St Leonard's Church, Streatham.
Annual Report year end 2024
RECTOR'S REPORT
It is always a joy to settle down and re8d this annual booklet and this year is no exception.
The reports that follow say everythingyou need to know about the way in which we are living out
t)ur vision to be a communiiy of faith. hope and Love. in the heart of Streatham. ALthough strictly
speaking they should cover just up to the year end, they often spill over into the New Year 8S
good news 8nd wonderful achievements just keep coming.1 A fine example being our choir's visit
to 9outhwark Cathedral in Jenuary. They'sang beautifully, Or￿ it was a particular delight to see
one former and two existing choristers singing with the adult choir; a real tribute to the valuable
work Calum is doing with all our musicians. We said farewell to Travis Baker in June and
welcomed our new Organist Dale Dewindt in the autumn. Dale is already adding terrific value to
our flourishing music dep8rtment.
Our work with Children and Young people continues to go from strength to£trength. with
Toddler Church, Pulse and Choristers experiencing further growth this year; the benefit of having
Ela Yalcin as our Youth Worker is immeasurable. Our Freedom Club contlnues to provide a
crucial place of belonging and friendship for the seniors in our community with a programme of
events to make your head spin and it W8S 8 treatto enjoy a full roast Christm8s lunch in the h8ll
this year.
We have adopted 8 new mission partner'New Gener8tion' Burundi and celebrated both
S8feguarding and Racial Justice Sunday5. To m8rk the end of Black History month in October we
enjoyed an Afric8n and C8ribb8an feast provided by the generosity of some of our GMH sisters.
We are already looking forward to the next one!
These examples express just 8 fraction of the generosity of time, talent and resource that is
given by so many people to make St Leonard's what it is; a remarkable church, brimmingwith
life and love.
l am deeply grateful to you all and am so proud to be your Re.ctor.
I cannot let this annual report go by without paying a heartfelt tribute to Moyra Heggie who has
been 8 ferociously loyal, eff icient and generous Church Warden for the past 6 years. I have loved
every minule of working with Moyra and feel truly blessed to have had her at my side. We ivish
Moyra a well-earned rest as we release her from (some) of her duties!
With my love and prayers,

CHURCHWARDENS, REPORT
It has been anothergood yearforyour Church Wardens. Nick has been busywith lots of techy
things like training volunteers for the live stream te8m and Moyra has continued her merryway
meeting and gr88tirsg, although that conclud8s at this APCM.
The fantastic teams we work with at St Leonard's make the life of the church warden so much
easier. The sides people have been m8gnificent, coordinated by Fareed's excellent
organisational skills.and encouraging support. Thanks to all of you- Sundays, without you,
would be unthinkable.
We have kept a watchful eye over the church buildings, including our wonderful hall and outside
areas. and luckily, they haven't presented too many problems over the18St year. In p8rticular, it
is excitingto see such progress being made in the church halls and with the flat being
tr8nsformed, and we look torward to its imminent completion. The sm811 meeting room Is
wonderful 8nd well used, as is the hall, despite Spires r81inquishing on8 of theirtwo d8ys sinc8
their Lease ended. Richard's Streatham lunch club has become established on 8 Thursd8y, and
we look fofward to 8 Monday session in due course {double yum).
Constant m4nor maintenanoe has been undertaken by the stalwart Maintenance Te8m {you
knowwhoyou are) and the work on the south w811 seems to have solved the problem as the
damp patch is drying out. The organ continues to have its regular checks, but the tower clock
has been ailing- hopefully it will be functioning accurately soon.
Church Watch continued, on a Monday and Wednesday, Wlth John Brown, Rob Edmondson,
Andrew Johnson and the rest of the te8m- thank you gentlemen.
Eileen, back from m8ternity leave, has resumed holding the reins of the office, a8 well as
coordinating hall bookings. And we must thank Barbara Booth for her sterling work keeping the
off ice functioning when Eileen was away. Aiden liaises with us about the Curate's house, and
Steff continues liaising with Ruth at Lambeiri L8ndscBpes about the churchyard.
Chris Shulkes is takingover the coordination of tellers-countingand bankingcash donations-
and Keith Riggs-Long has joined the team as caretakerlverg8r, again e8sing the workload on your
wardens.
Without 81l ot the volunteers at St Leonard's, very little would get done.'8ut we cton't take your
volunt88ring for grant8d-w8 8r8 profoundly grateful.
Aswe are to ourwonderful Canon Anna. who leads us all sowell. It is a struggle, butwe do
everything in our power to ensure she takes time to undertake granny duties for Christie, as well
as having a little space for herself.
Moyr8 Heggie & Nick Turner
Church Wardens
A final thought! Collectively, we will be expressing our thanks at the APCM, but I will be eternally
grateful to Moyra for holdingthe position of Church Warden for six years (two more than
expected) and serving us so well throughout that time. Plus, she couldn't have been a better
tutor to me over the last two years how to be the perfect church warden. She WILL be sorely
missed in her role, but is due a well-deserved rest. Thank you, Moyra. X
