## **WOMEN’S FELLOWSHIP**

We enjoyed another good year at Fellowship. Some favourites – food and drink (tea, of course) and various excellent speakers. Crafts with Debbie and Emma, the make us all look so good!

Trevor Lee spoke about a wonderful local singer and we were reminded of our times in ‘the swinging 60’s’ – by Around the Shires’, do we really go back that far??

Our special speaker was Kate Hurt talking about her bee keeping. A wonderful display, she certainly knows her subject. We had a wonderful afternoon.

Early Christmas meal was at the Carnarvon Arms, enjoyed by all.

New members have joined us over the year. Come and join us, you will be made very welcome. We look forward to 2025 with fellowship.

As with the church there will always be many things that could be done or need to be done, but we are slowly getting there.

## **SAFEGUARDING**

Firstly, I wish to take the opportunity to thank my mum, Sandra, for her years of being the parish safeguarding officer and for the support she has given me in order to have a seamless transition in me taking over the role.

Secondly, I would like to thank Dora for her service as lead recruiter.

Safeguarding updates are being given to the PCC monthly and safeguarding briefings are being attended. These do give all Parish Safeguarding Officers a chance to discuss what’s new within the diocese or any tweaks we need to make or adhere to.

## **THE CHARITY SHOP**

The volunteers at the Charity Shop continue to provide a valuable resource to the community and generate a surplus to support St Wilfrid’s ministry. The Charity Shop now has a new landlord and we have concluded a new lease. Please support the work of the

## **BELL RINGING**

St Wilfrid's boasts 8 working bells which are well maintained, the smallest (the Treble being 22 inches in diameter through to the Tenor being 36 inches in diameter and the oldest bell number 7 being cast in 1805.

Here at St Wilfrid's we have a great history of ringing through the ages and we are always very pleased to welcome ringers from local towers and further away, we are a small friendly band and are always on the lookout for new people to come and have a go and increase our numbers so that one day the bells will ring out loud and proud every Sunday. If you would like to have a go, or just have a look round you are most welcome, just give us a ring (pun intended).

As previously mentioned although we are a small group we are proud that we have managed to ring for weddings in 2024 with our own band and a little help from local ringers from different local bands. We are very proud in how far we have come in a little time and know we will continue to grow.

## **CHURCHWARDENS’ REPORT**

This is the difficult part, there are so many people who make this church what it is, and I am very proud to be able to say that thanks to each one of you this church continues to have a reputation as a warm and welcoming place. It is obvious to all who come in for the first time the love and care that goes into keeping this church so clean and tidy so a special, thank you to all the Wednesday group.

Within the church community many continue to work on all those jobs which go unseen but are necessary to maintain our beautiful

This year the home Ed group have taken on maintaining the grounds at the hall as part of their caring for nature curriculum there's planters at the back which have been donated by the probation service and bird boxes fitted to the front of the hall.

At the time of writing this the craft and chat group are busy making new curtains for the hall from material they went out, found, and with their smiles and winning ways had donated to them free of charge from ROMO fabrics in Kirkby, so a special thank you all the craft and chat.

Brenda and all the ladies who put on events to raise money for charity and to help maintain things.

The team who do church lunches, they are all there with their words of support and encouragement, so to each one of you, thank you, and we are so sorry if we have missed anyone out.

Richard who cleans the hall, not an easy task considering the increasing footfall through the hall, and this year we have had to employ Samantha for an hour to come in on a Friday morning to help with the cleaning prior to the baby sensory club coming in.

Like the church, this year has been another positive year for the church hall with regular clubs and groups. We can still say that there really is something for all ages and there is not a day when something is not happening in the hall....please do go onto the church web site and look under the church hall to see what's on, when, and who to contact, they really are nice.

As mentioned earlier throughout the year, the hall has hosted many fundraising lunches and dinners by a very dedicated team and if you have never been to one, then do come along, they are very popular and rightly so.

Earlier this year the kitchen was given a new look with new worktops being fitted and all the walls and cupboards painted.

## **GIFT AID**

The total revenue received from HMRC in 2024 was £5,304.

_Siann Hurt / David Ball_

## **PARISH GIVING**

Our sincere thanks to all our regular givers who continue to financially support St Wilfrid’s especially during this worrying time of cost of living increases, please remember that if you need to review your regular giving, you can do so at any time. We appreciate that not everyone can commit to regular giving and we are grateful to those who donate when they can.

We have moved into the 21[st] century and now have the equipment to receive payment by debit/credit cards, if you wish to do so, please ask.

A special thank you to Malcolm Bowen who has recently undertaken a project to make payments easier by using a new card reader and developing QR codes so donations can be made using mobile phones. During 2024 this method of giving raised more than £500.

_Siann Hurt / David Ball_

## **PARISH HALL**

It’s been a privilege and at times demanding, looking after the hall, and seeing it grow in demand for birthday parties etc, but we have not been alone, we have the love and support of a whole host of friends, and this is where writing a report becomes frightening, the fear that yet again we may miss someone out.

church and parish hall, the flower arranging, all the altar linen, the teas and coffee every week, lighting, pat testing, servicing of fire extinguishers, the list is endless. As is our thanks to you all.

The lower church yard looks beautiful and hopefully will continue to do so. There's been a lot of work done around the church yard, bird and bat boxes fitted with many bushes and self-sets being cut back, these will grow again and need careful maintenance but at the moment looks reminiscent of how the church yard used to look at the time of Richard Kay.

This is where special thanks go to Malcolm for all he does with the community pay back team, making them feel valued and that their work is appreciated, they do enjoy coming here and it's a form of outreach.

The drains around the church have been power flushed repaired, lined and rerouted where necessary and are now in the best condition for many years.

Plans for the new servery at the back of church have been drawn up and submitted to the Diocesan Advisory Committee. We have had to undergo a 42 day private consultation with historic England and the Victorian society and are now in a 30 day public consultation period, very frustrating but we will get there.

Over the last year we have had some wonderful services using the new projector and screen which has taken a lot of hard work and commitment to put together.

At this point we do want to say thank you to those who go unnoticed working, behind the scenes, to David and Marilyn. Malcolm and Mandy, Chris and Sian and all the PCC, you are invaluable.

We still continue to use the IT equipment but live streaming has taken a hit since Christmas 2023, but right now it feels as though the phoenix is rising from the ashes, we are making good, very

good progress and hope to start streaming again shortly. Thank you for all those involved.

The period running up to Christmas was really busy and very enjoyable, watching all the rehearsals and actual productions from Orchard and Greenwood schools. The church was packed on one occasion, standing room only! Attendance at services and events throughout Advent and Christmas were up on last year. We must be doing something right!

Last year Chris had to take a step back from leading services for reasons of health, and Ann has decided to focus on St Thomas' and we wish them both well.

As mentioned in our report last year, the Wardens are responsible for providing a service when no one else is available. Kate has done that on a number of occasions this year and it has been really wonderful to see how we all pull together to create a service and that we can all feel part of it. We thank all of you who have been willing to be part of the services.

Going forward we have a request of each of you, without prayer this church will crumble, so please, in your prayers, pray that both St Wilfrid's and St Thomas' will grow, prosper and become everything our Lord Jesus wants them to be.

Both Brian and I would like to say that it is a privilege to be your Church Wardens. Our task is made easier by everyone at St Wilfrid's – it’s a true church family.

increased by £6,253 to £59,213 less expenditure of £2,968 leaving a balance of £56,245. The expenditure was for the installation of a new alarm system in the Parish Hall and for the installation of panic buttons and smoke detectors in the church.

## **FRIENDS OF ST WILFRID (300 CLUB)**

Well as we start a new year for the 300 Club let’s hope that numbers rise this year.

We’ve had a few members that have passed away so this year will be a big drive to enlist new members from within the congregation and people living around the church.

New initiatives will hopefully increase church attendances and provide an opportunity for new members to join the 300 Club, many thanks to all current members.

The number of members is 48

consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ' true and
fair view, and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
