THE PARABLE OF THE LAMP

No one after lighting a lamp covers it with a jar or puts it under a bed, but puts it on a stand, so that those who enter may see the light. For nothing is hidden that will not be made manifest, nor is anything secret that will not be known and come to light (Luke 8:16-17).

The Master has been teaching the multitudes through parables but ultimately He wants the truth of the gospel to be preached in full measure (Isaiah 11:9 & Habakkuk 2:14). Through His teaching and answers the Master has enlightened His disciples. This new light ought not to be hidden in this dark world.

Jesus has been teaching His disciples the mysteries of the Kingdom, not for them to keep it secret, like Gnostics, but in order that it would be broadcast throughout the world. Due to the kind of opposition He has faced He has to whisper, as it were, these great truths in their ears. The time will come (after His resurrection) when His disciples will preach these great truths abroad, to reveal and bring out into the light what were mysteries not revealed to their forefathers.

This of course presents us today with the challenge: How do or ought we to show this light to those around us? This necessity of His followers to be light bearers is so important that the Master wants there to be no misunderstanding or ambiguity. He wants them to listen carefully, with full attention, so they may declare these truths with steadfast conviction. They must be living examples of this inner assurance, they must be living the message they preach. They must be bearing the blessings of which they speak. They must be like the good seed sown on the fertile soil. Those who do not heed His exhortation will not go unpunished because everything is going to be revealed on the Day of Judgment.

Those with a surrendered and obedient heart will go on from strength to strength. They shall know of mysteries unknown to others who are not obedient. The hearts of those who are indifferent and disobey will become darker and poorer. They shall loose what little joy and life they posses.

Every believer is called to ‘so let their light shine’ - which is really His light in them - in thought, word and deed. Only by listening to Him with the correct attitude and faith and obeying our commission are we able to shine for and in Him.

We look ahead into 2026 with the hope, the glorious hope of Christ’s return. The following includes some of the activities of 2025.

Evangelism: we have still not restarted our door-to-door ministry hopefully this will be started in some form during 2026.

Our monthly Coffee Morning and Fellowship is still running and provides a venue for relaxed conversation - All Welcome.

Sunday services: again I extend my thanks to Barry Kimber and Martin Drake who each minister one Sunday per month. We are indebted to both of them for their faithful service and healthful teaching.

Our Thursday Prayer and Bible Study is continuing with our study the Gospel of Luke. Many thanks to Margaret Kimber for providing us with a 3 course Church Lunch on the 3[rd] Thursday of each month.

Prophetic Witness: Although these are no longer held at Muff Field this work is supported by at least 5 members of Muff Field with members attending and taking an active part in meetings during 2025.

Other churches and Cricket Club:

During the summer, I occasionally visited Muff Field Cricket Club. This has maintained good contacts with each visit being a positive experience. In around September I was able to reproduce 5 old photographs (of past members) and present these to the club. This was to replace the photographs they had lost when their old clubhouse burned down. The club chairman gratefully received these photos.

We continue to have a loose fellowship with ‘New Life Christian Fellowship’ which continues to use our halls to conduct their meetings.

Due to Pastor Vojtech’s illness ‘Krestanska Misia Imanuel’ has not been using our halls. I am still in contact with Stefan (church member and translator) who is hopeful the church will once again use our halls once Pastor Vojtech’s health improves.

Conference and other special meetings:

For the third time (in as many years), Muff Field was not represented at the June Wesleyan Reform Conference 2025. Also due to other previous family commitments I was unable to attend the Ministers and Pastors Group Annual Retreat. On 18 October, I attended the Wesleyan Reform General Meeting at Jump, Barnsley. This included treasurers meeting, a general meeting with some training. Refreshments were generously provided by Jump Church.

Maintenance and repair of the church manse has proved much less time consuming and is now contributing somewhat to church funds.

Church outings: Our annual church outing in August was once again held at Lytham St Anne’s. Although it was cold and windy, we still found a warm restaurant, to eat our fish and chips.

Independent examiner's report to the trustees on the unaudited financial statements of Muff Field Wesleyan Reform Chapel - number 1131108

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (the Trust) for the year ended 31 December 2025.

Respective responsibilities and basis of report

As the Charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (the Act).

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust's accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

Independent examiner's statement

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in any material respect:

the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or
the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or
the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a 'true and fair' view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
