E¥an8ellsm. and EcumenScal Artmty The new 2022 Elertoral Roll contained 122 members12021.' 1321 from 98 households. 5 beinE non-resident. 2022 has been a turbulent year, 8lob31fy and locally- The ending of C¢Nid restrictions wa5 immediatelyfollowed by the Invasiort of Ukraine. National celebrations marking the al￿en'SJubI1ee came just months before her death and a period of deep mourning acrossthe world. The uncertainties of the partdemic were replaced by uncertainties of spiralling costs. ThrotJghouL the church remained a constant. a witnessto Go(fs faithfulness. a place of comfort and of hope. a reminder of God's unchanginB love. It has been a privilege for our church to serve its communities, markln8 moments of global significance with special services as well as a qulet Spa￿ for prfvate prayer and refiection. It has been a particular joy to count the children, teachers and parents of Stokesley Primary Academy among those communities. In the summer, over 2￿ ¢hildren built the'ukraine Road, in church with stones painted in blue and yellow and tarryin6 prayers for the refugees on the road. To mark the death of the Queen. children and parents attended a special setv1￿, laylng homemade flowers on the altar. At harvest. they brought food for people 5tru88lin8 Wlth the c05t of livin8 rise5 which was given to Middlesbrou8h Fo(xlbank. And for Remembrance they joined us at the War Memorlal to remernber all those lost In conflitt. A thrivin8 relationship with the school saw Rev Ben Gunter takln8 weekly assemblies and betoming a familiar face children, teachers and parents. The wider Stokesley communlty celebrated the Queen's Jvbilee with a speclal servlce and a wonderful pScnlc wlth a jazz band at the Rertory. It was a delight to see all generations eating together as we welcomed new familles Into church Equally poignant was a 8athenn8 for the screening of the Qveen's funeral, which we showed on our new big screen in church followed by a service of commemoration. 11 was perhaps unsurprisin8 that the turnout for the Remembrance service and parade this year was particularly high with stsndin8 room only in Church and packe(I stieets, taking over £IOk for The Royal Brrtish Leglon. There has been much to remember and to give thank5 for this year. We are 8rateful to Churches Together in Stokesley for their hard work in makin8 this happen. Our church community has also eXperIen￿d deep sadness and loss as we said goodbye to oyr beloved Lay Reader of 30 years. Noél Harker, th'end and spiritual mentor to so many. It was a pleasure to welcome back the Rev Paul Hutchin50n, Noel's vicar for the previous decade who took the funeral alongside the current incumbent. Many of those whose Ilves she touched came to pay their respects including Readers from across the diocese and members of Order of the Holy Paraclete, of which she was a tertiary. We also said goodbye to lon8-Standing church member and dear friend, Hilary Frow, whose faithful and prayerful presence is much missed. We are gratefvl to our pastoral team, as they continue to provide support and a Ilstening ear to those who a￿ bereaved, ill or i501ated. Against this backdrop. the famlllar rhythm of ourthurch lrfe has continued. providin8 much needed certalnty. Gatherin8 together for our Lent course on the topic of prayer was a precious tome. 2022 has also been a year of experimentation as we have tried different servlce patterns to Include children and families- we now have around 20 chlldren whofollow the family seNice. We are grateful to Rev Jon Dean from our nei8hbourin8 parish for his help in swellin8 our capacitv. The new screen has created new opportunities in worship. induding variation in liturgy and music. It is also proving popular during occasional offices. and families have valued the opportunity to share photos of their loved ￿e5 at baptisms. weddin85 and funeral5. Numbers are graduallylncreaslng atOur￿Ular5erv1eeS 3longwith thediversityof ourworshlpplng communlty. Some new ideas have worked well. some less so. But Collective￿ there 15 a desire to welcome new people into our community and a willingness to moveforward together in our walk of faith. A "Generous Giving Campaign- t(M)k pla￿ In the Sprlng whith had fair resu￿5 considering the challenging wider economlc srtuation. There was a modest Trncrea5e in giving and a number of donors switched to a more efficient system, Page 4 of 15 the "Parish Giving Scheme". Unfortunately, several chose to opt out of one of its main beneffts which is an index-linked annual increase, meaning that in real terms their giving continuès to decrease each year. Our presen￿ in the wider commLbnity has increased thisyearwth our monthly Coffee and Cake and Kids Craft attracting over hundred people and around 30-50 chtldren each time. The church open day, autumn fair and garden party were well attended and raised significant funds along with our regular coffee momings. In October. a group of adults and families took part in a churchyard dear-up and we are grateful to rim Weller who built two large planter5 to improve the entrance to church. A donation to both improve the sound system and attach castors to the pews will mean that our building will become a more multi-purpose spa￿ for community use. The many seeds that were sown overthe course of 2022 came to fruitlon at Chrlstmas vAth increased attendance 3t all seNices and particularly the 'Crib and Carols, which saw 230 coming along. Our strong partnefshlp with the school resulted in a packed Nativity Serwce bythe children,. our rèlationship Churches ToBetheY saw a joint service of Nine Lessons and Carols directed by the Roman Catholic PTie5t Father Bill Charlton and with participation from all three churches. Our links with the unifornied organisations saw increased attendance at Chrlstingle. It was also a joy to welcome the Community Choir and Stokesley Choral Society lincluding the school choir) fortheir Christmas concerts. An enormou5 amount of tlme and effort has gone Into the wcrfk behlnd scer*s to enable all thls to happen. We are Immensely grateful to all who have contributed and we give thanks to God for all He has done in our church and community thi5 year. We look fofward to further developments in the coming year. The Parish is also responsible for a large detached churchyard (open for burials, maintsined by the PCCI on Helm51ey Road. Stokeslev. Our fundralslng, at £12.215 was slgnfficantly better than £6,592 ratsed In 2021. This reflerted the return of the Grand Draw, the Autumn Fair, and monthly Farmers. M3rket coffee and take. Restricted funds are held in CBF Church of England DeN)stt Fund and the CBF Church of England Investment Fund.
