the parish. We have a Child Protecb'on and Vulnerable Aduhs Pdicy in place, a set of financial procedures for monttoring on
monthly basis the acttjal resutts compared lo the annual budget, and regular inspections to monitor the condfaon of the
building. In addthon, heatth & safety matters, fire risk. Insuran￿ cover and Se￿rty continue to be reviewed on an ongo¢ng
basis.

possible to worship al Lancaster Priory and to become part of the parish communty.
The PCC maintains an oveiview of worship and music and services are revIev￿d on an On9￿ng basis.
The Commission's guidance on public benafft atKI. in paitthlar, th8 suppl8m•ntary guidancé on charities for the
advancement of religion has been considered in planning the acknV￿88 for the year. In part¢cular, we promote a parish

The Church 1$ normally opon seven days a week to all who wsh to Vi5rL attend any of the mid week or Sunday ty
spend time in priv¥te prayer. Th• Church is ¥vail•b￿ for o)mmunrty group, schools and organi8ab'on8 to usa for special
serv¢ces, events and COn￿rts.

Durfng 2023 the Proory offered 4 range of yervlees ththJ the *ek and over the ye•r. Holy Communlon IBCPI, Prlory
Eucharist chdr and Young Church ICWI and Choral Evengong IBCPI on Sunday vith a Family Service held on one
Sunday aftemoon per month, Tuesday moming Eucharist {BCP), d8ity moming prayw, Epiphany. Advent and Chrtstmas
Carol Services, Midnight Ma88 and 8ervice8 on other 8peaal days in the Churc* year. In Septernber 2023 we began a wèèkly
service of Hoty Communion with prayer for healing on a Thursday at 12.30pm, this has been well received and Continues to

There were 184 names on Ihe electoral roll at 31 December 2023. The average regular weekly attendance counted during
Octo￿< wa$ 173. Throughout 2023, attendance has continued to inc￿se and continue lo see an increasing
number of people attsnding midw••k and $pwal wvi¢•8.

Pastoral Care
The viear Ic*Jelher with retired dergy, licensed lay ministers and pastoral care assistants regulady visit the sick and
housgbound members of the congregabon. Followng the estsblishmerrt of the pastoral contact scheme in 2022, we continue
to share responsibilty for ¢ommuni¢ab"on of the of our o)ngregalion and re$pon8e lo those need8 Wrth a Slightly
broader group than the dergy and mini$ty team. In 2023 we fimity re-establi$he(1 services in Care Homes. We work as a
der team ol licensed clergy, dergy With p8rmission to officaate, licansed Eay ministers and authorised lay ministers. It has
been 8 p8￿c￿lar joy to retum to and eslablish both a monthly communion service al Nazareth House and to begin to visit
residents who are nol able to attend the ¢hapel. We hope to continue to devew our pastoral ¢are, as a shared minlsty with
lay and ordained people working tOgett￿r. The PCC has agreed to support the developmenl of Anna Chaplainoy in OUT
parish and we look forward to this in 202415.
Diocesan VI￿0￿ 2026 and Parish Vision
The PCC has been ably served by Awena Carter as wsion champion for some years. we thanked her for her service as she
stepped down from this rolt and Petèr Hopkn*od took ￿ this manlle. Thi$ year the PCC engaged in it3 own discernment
process for vision for the luture. The PCC began devdoping its strategic Fdan, to ensure that th• vision disc8m•d in 2022

The year (January) began quielty y￿1h on Epiphmy Carol Servica and a servi￿ at wthith we marked Holoc8u8t Memorial
Day. The end of the morth saw the Priory host the book lau￿ for the Rt Ravd Jill Duff8 (Bishop of Lanc85ter} new book
'Lighb'ng the Beacons,. Two Youth GfOUPS also began meetsng in January- one for 9-11'J and another tor 12-18's. Thesè
groups began the year ex￿Oring issues arourld mental health and grthMng up using restYJTces from Youlhscape and Di￿9Y
Pixar.
In Febrt￿ry the dty ￿de Fadng thg Pas( Nab"onal Hgfitage Lottery Projac( of which Lancaster Priory was the financial
parent, began to roll our volunteer a $t8keholder training on Raasm and Mc•Jem Day Slavery. Several members of the Priory
congregation. volunteers and stsff attènded these training ses%ons. A small team from the Priory visited Bristol overnight and
visited key sites, including thè Cathedral. to expkjre hv4¥ the iity and it's stakeholders were responding to the legacy of
transatlantic slavery. The Priory also hosted a very successful Gin Tasling Evening. On the 26th of February. we held a quiot
vlgil in church to mark the first anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine by Russia.

team of volunteers. Throughout lent {M•rchl, the vicar h05ted several coffee moming5 and 8 chèese and wne evening. Ihgse
were not as well attended as they might have been but were a helpfvl experiment in di5ceming how to c￿ale 8P8ce for th&
Priory Community and especially new members to connect outside of worship. These eAded ￿ the most successful gvènt
al bringing together a diverse group of people

April began with Holy W••k and a se￿￿ of Stsb"on$ of the Cross using sxjr Sanctuary Guild embroideries. The vicar, R&v'd
Leah Vasey-Saunder$, preached throughout Hoty Week and we saw an increa88d attendance on the previous year. drawing
nearer lo prè-pandemic numbers. On E•sttr Day we said tsrev•*ll to wr Director of Music. Don Gilllhorpo. A $mall
presentation was made as the Priory Communty thanked Don for his contribution to the life and WOTship of L)ur parish. Mr
Jeremy Tru8love steppd into the breech to support the Priory Music Dep8thent durin9 the rec¥uitmonl process for a new
D1￿Ctor of Musio.
During May the Amnu81 Parochial MeetirvJ met and •l•cted Dave Ru88dl 48 ward8n. trxrt wè had a vacancy for a second
Churchwarden. As a resutt of this were p￿se￿ that Rebekah Mulligan and 8evetlgy Roberts were willing to take on the
Inewl roles of As$i$tsnt Churchwarden to 8UPWt Dave in his work. We thanked Pauline Fielding for hor dedication and
service #s she 18id down the role of warden. On the 6th of May, the cg)ronation of HRH Chades 111 look pla￿ in Westminster
Abbey. thi$ eoincided wth a long booked wedding at the Priory. so we vlero unable to organi8e any ￿ents in the church on
that day. We held a sp•oal Choral Evensong on the 14th May lo pray for our n&wty crowned King and hi$ family. The Vicar
represented the Priory al the Mayor Making for th• new Mayal year. On the 29th of May thè Faung th& Past project held itg
community fesb'val day with lour8 arourxl the uty and public wrfomwnce8 of dancE and MUS￿ and Poetry refiecting on
thg hi8tory and connecti¢)n8 Wrth tran￿lantiC slavery. This ontsd vAlh a VpJil at the Cap￿red Africans Memodal on the
Quayslde, by our Vlcar.

this tour. These continued throughoul th• vAnner months of Ihe y•ar and we anbcApat8 will be a lon9 t•mi activity through thts
Maritime Museum.
There were 38 Coffee Con¢erts throughout the year, the8è were •x¢•ll•nt opporbjnth'es not onty for performers but al80 10

had the Gala exhib￿On. The PCC took a day logethgr in the P￿ry Church to begin to eyplore how they might develop il as a
resource for mission and ministy in the ngx¢ 3￿50 years. We enjoyéd a fabulous final cholr Sunday wsth a BBQ (moved
5ndoors due to tht rain) to whlch we Invited The 0￿510n81 Sirrfjèrs. This intergeneratiC￿al featu￿ of our music departrrent

ThroughoLrt year we held 7 weddings and 16 Baptssm$. During Augustthe Ocawonal Singers (led by lan Paltinsonl ably led
our music so that the Priory Choir could tske 8 vdl eamed rest. We also hosteij th8 Mothers, Union 'Soul of our Shoes,
exhibition, highlighting the cause of Domests"c Violence through the shtss of women, thildren and men. This was thanks to

In S•ptember we welcomed ba¢k the Priory Choir and a nthv dirÈdor of music Dr Rebekah OkFx>ti. We continuè to enloy
having undergraduate sirgers from Lan¢aster University in the tt￿1r. These senior choral 8cholars make a wonde￿1
contributson to the mu$i¢al lrfe of the church. We 81s0 currenlly have three organ s¢trK)lars generou51y supported by the
Duchy of Lan¢a$ler BeneV￿ent Fund". tsvo 5th001-age Juni￿ scholars and one undergraduate senior s¢holar. In September
Andrew Ni(*)olson, Priory expert undertook several tours for Heritsge Week and had a sefies of ¢on¢arts to celebrate our
Palronal Festival with our usual Fesbv81 of Song. The Very Revd Peter HovMII-Jones preached for our Patronal Festival
Eucharist. September ended wrth 3 concert wsitor for the Priory - the London Film Con¢8rt Orchestra and these ware
completely booked out months in advance.

Light Up Lan¢astor always starts Novemb•r 5F*Cta￿Farfy. Remembrance Day was marked at the ¢ity memorial in the town
hall gardens, and again on Sunday. Sunday also induded a parade to the Priory Chwch 8nd a very well attended Clvic
S8rvice. We also celobraty.ng the feast of Saints and also vAth our annual Al Souls ServTh (this year an Evensong),
rememb*ring Iho8e who have died in years past. On the 28th of November the Fatyng the Past Proièd launched an exhibition
of The Three Sophia$. a direct response and con￿lIa110n vthich evofved from the research by Melinda Elder into the specifi'c
¢ompli¢ity of Lancastsr P￿ry in the Transatlanttc S￿ve Trade. This exttib￿ was ￿11 received and wll continue Into 2024.
