| Summary of the main achievements of SBMC |
As part of God's church in South Bristol, our aim is to grow in the spiritual depth of our faith, in the difference we can make to the communities around us, and in the numbers of people who can discover and grow in the love of God in our congregations. This year there have been varfious signs of growth in our church community We have grown in spiritual depth, through regular worship and Bible study and for some, by holding on to faith through illness and other difficulties in ife. Bedminster and Knowle congregations experienced the_People's Passion_on Palm Sunday. Weekly worship continues to equip people to practise their faith in daily life, and small group discussions have taken place on prayer. SBMC supports monthy services in local care homes, where we can provide a message of hope. We have grown in our impact on the community through continuing Welcome Spaces at St Peter's and Knowle, and links with Monica Wills House in Bedminster. We now host the Citizen's Advice Centre at Knowle, and are happy to welcome the Food Club and the Repair Cafe to Bedminster following the closure of the URC in West Street, while the Food Club continues at St Peter's. We have worked with schools in Broomhill and to support Nativity and Easter trails in Knowle for families and young people. Knowle and St Peter's congregations carried out community audits this year to inform future work. |

Knowle and St Peter's congregations carried out community audits this year to inform future work. Although always respectful of the beliefs of others, we are not apologetic for wanting to share the good news of the Gospel message of forgiveness, love and hope through Jesus with those who are interested and we are happy to be welcoming new faces, in small numbers, to all of our congregations over the last year. We continue to baptise small numbers of children and adults, and to carry out funerals for much loved members of our congregation as well as people from our local communities. SBMC enjoyed a summer picnic together and meets regularly for Church Council and other meetings to discuss and make decisions about church life. Thanks go to people who have stepped down from church activities after many years of service, and to people taking on new responsibilities. "Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we can ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the chucrh and in Christ Jesus throughout all _generations, for ever and ever!"_Ephesians 3. 20-21 |

Independent Examiner’s Report to the Trustees of the
SOUTH BRISTOL METHODIST CHURCH ~~PT~~
This Report is on the Church Accounts for the year ended 31st August 2024
Respective responsibilities of Trustees and Examiner
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act) and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:
-
Examine the accounts under Section 145 of the Charities Act
-
to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission (under Section
-
145(5)(b) of the Charities Act), and
-
to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of Independent Examiner’s Report
My examination was carried out in accordance with general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair' view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
Independent Examiner’s Statement
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
-
(1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:
-
to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act;
-
to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the Charities Act have not been met;
-
(2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
