Trustees Report- 2020-2021
Objectives and Activities
Our stated charltable objectlve Is "to 8lorlfy God by the advancernent of the Chrlstian Rellglon for the
beneflt of the publlc In accordance wlth the basls of falth of the church."
The trustees work alongslde the pastor and deacons of the church to promote the mlnlstry of the
church in every way. This Includes pastoral mlnlstry to members and other attenders, evangellstlc
mlnistry to those outslde the church and mlsslon ministry supportlng frlends who are worklng In
other parts of the world. We are commltted to followlng the teachlng of the blble In our actlvlties
and the basls of falth of the church reflects that commltment.
Public Benefit
When plannlng our activftles for the year, the trustees, pastor and deacons have consldered the
Commlsslon's guldance on publlc beneflt and the speclflc guldance on charltles for the advancement
of rellglon.
We beneflt the public by providing a safe, accessible and welcomlng envlronment for Chrlstlan
worshlp in the vlllage of Laleston. Thls Is achleved through our regular weekly meetlngs, some less
frequent but regular actlvltles and through speclal events at Wdrlous tlmes throughout the year. We
meet a valuable soclal need In provlding opportunltles for local people to meet together.
To meet these objectlves and to continue to run artivlties, we also need to maintsln and upgrade our
buildlngs and facllitles.
Achievements and Performance
Due to covld restrlctlons In Wales, we were not able to meet In person from March 2020 for some
months. We qulckly moved to make our Sunday mornlng servlce avallable on YouTube, wlth a playllst
of hymns and songs, and a recorded sermon from our pastor. Thls enabled a good proportlon of the
church to access the servlce. The notes of the sermon were sent out vla emall to everyone, and a
number of people wlth Ilmited Internet access or experlence recelved prlnted copies of the notes.
We have contlnued recordlng sermons and uploadlng to YouTube slnce then and also sendlng out
notes.
To replace our weekly blble study and prdyer meetlng, we moved to an onllne Zoom rneetlng on
average, around 10-12 people have been able to Joln In wlth that tlrne each week. We contlnued
holdlng our weekly prayer meetlng thls way throughout the year.
As covld restrfctlons eased In the Autumn, we were able to meet in person agaln and rtarted back
with in-person meetlngs on 6th September 2020. Thls Involved takln8 a number of extra precautlons
to keep everyone safe, Includlng rearranglng the church to allow soclal dlstancing, maklng hand
sanltlzer avallable, recordlng attendees wlth thelr contsct detalls, modlfylng entrance to and exlts
from the bulldlng to keep distsnclng and rlsk assessments and cleaning protocols. Thls Involved some
cost to the church whlch the flnances allowed wlth savlngs In other areas.

Church
We had to stop In-person meetings agaln later In the year for a short time, but since then have been
Gpen for a morning service each week. All other church activlties (such as ladies meetings, mens
ffleetings, coffee mornings and other special events) have been on hold until restrictions allow.
We have attempted to keep contact with church members through phone calls and vislts if allowed.
We have also arranged a number of deliveries of small gifts to church frlends to encourage them and
remind them we are thlnking of them (Christmas time for example).
Jolnt church actlvltles- We haven't been able to connert with other local churches because of covid,
but our pastor has continued with regular Zoom meetings with the other local pastors to share
information and ideas for how best to continue church activitles.
Mlsslon- during the year, despite covid we were still able to support a number of missionaries
worklng in S. Ireland, Hungary, Nepal, the Middle East and also in the UK. The church supports the
Baptist Missionary Society that has missionaries engaged in a variety of activities worldwlde. We also
support Unlon, the organisatlon that runs the bible college In Bridgend (Union School of Theology).
Buildlng work- To assist in achieving our objectives as a charity to the local community, we received
AMo¢tstlM ofknry Orgathts grant assistsnce through a community grant (administered
by BAVO). This allowed us to carry out maintenance work
on the boundary wall of the church.
Financial Review
Although experiencing a reduction in church services and activities because of the covid pandemlc,
collectlons and glft ald rellef compare well to the prevlous year.
The reduction in church ServI￿S and activities has resulted in lower utility costs, ministry expenses
and local mission expenditure. However, expenses relating to Covid were additional costs. These
clrcumstances have led to a surplus of 3.2K in our Unrestricted Fund for the year. It is good to see the
continuing financial commitment on behalf of members and friends of the church.
Grant income, administered by BAVO, was £2700. This allowed us to carry out repointing work to a
boundary wall. There were no receipts or payments in the year for the Designated Fund.
Reserves Policy
The deacons and pastor have agreed together to malntsln a reserve fund of £5,000 to cover runnlng
costs of the church for a perlod of approximately 3 months in the case of any financial emergency
affecting the current account finances of the church. The level of this fund will be reviewed annually
by the trustees and members of the church.
Volunteers
Many of the activities of the church rely on the time and energy given by volunteers. Activities
include organising speakers for ladies meetings, setting up the rooms for meetings, cleanin&
preparing flowers, serving refreshments and recording and banking money. The covid pandemic
brought some extra challenges and the trustees would like to register their sincere thanks to all those
who work so hard to make the church run smoothly and who give their time so freely.
