2￿24 has been a yoar of r&building. Some of that physi￿1, wtth substantial projects taking place at St. Margarat Iha
Queen, and St. Mark the Evangdist,. some of that relating to leadership and worshlp as we welcomed a new churth
coundl, Challce Bearers and a Sa¢7iStan at st Mary's; and some of it music81 as our long t8mi dlreclor of music at St
Mark's has made room for a new pi8ni8t to tske on thg rol8 of leading worship. V¥b a130 were sad to see Fr. Da￿d
ilna8 condude his ministy in the parish after nearfy 15 years 8t the baglnnlng of 2024, and at the 8nd of the year
John Marsh stepped down from his longstandlng role as the principal organist at SL Margaret's. Lastly, John Thorpe
after neamy 50 years Of serving In the pamsh has retlr8d as a Reader and has been mad6 Reader Emeritus by the
Dlcrese of Chithestar. We give thanks for those who have 8erved, and we live in hope tr8t other8 will continue to
step forward to serve future genar8tlon8. We are grat8ful that Fr. George Pltcher has jolried us and assists at our
parish Servi￿S, and L8ev88 and Domlnl8 Fields increased their roles in music.

At 31 Dec8rnber 2024, th8r8 wer8 169 p8rishlon8rs on the electoral roll, of 50 Nvere not residgnt ￿thIn Ihe
P8ri3h. 7 were added, 5 dled, 8 moved away and 2 removed th8mselvas.
Our longstanding electoral roll officer Mrs Saiiy Jathson has stood down an(J Mfs Katherine Arratoon h8S taken on tha
role. In 2025 th8 list has to be renewed a8 of the date of publication our totsl 18 147 Pari8hioners of whom 94 are
resident and 50 are non-resldenL

the role of our princlp81 organlst.
Our Sunday School Programm8 at St. Margarefs ￿ntinUeS to b1&83 the Congregation with a gr￿￿ng number of
young famlli8s. 2024 also saw 1 additional server join our Youth SaNer'$ Guild. while oth8r8 hav8 mved away taklng
our total number to 4.

the 8am Service at st. Margaret'8 Wrtth th8 exc8Ptlon of the 2nd Sunday of the month, 8nd w wo now have a servl
e8th Sunday 8t all church88 (with the exception of 5th Sundays and Patronal feasts where we gather8d for unlt8d
worship). In addltion, sp8dal semces were arranged Including; The Cross in ￿)r￿S and Mu81c on Gaod Frlday, Royal
Biitish Legion Remembrance Servi￿5 and Nine Lessons and Carols.
Outrnach

Hendall Manor hosted the parlsh for a lovely garden party and concert. We 8180 enJoy8d a Harve8t Supp8r and Lunch.
The Soci81 Commltte8 has already Set an ambitious calendar for 2025 8nd wo hope to grow In thls ar8a.
The parfth has *rong links wlth both Buxtgd School St Mark's Sthool Hadlow Down. Both schools usu81ty hold
ÉeNices in our churthe8, at least twce a term In St. Margar8fs, or once a week at St. MaJ*'s. Wiile SL Mark's has
always enjoyed a good relatir)n3hlp wlth the school, St. ManJaret'8 has seen a real boost since the 8rrival of the new
Head Of Buxted School. SL Ma￿S is in a p8rlod of disc4ming ivs govèmance model and 18 (x)nslderlng joining a
federation. The Rector 1£ an ex-officlo Govèmor of both schools and we are appointing a new Foundation Govemor at
Buxted School. The PCC Foundation Govemors at St. Mark's, for all or part of the y88r, are Sue Wllmott, Tom
S￿ncer, Peter Smyth and Katharine Daifjes.
The Buxtod Mess8nger Co￿lnued to provide monthly details of parish and community rM¥8 and 8v8nts. The monthly
print run Is 440 coples and th8 magaane 18 evailable on 8ubscYipticn or to purchas8 in various places in Buxted and
Five Ash Down. Great thanks to Linda Mason and her mory band of proofreaders and our dlstributors. The Hadlow
Down magazin8 (not run by the PCC), is dellver@d to 811 hou8eholds In Ihe ￿lIage, also indudes detsils of parish and
thurch matters.
Pmvision of the ChU￿h bulkllngs •nd chuffhyards for people to •nfviy
W8 are proud of the fact that all three of our thurches are usually open each day, f¢x all to enjoy., whether as a visitor
seeking a quiet place ft)r prayer and contemp18tlon. The cx>mments from visitors are universally appr8aativ8 of the

f8Ct that they are open, s￿￿ that they are cared for provide a tranquil space. Vthilst their c8ntral rol8 1£ as a
place of worship, have also used them a8 facilitie8 for the b8nefft of the wider community.
Thè fact that our churthes and their churdryards remain open, and In a good state of repair, Is thanks to the orwing
support and hard-work of so many people. but having the benefjt of historlc bulldlngs bring8 With it r8spon8ibilities.
Thls year we underwent a new round of quinquennial inspections, vthile there are no major issuas. all of our thurches
require upkeep and we will need to move forward wilh those r8comm8ndations as soon as reasonably practicable,
and have alreaty made good progross. Our ¢*urchyanls also benefit from the attendance of a number of volunt88rs,
both regular and those at ad hoc vK)rking parties. Issuas of Health & Safety are taken seriously, with mattars rasolved
as they arise. No s￿n￿cant Issues were r8POrted in the year.
W8 are gratdul to the Frtends of St Margaret's for grants to 8nable th6 works to b6 undortaken witrKArt undue
pre88ur8 on the parfsh'8 funds. Thi8 year the FOSM have b8en harrj at work ov8rs68lng dwlng tha bu8h85 by the
southem stone wall whith borders the Hotel. We 8lvKJ wero grateful for their providing the funds to clean the wlndow8
in the thurth as w*ll as a number of other taskg,
W8 were pleased to ¥￿IcOrne 8 group of studonts and fatxjlty frorn HurstPi8rpolnl College on a volunteer day to give
St Ma￿are¥S a good dean and a&8i3t with a number of other tasks.
St Mark's has 8 number of malntenanc8 issues that are t*ing addressod. W8 are grateful that the dralnage issue that
hacl caused tloodlng In the St. Mark's Churthyard 8nd created damp In the church ha8 now been rèsolv6d. We will
now look at remedying some of lh& damage caused.
Sl. Mary'3 had minor repalrs to the Ilghtenlng rod and we are looklng to repair one of the ￿n0￿8.
St Mary's Church H811 h88 been 8t6adlly increasing its u8e and is becoming a 8our(* of Incom8 for th8 parlsh as well
as a great resour(* frJr the ￿MmunIty.

The Lunch Club has continued to operate. Thls has been airned 8t the eldety and those Ilvlng alone and regularly

Iterns or dlsclosures In the accounts and seeking explanations frorn the management committee
concernlng any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be
requlred In a full audit, and consequently I do not express an audlt oplnlon on the accounts.
