CHAIRMAN'S STATEMENT
The year ending March 2021 was one ofthe most tyng year5 for the life ofAsecondchance. With support
from Trustees , well-wshers in the diaspora and the funding partners that have supported as for years.
planned a¢tiMties were implemented smoothly and new proiects in Kenra planned and implemented as a
response to Covid 19 pandemic tha¢ has brought new dimensFon to de¥elopmenL The ¢¢)n¢ept of self-
sacrrifi¢e and contri¢ion by voluntary services in ternis of technical support and management continued to
contribute signifi¢andy to the rn￿10n of Asecondchanc& Covid19 has proved that support to the
rnarginalised families can still be achieved because it is vthat the M¢￿eY can buy is important and not liquid
tash.
With voluntsry time inclusiorn the income recorded for the year was £167.126 compared to É142.217
rnised in the in the premousty finanaal year. During this period Asecondchance largely covered operations
coxs using volunteers and support from Trustees and welkvfflshers. Project5 that facilitated women and
gids to address sanitati¢)n. hygiene and C¢vid 19 mrtigation initiatives played a central stage.
With supporc from new and old trusts and foundav¢n& we conrlnued to implement social protection and
vocational training projects and mens¢rul hmene management reaching marginalised families and young
people . particularly teenage mothers. These projects have benefited over 25.¢J)O marginalised frdmil1￿.
Covid19 has nece5sirated that all programmes and auivit*s are need new approach and this will continue
to affert implementation pac&
We are grdteful for the gr4nts we received from all the trusts. foundations and individuals who 5UPPOrted
us w fulfil our promises to marginali5ed communirtes in Kenr4 in the face of Covid 19. We are proud of
the voluntary ¢ontribution of our Trusrees towards project planninz and ¢Jesign. fundrdiSin8 and monitoring
of projects which would not have been realised v￿oUt staff on board. Their support in a55iSting partners
to develop new mtegies and approath new funding parthers is highty appreciated. For another complete
year. Asecond¢hance managed operntions ¥￿thOut hired personnel which is realty a huge contribution and
demonstration that a g*)od course can be achieved by sacrrftce. Speciai tfrAnks to FOW￿ Smith and Jones
Trust who sUPPOrted with core fundin&
Our resolution to start operation5 in Essex County was not realised as was the case for the previous year
and this has been caused by the change in circumswces that require proper SOCI￿ di5¢ancing . We hope
this will be 4¢uAlised at the appropriate um
We hope we shall continue recthng support to capwr4 nature and document the succe55 of our
approach to development in the globat south. The future of our troubled wodd belongs co the youth, let
us equip them with the necessary skills. but then - vaccination against Co¥i&19 is stlll slow in the
tommunitie5 we partner with. That is the challenge.
We look lorward to a successfvl year. free from Covi&l9.
