ThetrusteeswhoarealsodirectorsofthecharityforthepurposesoftheCompaniesAct2006,presenttheirreport with
thefinancialstatementsofthecharityfortheyearended31December2020.Thetrusteeshaveadoptedtheprovisions of
AccountingandReportingbyCharities:StatementofRecommendedPracticeapplicabletocharitiespreparing their
accountsinaccordancewiththeFinancialReportingStandardapplicableintheUKandRepublicofIreland(FRS 102)
(effective 1 January 2019).

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

Objectives and aims

Thedirectorsshallholdthetrustfundanditsincomeupontrusttoapplythemforthefollowingobjects("The Objects")
particularly but not exclusively in Africa, namely:-
1) To advancein lifeand relievetheneedsof childrenand youngpeople(whorequireby reasonof theiryouth,poverty or
social and economic circumstances) through:
a)Theprovisionofrecreationalartisticandleisuretimeactivitiesprovidedintheinterestsofsocialwelfare,designed to
improve their conditions of life;
b)Providingsupportandactivitieswhichdeveloptheirskills,capacitiesandcapabilitiestoenablethemtoparticipate in
society as mature independent and responsible individuals;
c) Through advancing education.
2)Topromotesocialinclusionofchildrenandyoungpeopleforthepublicbenefit:bypreventingthemfrom becoming
sociallyexcluded,relievingtheneedsofthoseyoungpeoplewhoaresociallyexcludedandassistingthemtointegrate into
society.

Significant activities

Provision of Children's Arts programmes, namely,
Dance and movement programmes encompassing all forms of dance (including ballet).
Drama - including basics of film making, poetry and lyric writing classes.
Musicclasses- singingand recordingand the creationof theirown percussionmusicalinstrumentsand instructionin how
to play.
Fabric design and printing and clay modelling workshop training.
Still life and creative painting classes and training in the use of photographic equipment.
Circus troupe technique and skills training.
Teacher training for Kenyan artists in Nairobi.

Public benefit

TheCharityTrusteesconsiderthemselvestohavecompliedwiththedutyinsection17(5)oftheCharitiesAct2011 to
have due regard to the guidance published by the Charity Commission.

ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE Charitable activities

Workshops

DuetotheCovidepidemictherewasverylittleactivityforAnno'sAfricaduringthisyearandanyproposedvisits for
teachertrainingwerecancelled.CancelledtoowastheballetGalaplannedforJulyinNairobiandanyother social
fundraising events.
In Januarywe did manageto send a load of equipmentto Malawiin a largecontainervia the charityCART.This included
circus equipment - hoop, unicycle etc. plus many boxes of dance wear and costumes and three sewing machines.
We also includedfabric,paints,pastelsand paperfor the art classes.This was verytimelysinceafterCovid19hit, there was
nowaywecouldtransportthingstoAfricaandalthoughthecontainerwasdelayed,itdidfinallyarrivein Southern
Malawi and our team were able to collect and take it North.
However,throughdonationsfromtheBlondTrust,TheOldPossum'sCharitableTrust,theBerniFoundation and
Lloyd'scharitywingaswellasotherprivatedonors,wewereabletocontinueinbothKenyaandMalawithroughout the
year.InKenya,thepandemicmeantthatthechildrenwereinlockdownforanumberofweeks,buttheKibera children
didmanagetogatherintheartscentreanda handwashingstandwasdonatedalongwithsoapandtowelsandmasks for
the children to keep them as safe as possible.
Themainproblemthoughwasthelackoffoodthroughouttheslumsandtheverystrictlockdownwithpolice making
surepeopledidnottraveloutsidetheirareas.Wedecidedtousethemoneysentforthechildren'sscholarships(as they
werenolongerabletoattendtheirboardingschools)onclassesforthosekidswhogettothecentre.Wealsoput the
fundswehadtowardsfeedingasmanyofthefamiliesintheslumsaswecouldandwereabletohandoutbasic food
parcelstokeeppeoplegoingthroughtheworstdeprivationatthestartofthelockdown.WewereaidedbyaKenyan /
Cyprus based company who donated £15,000 worth of basic supplies directly.
InMalawiwemanagedtokeepclassesgoingalso,althoughtheschoolsdidshutdownperiodicallybutthenreopened, it
seemedratherrandomly.However,manyofthekidswereabletohaveclasseswhenevertheopportunityaroseand here
again we supplied basic food to the children and also to our team of trainers.
TheconstructionoftheartscentrebuildinginKiberawentonholdduetothepandemicbutthankstoavery generous
donationfromourTrusteeAnnaNygh,wewereabletolay a concretefloorat thecentreandalsoa roofcovering,so that
alltheclassescouldcontinueinrainorsunwiththechildrenprotectedfromtheelements.Withthehelpof another
charitybasedinHawaii,wewereablesetupascreenandcomputerwiththesoftwaretoholdweeklyzoomclassesat the
centreandvariousteachersaroundtheworldcouldoffertheirservices.WiththedonationofballetBaresfrom our
dancerfriendsinCanada,thedanceclassesinparticularwerereallywellattendedbythechildrenandMelvin,their new
teacher, has made huge progress with the students in his classes (which include some boys!).
TheotherpositivenewsthisyearwasthanourcolleaguesinPariswhohadhostedthetwoballetgirlsvisittoFrance the
Augustbeforeforsummerschoolclasses,saidthattheyareplanningtostartaFrenchFoundationcalledAnno'sArts to
helpsupporttheKenyanprogrammeinparticular.AstheBlondTrustdonationsgospecificallytosupportMalawi, this
was great news. Anno's Arts hopes to be operational by summer 2021.

Fundraising activities

InOctoberagroupoffriends,Bee,Karen,KateandDaisy,didasponsoredswimdownLakeDinasinSnowdonia and
raised over £4,000 to help keep the charity going.

FINANCIAL REVIEW Reserves policy

The charity has no policy regarding reserves in place.

FUTURE PLANS

Wehavehadtobeverycircumspectaboutfutureplansbutwillcertainlydosomefundraising,althoughitlooks unlikely
that we will be able to send a team to either Kenya or Nairobi within the next twelve months.
Forfuturefundraising,wehavebeengivensomewonderfulsignedscreenplaysandTVscriptsbyfriendsofthe charity,
and will hold an auction of these and an exhibition of the children's art work late in 2021.

STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT

Governing document

Thecharityiscontrolledbyitsgoverningdocument,adeedoftrust,andconstitutesalimitedcompany,limited by
guarantee, as defined by the Companies Act 2006.

Recruitment and appointment of new trustees

Theco-foundersofthecharityappointedtrusteesrecruitedamongstthemselves,colleagues,associatesand acquaintances
within the Artistic Field.
Theprimaryobjectivewastogarnertherequisiteamountofexpertise,bothtoinitiallysetupandrunthe organisation,
and also to allow significant future development.
Thetrusteesareenvisagedtoremaininplaceuntilsuchatimeastheynolongerwishorareunabletocontinue for
whatever reason.
Intheeventoftheresignationofatrustee,theCharitywillappointanewmembertotheboardoftrustees, again
recruited from suitable candidates within the Artistic Field.

Independent examiner's report to the trustees of Anno's Africa Limited ('the Company')

I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Company for the year ended 31 December 2020.

Responsibilities and basis of report

Asthecharity'strusteesoftheCompany(andalsoitsdirectorsforthepurposesofcompanylaw)youareresponsible for
the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 ('the 2006 Act').
HavingsatisfiedmyselfthattheaccountsoftheCompanyarenotrequiredtobeauditedunderPart16ofthe2006 Act
andareeligibleforindependentexamination,Ireportinrespectofmyexaminationofyourcharity'saccountsas carried
outundersection145oftheCharitiesAct2011('the2011Act').IncarryingoutmyexaminationIhavefollowed the
Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5) (b) of the 2011 Act.

Independent examiner's statement

Ihavecompletedmyexamination.Iconfirmthatnomattershavecometomyattentioninconnectionwith the
examination giving me cause to believe:

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Company as required by section 386 of the 2006 Act; or

2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or

3. the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or

4. the accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the methods and principles of the Statement of Recommended Practice for accounting and reporting by charities (applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102)).

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES

Basis of preparing the financial statements

Thefinancialstatementsofthecharitablecompany,whichisapublicbenefitentityunderFRS102,have been
preparedin accordancewiththeCharitiesSORP(FRS102)'Accountingand Reportingby Charities:Statement of
RecommendedPracticeapplicableto charitiespreparingtheiraccountsin accordancewiththe Financial Reporting
StandardapplicableintheUKandRepublicofIreland(FRS102)(effective1January2019)',Financial Reporting
Standard102'TheFinancialReportingStandardapplicableintheUKandRepublicofIreland'and the
Companies Act 2006. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention.

Income

All incomeis recognisedin the Statementof FinancialActivitiesoncethe charityhas entitlementto the funds,it is
probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably.

Expenditure

Liabilitiesarerecognisedasexpenditureassoonasthereisalegalorconstructiveobligationcommitting the
charitytothatexpenditure,itisprobablethatatransferofeconomicbenefitswillberequiredinsettlement and
theamountoftheobligationcanbemeasuredreliably.Expenditureisaccountedforonanaccrualsbasisand has
beenclassifiedunderheadingsthataggregateallcostrelatedtothecategory.Wherecostscannotbe directly
attributedtoparticularheadingstheyhavebeenallocatedtoactivitiesonabasisconsistentwiththeuse of
resources.

Tangible fixed assets

Depreciation is provided at the following annual rates in order to write off each asset over its estimated useful life.
Plant and machinery- 25% on reducing balance

Taxation

The charity is exempt from corporation tax on its charitable activities.

Fund accounting

Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.
Restrictedfundscanonlybeusedforparticularrestrictedpurposeswithintheobjectsofthecharity. Restrictions
arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.
Further explanation of the nature and purpose of each fund is included in the notes to the financial statements.

10. RELATED PARTY DISCLOSURES

During the year, certain Trustees donated, in aggregate, amounts totalling £6,093 (2019: £6,078) to the charity.
As in thepreviousyear,a donationof £4,000was securedfroma charitablefundlinkedto theindustryin which a
Trustee works and which that Trustee applied for on behalf of the charity.
ParticipantsinasponsoredswiminOctoberofalakeinSnowdoniaraisingover£4,000,includedthe charity's
chief executive and the wife of one of the Trustees.
