**Commission on public benefit)**|The objects of the charity as a choir are to advance, improve,
develop and maintain public education in and appreciation of the art
and science of choral music in all its aspects by the presentation of
public choral concerts, and for the general purposes of such
charitable bodies or for such other purposes as shall be exclusively
charitable as the Committee may from time to time decide.| |---|---| ||The choir is a mixed-voice choir of around 70 voices, covering four
main parts. The repertoire is varied, including baroque, classical and
contemporary choral works, traditional Christmas carols, show tunes
and folk songs from around the world, and new or rarely performed
works.
The choir holds 3 public concerts each year in December (the
Christmas Concert), a Spring Concert and a Summer Concert.
Rehearsals are held weekly in preparation for these concerts,
running over three terms corresponding closely to school academic
terms.
The choir also has opportunities to sing at organized and impromptu
outside events, including carol singing at various venues, and the
leading of sung worship at the Ealing Borough Remembrance Day
Service every November.
The trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity
Commission on public benefit in making decisions regarding choir

March **2012** **TAR** 4 Section D Achievements and performance ## **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year** ## **Autumn 2024** This term was marked by our move to a new venue at St Barnabas’ Church, Pitshanger Lane, Ealing. The church has a fine acoustic for choral singing and a magnificent organ, which has enhanced our performances. Attendances at our concerts this year reveal that we have attracted a new and enthusiastic audience, as well as welcoming old friends. The size of our new venue has also enabled our Music Director to involve not only vocal soloists but also a variety of instrumentalists. These were clearly much appreciated by our audience. Our Christmas concert featured sacred music by Victoria, Gabrieli, Holst and Rutter, traditional carols with enthusiastic audience participation, and some “fun” music. Accompaniment was provided by not only piano and the organ, but also a brass quintet, who contributed two pieces of their own. ## **Spring 2025** The Spring concert featured a variety of sacred music by French composers Camille Saint-Saens, Gabriel Faure, and Cecile Chaminade’s _Messe pour deux voix egales_ (infrequently performed). The highlight of the evening was a moving performance of the Saint-Saens Requiem, with soloists, and accompanied by an unusual mix of instruments comprising harp, cello, French horns, accordion and organ, which proved highly effective. Our enthusiastic audience were highly appreciative of the performance. ## **Summer 2025** For our summer concert, the Choir celebrated its fortieth anniversary from its founding in 1985. Former members were invited, and some were able to join our final rehearsal and perform a few pieces with the choir. There was a medley of music, spanning from old English folk through Baroque and up to the modern era, selected partly by the Choir from previous favourites, and including some audience participation. Our former Music Director Philip Norman conducted us in the Russian folk song “Kalinka”. One of our members collected and displayed an archive of material spanning the forty years, which was interesting and much appreciated. A large birthday cake was provided and enjoyed. The Choir is flourishing and attracting new members. Much of this is due to our inspirational Music Director Paul Ayres. March **2012** **TAR** 5 ## **Section E Financial review** The charity’s policy is to hold reserves of around £10,000 to cover both **Brief statement of the** operational costs in the event of a loss of income and also any **charity’s policy on reserves** substantial unforeseen expenditure which may occur. This year's claim should be a similar amount and will appear in next year's accounts. Note 3 SINGING LESSONS We have arranged for choir members to have individual singing lessons. We will be passing on the payment to the singing teacher. Note 4 UNRESTRICTED DESIGNATED FUNDS The Committee has voted to set aside reserves to cover the risk of reduction of loss of income in furtherance of the Choir's objects. These reserves are held in the Choir's CAF Deposit Account. ## **Independent examiner’s report to the trustees of Questors Choir** I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of Questors Choir (QC) for the year ended 31 August 2025. ## **Responsibilities and basis of report** As the charity trustees of QC you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”). I report in respect of my examination of the QC accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145 (5) (b) of the Act. ## **Independent examiner’s statement** I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect: 1. Accounting records were not kept in respect of QC as required by section 130 of the Act; or 2. The accounts do not accord with these records.
