . Subsequent to last yeaf s report which explained that our
Deanery was in the preparatory phase of implementing the then Bishop Paul's Ffm
objectives, events have progressed and Bishop John has picked up the baton. By
mid-2024, six deaneries in 2'cohorts' had completed the°Engage° phase during which
all the participating churches had been encouraged to thoroughly explore the Ffm
concept, in general, and objectives in particular. In July, via the leadership of the
Reverend Canon David Banbury (Ffm Engagement Manager), Bishop John called
upon the remaining 7 Deaneries in Cohort 3 to enter into the 'Engage' phase. This
step now involved HT, as part of Sefton North, and between July and Oct 25, Mark
has strongly encouraged the Ministry Team, the PCC and all churchgoers to meet the
challenge and explore new ways of moulding a wider, even more welcoming church
that we have already in an effort to reach out to even more of the community. In Oct
25, the PCC will be required to decide, along with other churches in the Deanery,
whether or not to move on to the next stage of the journey towards being part of
much larger, all-encompassing Parish. During Nov 24, where able, PCC members
attended Ffm workshops, hosted by Rev. Banbury, who explained the complete
concept again. objectives, targets and purpose to ensure full understanding.
Leadin
our Church into Growth
L CIG . Both HT and St. Michael's and All Angels
had started their involvement in LYCIG activities in the Autumn of 2023 with Vicky Sime
heading the first 'Joinf pcc teach-in session "Creating a Prayerful Culture of Growth..
In 2024, five more sessions were held involving the Ministry Team also: "Implementing
an effective Strategy.; "Practicing Fruifful Evangelism.; "Develop, Engage, Worship.;
"Becoming an Inviting and Welcoming Church"; and, 'Future Plans.. In all these
sessions, Mark and Julie drew out ideas from everyone as to how we, in a United
Benefi￿, could encourage new blood into the church to see what it is all about. Julie,
the Curate, made several large diagrammatic wall posters displaying objectives, ideas
and achievements and she then put these around the church for all to see and consider
and also to learn what had been achieved already. Several related events and
activities took pla￿ throughout the year whith are highlighted in the relevant sections
below.
The Bible Readin
Challen
In Jul 24, Bishop John set all Parishes a 'Summer
Bible Reading, challenge.. to read the whole book over the summer period. Mark very
enthusiastically accepted the challenge and decided to cover 7 key messages from
the Bible over a 7-week period from 21 Jul to 1 Sep through the medium of holding
'sIngle-servi￿ Sunday celebrations. Together, Mark and Julie covered a new topic
each week linking transparently from one message to the next. Each section was
dissected and discussed in the Service thereby involving as many of the congregation
as possible. Vicky Sime prodU￿d large portiaits of each message theme and
displayed these around the church walls for all to see and ponder throughout the
summer. The challenge was achieved brilliantly and it also triggered much to
contemplate.
A survey was conducted after Ihis single-service programme to determine how popular
this single-ser4ice strategy was within all families and age groups. With nearly 100
responses, there was much enthusiasm for and a sense of mornentum with having
full church with lively singing. It induced a true sense of belonging. Clearly, there were

HOLY TRINITY CHURCFL FORMBY- ANNUAL REPORT- 2024
cons also so Mark decided to trial another single service period, vice the 3 in the
normal routine, over Christmas starting on the 1st Sunday in Advent and continuing
until 5 Jan 25. The fiTSt service was preceded on 171h Nov with the Toy Servi￿,
traditionally a Single-servi￿ Sunday anyway. Further views would be gleaned after
this experience to lend a pointer to future service programming.
Not associated with the Challenge itself but within the single-service theme, HT
continued its usual hosting role by holding Easter, Harvest Festival and Remembrance
united ServI￿S (and the Toy Service mentioned above) all supported and attended by
the churches, Uniformed groups.
Bronze Eco Church award. HT gained its Bronze award in Mar 2020 and the Curate,
Julie, has been forging ahead with her cohorts in the Scouts. Guides and the Pizza
Eaters group with new ideas (the latter covered later). But, bee-friendly plants are now
established throughout the grounds as is a ￿lId garden, area to the rear of the church.
About a dozen bird boxes have been sited around the grounds and peat-free compost
is always used when required. And, a compost bin is in full use.

Trust. The 2023 report highlighted the considerable charity
work and support conducted by Laura Neilson - a former HT reader, now ordained -
for the Trust for the Christian Centre Church in Dodoma and the re-build health centre
in Nduli. Mark also flew out to theatre last year to Send support. sin￿ then, marvellous
progress has been made and continues apace. In Aug 24, the area Govemmentfinally
connected electricity to the Nduli Health Centre encouraging more people to move into
the area. In Sep, the Ebenezer dispensary opened also thanks to the support of many
local volunteers. A road to the Centre is also being laid. Our support will continue.
Bereavement and START Courses. John Paton, a member of the Ministry team,
hosted and chaired a 7-week Bereavement Courseldiscussion at his home starting in
Aug. The location provided a more personal environment. Between Aug and Dec,
John had seen 20 people, not all churchgoers, with another 3 interested but later
declining, proving Bereavement to be a much-needed but nevertheless emotional
subject. The Curate and Vicky Sime began a 6-week group discussion START course
on 1 Dec aimed at answering questions for some about life and the Christian Faith.
Other Activities.
Sweet Frida
's l The 'Loft' Gatherin
For the Ladies, Sam Stsnford again organised
a series of bi-monthly gatherings from Mar-Dec to which guest speakers were invited
to present topics ranging from gardening, song & music to Bees and a Canape Master
course. The aim, as ever, was to encourage the local community IN as well as offering
a chance to chat in safe and sociable surroundings. For the Men, Mark continued with
his 'Loft' gatherings, a weekly-breakfast social meeting to discuss anything and
everything including ways of growing HT in the town.
'Be Still, Pra
er Course I 'Chosen° Film Sessions. Two 'weekly' events started in
June: a 'Be Still, prayer course and the showing a "The Chosen" film. These
programmes were open events and were well attended continuing until Oct and Nov
respectively.

Wilh the aim of reaching out in different ways to the local
community, St. Michael's and Atl Angels held a Summer Fayre on 13 Jul followed a
week later on 20 Jul by HT holding an Open Day. Fun & game stalls were set up for
the youngsters with plenty of interesting craft- making challenges for the children to
lend their hand to and, tables advertising ts multitude of activities carried out by the

churches, such as the Fell Walking Club, Mothers Union, Prayer Group were set up in
the church for visitors to view and mingle and. hopefvlly, be encouraged to join. At the
Open day, the Scouts and Guides provided an ex￿lIent bbq lunch which people
enjoyed outside in good weather.
Burn's and Trafal

hts. Two dinners were held in the Parish Hall organised by
the Vicar and Sam: Bum's Night on 26 Jan - with Piper - and Trafalgar Night on 18
Oct. The organisers did all the arranging and most of the cooking supported by able
volunteers and both occasions were extremely enjoyable, unifying and extremely well
attended. These events demonstrated the superb hannony in the Benefice and the
willingness to help out.
Coffee Mornin

s. Every Monday, HT hosts a coffee morning in the foyer
open to all and it is something that many people look for4vard to for comfort, warmth
and friendship, which is heartening. Also. Maggie Flodman continues her very popular
'sing-alongslcuppa & chat with proceeds going to Macmillan Can￿r Charity.

B. Pastoral Care and Service to our Community
Below are reports on some of the activities thmugh which we 8X8rcise our mission in
the church and in our local community.
Bible Stud Grou
Pizza Eaters Pizza Eaters has met each month apart from August during 2024.
We have 15 active members, ranging in age from 10 to 16. During our meetings, we
discuss a topic relevant to the Church's liturgical year, eg. Lent. and what effect it
could have on us personally. We discuss any charitable ideas. and there was input
to eco church. A time of prayer is important to our group, bringing the problems of
the world as well as local and personal requests to God.
As there is artistic talent in the group, we were able to decorate the windows, in the
Church doors, to match the seasons. We also decorated a window at harvest time.
At a coffee moming event. we raised enough money to sponsor bNinning of several

toilets in underdeveloped countries, enhancing their hygiene security. Some of us
have taken part in some of the Services, mainly in assisting at the Holy Communion
Services on the first Sunday of the month, and also in the Wreathing Service. At
Christmas, we decorate the foyer tree, and are responsible for Christingle making.
Some of us are proficient at attending to the sound desk, for power point etc.
We have a yearly outing, to bowling and laser tag, at the Ocean Plaza, inviting
siblings to join in the fun.
And, of course. we eat pizza. And pop, and popcom. and crisps.......
Sylvia Beardsell. Vicky Higgins.
Prayar Group The Prayer group meets each Thursday at 7pm, during the summer
in the prayer room, but in colder seasons, in each otherfs homes. Our prayers are
wide spreading, from people we know who need healing to world problems. There
are 8 regular members, but is open to all.
Blble Study in the afternoon. The Bible Study group meets on alternate Tuesdays,
2pm, at Elisabeth Douglas, home. At present we are studying St Matthew's Gospel,
but we have looked at Psalms re￿ntly. There are 4 of us, but would like to grow to
a larger group. We conclude each meeting with prayer for those that we know who
need healing or comfort frorn God.
Prayer Harmony. This is a prayer guide, Provided to the Church Newsletter, each
month, to help people to direct their thoughts and prayers in 'harmony'. Mainly local
in tone, important worfd events are included as necessary.
Sylvia Be8rdsell
Blble Study on Sunday. There is a small group of mainly working people who try to
meet about 3 weekly, on Sunday evening, in each other's homes. We are studying
Colossians. Unfortunately, WOTk and family commitments have made this group
unable to meet as regularly as they would like, however they are committed to
supporting each other in prayer and friendship. Again, this group would welcome
other people to join them.
Sylvia Bea￿Sell, Vicky Sime, Vicky Higgins, Peter Killen, Sam Barnes,
Formby Manor Holy Communlon Servlce for the house bound. In association
with 4 members of St Luke's Church, we have continued to bring a servi￿ of Holy
Communion to the residents of Formby Manor, each month, the St Luke's people
providing the music accompaniment for hymns. The numbers vary but we have
seldom less than 15 communicants from the residents. We have formed many
friendships with both residents and staff, and have been very welcomed.
Sylvia Be8rds811. Ruth Woodward.
Maryland Holy Communion Service for the house bound. We have continued
the long-standing association with Maryland to bring Holy Communion each month.
The numbers are usually about 5 or 6, some long standing members of Holy Trinity
or St Michael's.
Sylvia Beanlsell, Ruth Woodward
Holy Communion to the house bound in their own homes. There are a number
of Church members who are unable to attend normal church seTVI￿S, for medical
and practical reasons, that we visit with Holy Communion each month. At present

HOLY TRINITY CHURCH, FORMBY-ANNUAL REPORT. 2024
there are around 10 people, but this vaTies as people recover or go into residential
care. This provides a regular contact with these people. ensuring that they remain
within the church community, bringing them up to date with church events.
Sylvia Beardsell, Ruth Woodward, John Paton.
Weekly on-llne Service. Each week, one of the Church Services is videoed, edited
and uploaded to You Tube, so that people unable to attend in person, are able to be
included in the worship. Each type of Servi￿, across the United Benefice, is
represented. The video comes out a week after the Service to allow time for editing,
it is not live streamed. Feedback suggests that there is a regular audience for this
servi￿.
Sylvia Beardsell
Daily reflections. Each weekday, contributors provide a short video reflection on
the lectionary reading for the morning. This is about 5-7 minutes long on average.
The contributors are members of the clergy and congregation, providing a variety of
voices and insights. Again, feedback says that these are regularly viewed by not only
the house bound but also by other people who find them a good way to stsrt the day.
They are edited and uploaded to You Tube, for viewing at any time.
Sylvia Beardsell and about a dozen others
Mornlng Prayer. Each weekday mornlng at 9 a.m. a small group meet on zoom to pray
through Morning Prayer and include prayers for parishes and anything else that is relevant.
We have done this since the beginning of Covid.

Llttle Tlddlersrroddler Group We have pleasure in submitting our report on the
Toddler Group during 2024. It is pleasing to note that we still attract a large number
of children, parents, grandparents and Ca￿rS to our Monday morning meetings. We
provided a Christmas party for 47 children which again included a visit from Father
Christmas. Once again, Caroline Collins has been providing crafts on a regular
basis and also leading our Christmas Eve Toddler Church SeNice. Our year has
taken the usual format with Easter, Harvest and Christmas being celebrated.
Thanks go to Margaret and Simon Johnson and Sue Murray our 'a￿ packer
uppers" This year, we welcomed Julie Downey, a former grandma who. along with
Sue Robertson, has provided us with much needed help. Thanks are also due again
to our band of tea ladies. Thank you, all of you. We could not manage the Group
with the numbers we attract without you.
We have been so pleased to be able to do our bit as a kind of "outreach. for young
Mums, Grandparents etc of the community who can find it quite isolating after young
children of their own.
Barbara Smith and Joyce O'connell
Mothers, Union
As usual, our year began with a Communion Serdice in January
followed by our AGM in February. We were happy to welcome three members but
sadly we lost 2 of our long-standing members, Joyce Hampson and Avril Hassall.
We had several interesting talks as well as games and crafts aftemoons. Our Coffee

HOLY TRINITY CHURCIL FORMBY- ANNUAL REPORT- 2024
Morning, Strawberry Tea and Christmas Lunch were also held. We were sorry to
lose Mark at the end of the year. We presented him with a gift and wished him and
Sam well for the future.
Joyce O'connell
Holy Trinity (4th Forniby) Scouts Another good year with membership increased
to in eX￿sS of 60 young people. I say, in excess, as the overall number is a little
fluid at the moment due to 4th Formby opening a Squirrel Drey, for youngsters aged
4-6 years, at the beginning of June, and we are still receiving enquiries. We also
have a Waiting List of 11 who are generally waiting until they reach the age
requirement, but in a small number of cases waits.ng for Spa￿ as we are prety much
full in Scouts and Cubs. We've had a slight increase in adult members, particularfy
with a change around of members of our Trustee Board. We now have 12 on the
Board. We also have a change of Group Chair in the offing, with Steve Griffiths
returning to the Scouting fold.
We had planned to hold a Group Camp in July 2024, but due to numbers of Leaders
available, w.e swapped this to a Beaver Camp, needing support from a couple of
parents. As, many of the Beavers hadn't camped before, we took them along to
Tawd Vale for just one night. Very successful, although sleep was in short supply.
Of course it rained, does it count as Scout camping if it doesn't rain? My abiding
memory of that Beaver camp will be Beavers playing 'stuck in the mud, in a big
puddle of mudl
Our Cubs had a trip to the Wing Ding Camp, a large Cub activity camp at Tawd Vale
and a District day out to the RAF Museum at Cosford.
Our Scouts have had a couple of one-night camps locally, Laurel's Wood on Old
Southport Road, exploring the delights of sleeping hammocks. Some sleep very well
in hammocks it seems, needing waking at 0930hrsl We have also 'gone back, to
cooking over fires for these 'backwoods' camps.
We also had a small number of Scouts and Leaders join in with the GemianlEnglish
Camp organised by 5th Formby. This is a long-standing event, in its 46th year, where
contingent from Formby Scouts camp with a Scout Contingent from Weilburg
Germany. The camp alternates every two years between Gemany and UK. This
year in was held at Linnet Clough in the Peak District with almost 70 Scouts and
Leaders Camping for 10 nights.
The Group's young people had also been involved in Water Fun days at Waterside
Lodge Southport, Swimming Galas, Athletics competitions, Indoor and Outdoor Skills
competition and the Beavers had a trip to the Pantomimel
We also try to encourage as many of our Yong People to attend the Church
Parades, and for Wreathing this year, 45 members of the Group came along,
including all of the cast of the nativity! We also managed a few for Mark's retirementl
The Scout Christmas Post was, with help from members of the congregation, a
success again this year, providing much needed funds for our Group. Our fund-
raising stall at the Christmas Light switch on again proved quite successful.
John Carr
Holy Trinity Guides and Brownies
Guides
We currently have 9 Guides and 5 of them have reached the age of 14 and have to
leave us, so they are busy working towards their Gold award - top award in Guides

HOLY TRINrrY CHURCH, FORMBY- ANNUAL REPORT- 2024
From July 25 we will be left with 4 Guides and desperately need some new recruits
otherwise the unit will close which is a shame as we have been going for 95 years.
We have busy working towards badges; a weekend away at Shirdley Hill with Harry
Potter theme, we have done various cooking challenges and made a
donation towards a Christmas tree for church and decorated it with a theme of White
Christmas. We enjoyed a night hike and ended up at Chippy. Also, we have had a
chat about personal safety.
We just finished out Fitness badge and Be Well Theme badge - the girls cooked a
well balanced meal for family at home and planned an exercise programme. We
were invited by the Nats"onal Trust to plant trees at Lunt nature reserve.
Lots of outdoor activites planned and a party for gold awards.
Brownies
We have done collections, zero waste and languages badges. Currently working on
the archaeology badge. We have done first aid and make change skills builders and
are currently working on lead.
We've been pumpkin picking, made bonfire cookies, made Xmas pj bags and went
for a Xmas meal. We went to Waitrose to buy food for harvest for the food bank,
made decorations for the Xmas tree festival.
We are currently working on a bear badge and have been bear hunting in Southport.
We've made split pin bears, done bear quizzes. drama and are going to build a bear.
We made light up bottles for Motherfs Day and are looking forward to being out and
about more as the weather warms up.
Brownies are also low on numbers and have 6 girls and will close if we don't get
numbers for Sept tenn which will be a shame.. '
Helen Gillon
F811 Walking Club 2024 was a challenging year for the club. We had good walks in
the following venues: Haworth, Caslleton. Clapham, Ilkley, Kendal, Hebden Bridge,
Hayfield, Tidewell and Trefriw, and enjoyed mainly good weather. Unfortunately, the
number of members on the coaches was disappointing but after increasing the
coach fare midway through the season we did manage to break even. We have a
new Committee member for 2025 who is proficient with Social Media and we are
hoping this will attract a few new members and we will have more consistency in
attendan￿. We had our Festive meal in the Jubilee Hall, this was a very good social
occasion catered by Martin. We are a friendly group and welcome new members.
Pat Guy
Parish Breakfast Two industrious teams prepared and laid on Sunday breakfasts
once per month throughout the year providing approximately 350 meals in all (not
counting team members themselves). For the New Year breakfast and for the pre-
Xmas meal in Dec, little 'extras' were added to the traditional sausages, beans and
egg, or'baGon, tomato and egg, menus such as black pudding, mushrooms, hash
browns and croissants. A huge thanks must go to Sam Stanford on my team who
will be leaving the programme at the end of Feb 25 to accompany Mark in his new
role at Liverpool Cathedral. Her advi￿ and boundless energy and enthusiasm has
been invaluable and so appreciated by everybody. Thank you to Sam. Thanks also
to the many volunteers who help with the washing and clearing up. The teams could
always benefit from new blood so, if any reader is interested in helping out - it would
be once every 2 months - then please contact either Andrew Phillips or myself via
the Church office.

HOLY TRINITY CHURCH. FORMBY- ANNUAL REPORT . 2024
The Workshop The Workshop was built to provide a safe and wann environment
for all the Holy Trinity uniformed organisations. In 2001 it was completely
refurbished. Since that tirne we have also provided an important safe and warm
environment for our village community. The Workshop is used regularly by Fomiby
U3A, Yoga groups, Pilates and Exercise Groups, Conquest Art, MS meetings, Wow
knit and natter meetings and is available to hire for parties and occasional meetings.
Our main commitment to the community is to provide a Saturday Coffee Morning
each and every Saturday during the year. This is run by eithei The Workshop Teams
or outside organisations. This has included Formby Community Club (Squirrels),
Inner Vvheel, British Legion, St Michael's Church, Macmillan and the Trefoil Guild.
We did regretfully have to close on just one Saturday due to our own staff shortages.
Revenue from all our bookings enable us to pay for every day maintenance and
upkeep. We have also been able to transfer funds to the PCC.
We are ext￿MelY grateful to our loyal, happy band of volunteers and regular
customers without whose support we would not be able to continue our work in
church and the community.
We would welcome with open arms anyone who would like to join The Workshop
Team.

Parish Hall The Parish Hall has had another successful year during 2024. The
Hall is a real asset and is now used practically constantly throughout the week by a
wide range of different groups and is truly a part of the local community of Formby as
well as the church. Karate, Formby Choral Society, Formby artists, British Legion,
Scottish dancing, several line dancing groups and fitness classes are among some
of the regular weekly bookings together with the popular monthly markets and many
one-off bookings for parties or social events.
As usual the Hall has been the centre of the church's social activities and outreach.
Monday momings see Mums and Toddlers meet and the monthly Parish Breakfasts
are as popular as ever. During 2024 it has also been lovely to continue to welcome
'Sweet Fridays,, the regular ladies evening hosted by Sam. A number of other church
social events including the Bums Night supper have also been hosted in the hall.
Throughout 2024 we have continued to maintain and refurbish the hall so as to keep
the overall fabric of the building, which is now well over 100 years old, in good order.
Historically our largest challenge has always been the aging heating system which
was extremely inefficient and very expensive to run. The new heating system was
fitted in late 2023 and we are already seeing savings in the heating bills for the hall
as the new boiler is much more effective, efficient and reliable. Ongoing updates to
the lighting system moving over to LED throughout the hall has also seen substantial
savings in terms of our electricity usage as well.
In summary, during 2024 the Parish Hall continued to be a well-used and a valued
asset for both community and church use and we are sure that the building will
continue to be at the ￿ntre of Formby and church life during 2025. Future plans for
the coming year include an upgrade to the electrics including the emergency lighting
and the potential purchase of some new seating.

HOLY TRtNITY CHURCH, FORMBY-ANNUAL REPORT- 2024
Good News Holida
Club 2024
Following a break for the last few years Holiday Club again successfully ran in
August 2024. Numbers of children attending were disappointing compared with
previous years but we had a core of 10 - 15 children who attended each day. Lots of
fun and games were enjoyed as well as range of art and craft activities based on the
theme of Space and a parallel Biblical theme following the story of the disciple Peter.
It was also lovely to see a range of church members from different serrfices working
together as volunteers during the week. A huge thank you goes out to the team for
their help and support.
Now relaunched it would be good if Holiday club could become the usual annual
children's outreach it was pre-covid.

CHURCHWARDENS. REPORT INCLUDING FABRIC
The Church Wardens have had a busy year with no major issues to report,
A Deputy Warden was appointed in De￿rnber 24. This has eased the pressure on
the Wardens. A great help.
Thank you to all who have supported us throughout the year with help in very many
ways. We would not be able to achieve all that's required without their willing help,
and we appreciate this support.
There have been no major repairs necessary to the church fabric. General
Maintenan￿ has been carried out throughout the year. The 5-year electrical
inspection requirement for Ecclesiastical Insuran￿ was completed and certificated in
February 2024. Tree pruning on the roadside of Rosemary Lane was carried out in
December 2024.
All in all, a good year.

FINANCIAL REVIEW
The accounts for 2024 and the report of the Independent Examiner are set out in the
enclosed Annex.
VI I. VICAR'S REPORT In 2024, encouraged by the Diocese. Holy Trinity and St
Michael and All Angels joined the national Leading your Church into Growth {LyCiG)
programme with the agreement of both PCC'S. This shaped the programme for the
year as we played:
God of Mission
Who alone brings growlh to your Church,
Send your Holy Spirit to give Vision to our planning,
Wisdom to our actions.
Joy to our worship
And power to our witness.
Help our church to grow in numbers,
In spiritual commitment to you,
And in Servi￿ to our local community,
Through Jesus Christ our Lord.

HOLY TRINITY CHURCH, FORMBY- ANNUAL REPORT- 2024
As well as using the prayer weekly in our liturgical life we gifted over 200 mugs to
congregation members at Easter with the encouragement to pray the prayer daily
(this was financed by the Deanery Mission Fund) It was heartening to see this
embedded in the life of our congregations.
The PCCS met jointly throughout the year as we sought to develop a culture of
invitation and work through the LYCIG material. This prompted two very successful
welcome events, a welcome day at Holy Trinity and a Summer Fayre at St Michael
and All Angels
In addition we responded to the Bishop's Bible Reading Challenge with summer
series that took us through the Bible's plotline from Genesis to Revelation; the
creativity of the ministry team came through to the fore, and the feedback was very
positive in the subsequent survey.
Other memorable highlights from the year included:
The Burn's Night supper.
Lent Course
Easter Cantata at St Michael and All Angels with choir augmented with Holy
Trinity members.
Be Still Prayer Course
50th Anniversary Good News Holiday Bible Club at Holy Trinity- whilst clearly
affected bv the events in Southport it was great to see the club back after
Covid, and the children that came enjoyed them selves.
The Trafalgar Night Supper.
During the year our ministry team was augmented by two newly retired mlnisters,
Paul and Jan who joined David in having permission to officiate, and it's been great
to see the different gifts that they have brought to the benefice. l addition it was
thrilling to leam that Julie would stay in the benefice as Associate Priest as she
completed her curacy. Of course, this has been timely as l annoUn￿d my retirement
and move to the Cathedral but it means that the ministy team is in a healthy position
to lead both churches through the interregnum.
As always, my thanks go to all those who work behind the s￿neS to make both
churches such great places to belong, where increasingly everyone is Invited,
included and important.

## **Notes to the Financial Statements**

## **1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES**

The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention with items recognised at cost or transaction value, and with the Statement of Recommended Practice: Accounting and Reporting by Charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS102) issued on 16th July 2014, and with the Charities Act 2011 and the Church Accounting Regulations 2006.

**Recognition of income**

These are included in the Statement of Financial Activities (SoFA) when: The charity becomes entitled to the resources; it is more likely than not that the trustees will receive the resources; and the monetary value can be measured with sufficient reliability.

**Offsetting**

There has been no offsetting of assets and liabilities, or income and expenses, unless required or permitted by the FRS 102 SORP or FRS 102.

**Grants and donations**

Grants and donations are only included in the SoFA when the general income recognition criteria are met (5.10 to 5.12 FRS102 SORP).

**Legacies** Legacies are included in the SOFA when receipt is probable, that is, when there has been grant of probate, the executors have established that there are sufficient assets in the estate and any conditions attached to the legacy are either within the control of the charity or have been met.

**Tax reclaims on donations and gifts**

Gift Aid receivable is included in income when there is a valid declaration from the donor. Any Gift Aid amount recovered on a donation is considered to be part of that gift and is treated as an addition to the same fund as the initial donation unless the donor or the terms of the appeal have specified otherwise.

**Volunteer help**

The value of any voluntary help received is not included in the accounts but is described in the trustees’ annual report.

**Income from interest, royalties and dividends**

This is included in the accounts when receipt is probable and the amount receivable can be measured reliably.

**Liability recognition** Liabilities are recognised where it is more likely than not that there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to pay out resources and the amount of the obligation can be measured with reasonable certainty.

## **Creditors**

The charity has creditors which are measured at settlement amounts less any trade discounts

**Tangible fixed assets for use by charity Investments**

These are valued at cost.

Fixed asset investments are valued at initially at cost and subsequently at fair value (their market value) at the year end.

**Debtors**

Debtors are measured at the cash or other consideration expected to be received.

During the year the PCC employed one Parish Administrator on a part-time basis.

## **5(a) Payments to PCC members**

A small immaterial portion of the expenses paid to the incumbent may have related to his services as chairman of the PCC. Similarly some PCC members were reimbursed for any relevant expenses incurred during the year.

## **6. Analysis of Transfer between Funds**

There were no fund transfers in 2024.

## **6(b) Gains/losses on investment funds**

The Parish Hall and Workshop funds have been adjusted downwards as the accounting system was overstating their value due to incorrect use of the accounting computer system functions that enter Debtors, Prepayments, Creditors, Accruals and Petty Cash. Consequently the Parish Hall fund has been adjusted downwards by £5,235 and the Workshop by £1,823. These adjustments correct imbalances dating back to the introduction of the computer accounting system in 2022. The fund values in the system now tally fully with the separately prepared Parish Hall and Workshop 2024 accounts.

INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT
to the trustees of Holy Trinity Formby Parochial Church Council (PCC)
I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of PCC for the year ended 31st
December 2024 which are set out on pages 1 to 12.
Res
onsibilities and basls of re
ort
As the charity trustees of PCC you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance
with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 {°the Acf). You are satisfied that the accounts of the
charity are not required by charity law to be audited and have chosen instead to have an independent
examination.
I report in respect of my examination of the accounts. I have carried out my examination under section
145 of the 2011 Act. In carying out my examination I have followed the directions given by the Charity
Commission under section 145(5){b) of the 2011 Act.
An independent examination does not involve gathering all the evidence that would be required in an
audit and consequently does not cover all the matters that an auditor considers in giving their opinion
on the accounts. The planning and conduct of an audit goes beyond the limited assurance that an
independent examination can provide. Consequently l express no opinion as to whether the
consolidated accounts present a 'true and fair, view and my report is limited to those specific matters
set out in the independent examinerfs statement.
Inde
endent examinerfs statement
I have completed my examination. I confinn that no matters have come to my attention in connection
with the examination giving me cause to believe:
accounting records, with respect to the Charity, were not kept as required by section 130 of
the 2011 Act or
2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or
3. the accounts do not comply wth the applicable requirements conceming the form and content
of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any
requirement that the accounts give a 'true and fair view which is not a matter considered as
part of an independent examination; or
4. the accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the methods and principles of the
Statement of Recommended Practice for accounting and reporting by charities applicable to
charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard
applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102).
I confirm thal there are no other matters to which your attention should be drawn to enable a proper
understanding of the accounts to be reached.
