Report of the Trustees

ThetrusteeswhoarealsodirectorsofthecharityforthepurposesoftheCompaniesAct2006,presenttheirreport with
thefinancialstatementsof thecharityfortheyearended31December2023.Thetrusteeshaveadoptedtheprovisions of
AccountingandReportingbyCharities:StatementofRecommendedPracticeapplicabletocharitiespreparing their
accountsinaccordancewiththeFinancialReportingStandardapplicableintheUKandRepublicofIreland(FRS 102)
(effective 1 January 2019).

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

Objectives and aims

Thedirectorsshallholdthetrustfundanditsincomeupontrusttoapplythemforthefollowingobjects("The Objects")
particularly but not exclusively in Africa, namely:-
1) To advancein lifeand relievetheneedsof childrenand youngpeople(whorequireby reasonof theiryouth,poverty or
social and economic circumstances) through:
a)Theprovisionofrecreationalartisticandleisuretimeactivitiesprovidedintheinterestsofsocialwelfare,designed to
improve their conditions of life;
b)Providingsupportandactivitieswhichdeveloptheirskills,capacitiesandcapabilitiestoenablethemtoparticipate in
society as mature independent and responsible individuals;

c) Through advancing education.

2)Topromotesocialinclusionofchildrenandyoungpeopleforthepublicbenefit:bypreventingthemfrom becoming
sociallyexcluded,relievingtheneedsofthoseyoungpeoplewhoaresociallyexcludedandassistingthemtointegrate into
society.

Significant activities

Provision of Children's Arts programmes, namely,
Dance and movement programmes encompassing all forms of dance (including ballet).
Drama - including basics of film making, poetry and lyric writing classes.
Musicclasses- singingand recordingand the creationof theirownpercussionmusicalinstrumentsand instructionin how
to play.
Fabric design and printing and clay modelling workshop training.
Still life and creative painting classes and training in the use of photographic equipment.
Circus troupe technique and skills training.
Teacher training for Kenyan artists in Nairobi.

Public benefit

TheCharityTrusteesconsiderthemselvestohavecompliedwiththedutyinsection17(5)oftheCharitiesAct2011 to
have due regard to the guidance published by the Charity Commission.

ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE

Charitable activities

In March2023the firststonewas laidfor the Anno'sOne FineDay'snewArtsCentrein Kibera,Nairobi.Funded mainly
byGIZ(Germany)andsupportedbytheFrenchembassy,thisbuildingwillbecompletedbytheendof thesummer and
willbea stateof theartbuildingforthevariousartsclassestotakeplace.MeanwhiletheclasseswereheldinKAG school
for the interim.

Workshops

A teamfromourWelshpartners,SyrcasCimera,visitedMalawiinAugustwithustosetupa circusschoolanda touring
troupeinMzuzusothatAnno'sAfricaMalawicanbecomemorefinanciallyself-sufficient.Cimeraworkedintwo different
schoolsovera periodof 4 weeksandtaughtaerialskillsandstiltwalkingto thechildrenas wellas juggling,acrobatics and
slackwireandtheprofessionalaerialistsalsoheldanintensivetrainingattheemptytobaccostoreinthetownfor 4
volunteer adult gymnast enthusiasts to train as teachers.
LiaCraigtaughtcreativeartclasseswithBilton,paintingandmakingmasksandKatefromCimeraalsoshowed Bilton
howtocreatebeautifulstiltcostumeswithfabricboughtlocallyinthemarket.Sewingmachines,artmaterialsand circus
equipment had been shipped out by the charity CART earlier in the year.
TrusteeandfounderandAndrewBirkinaccompaniedtheteamandfilmedthetrainingworkshopsandthebrilliant show
case day which he later edited and posted on YouTube.
LocalschoolswereinvitedtotheperformanceinthegardenofMacondolodgeattheendoftheworkshopsinthe hope
thattheymightliketoemploytheteamtoteachpaidforclassesattheschools.Thishasnotyetmaterializedbut the
Malawianshavebeenaskedtoacoupleoffoodfestivalsasaresultoftheexposureandalsoperformedatthe local
shopping centre at Christmas with stilts and acrobats to raise money for some Christmas treats for the children.
Lia,AndrewandthecircusreturnedhomemidSeptemberandBeemovedontoNairobiforaweektomeetwith the
Kenya team to plan for the classical music programme for the next year and check on the progress of the musical.

Fundraising activities

OnMay5thagroupof12ofAnno'selderly(over70!)supportersclimbedMountSnowdon(YrWyddfa)in North
WalesforasponsoredclimbtoraisefundsforKenyaandMalawi.Theyweresupportedby30youngerclimbersfrom 12
years through to 60 and hosted  by Alice Douglas at her converted church in Capel Curig.
During the year, a generous donation was made by the Blond Trust and also from actor Daniel Craig.

FINANCIAL REVIEW

Reserves policy

The charity has no policy regarding reserves in place.

FUTURE PLANS

FrenchmusicianGhislainHervetandhisEnglish/AmericanwifePattyHannockaregoingtoNairobiinJanuary2024 to
startourplannedclassicalmusicprojectandfinalizetheproductionofthemusical.Ghislainistheprofessorofmusic at
theconservatoiredeMontpellierinSouthernFranceandPattyisanactressandsinger.Togethertheyhaverun month
long summer music stages for children in France for over fifteen years.
Wewillalsobesendingouta youngRADteacher(CiaraO'Rorke)toNairobinextsummertoteachballettothe children
and also help to update our local teacher Melvin to the next stages of the ballet programme.
InMalawithecircusteamwillreturnforanintensivecoursetogetthecircusreadyforperformingaroundthe country.
We will also start our arts project in some schools in the far North, around Livingstonia.

Fundraising for 2024

A concert is planned in London for summer 2024 along with a sale of children's art work from Malawi.

Governing document

Recruitment and appointment of new trustees

Theco-foundersofthecharityappointedtrusteesrecruitedamongstthemselves,colleagues,associatesand acquaintances
within the Artistic Field.
Theprimaryobjectivewastogarnertherequisiteamountofexpertise,bothtoinitiallysetupandrunthe organisation,
and also to allow significant future development.
Thetrusteesareenvisagedtoremaininplaceuntilsuchatimeastheynolongerwishorareunabletocontinue for
whatever reason.
In the eventof the resignationof a trustee,the Charitywill appointa new memberto the boardof trustees,again recruited
from suitable candidates within the Artistic Field.

Independent examiner's report to the trustees of Anno's Africa Limited ('the Company')

I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Company for the year ended 31 December 2023.

Responsibilities and basis of report

Asthecharity'strusteesoftheCompany(andalsoitsdirectorsforthepurposesofcompanylaw)youareresponsible for
the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 ('the 2006 Act').
HavingsatisfiedmyselfthattheaccountsoftheCompanyarenotrequiredtobeauditedunderPart16ofthe2006 Act
andareeligibleforindependentexamination,Ireportinrespectofmyexaminationofyourcharity'saccountsas carried
outunderSection145oftheCharitiesAct2011('the2011Act').IncarryingoutmyexaminationIhavefollowed the
Directions given by the Charity Commission under Section 145(5) (b) of the 2011 Act.

Independent examiner's statement

Ihavecompletedmyexamination.Iconfirmthatnomattershavecometomyattentioninconnectionwith the
examination giving me cause to believe:

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Company as required by Section 386 of the 2006 Act; or

2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or

3. the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of Section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or

4. the accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the methods and principles of the Statement of Recommended Practice for accounting and reporting by charities (applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102)).

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES

Basis of preparing the financial statements

Thefinancialstatementsofthecharitablecompany,whichisapublicbenefitentityunderFRS102,have been
preparedin accordancewiththeCharitiesSORP(FRS102)'AccountingandReportingby Charities:Statement of
RecommendedPracticeapplicableto charitiespreparingtheiraccountsin accordancewiththe Financial Reporting
StandardapplicableintheUK andRepublicofIreland(FRS102)(effective1January2019)',Financial Reporting
Standard102'TheFinancialReportingStandardapplicableintheUKandRepublicofIreland'and the
Companies Act 2006. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention.

Income

All incomeis recognisedin the Statementof FinancialActivitiesoncethe charityhas entitlementto the funds,it is
probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably.

Expenditure

Liabilitiesare recognisedas expenditureas soonas thereis a legalor constructiveobligationcommittingthe charity
tothatexpenditure,itisprobablethatatransferofeconomicbenefitswillberequiredinsettlementand the
amountof the obligationcan be measuredreliably.Expenditureis accountedfor on an accrualsbasisand has been
classifiedunderheadingsthataggregateall cost relatedto the category.Wherecostscannotbe directlyattributed to
particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.

Tangible fixed assets

Depreciation is provided at the following annual rates in order to write off each asset over its estimated useful life.
Plant and machinery- 25% on reducing balance

Taxation

The charity is exempt from corporation tax on its charitable activities.

Fund accounting

Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.
Restrictedfundscanonlybeusedforparticularrestrictedpurposeswithintheobjectsofthecharity. Restrictions
arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.
