’ - PTFA Trustees Annual Report 2023/24

The PTFA has had another bumper year! As Chair of the PTFA, I’m in the fortunate position to be able to share this news with you and to also take the opportunity to thank our PTFA Committee members for their amazing support and dedication throughout this academic year.

Some of our activities would not have been possible without the drive and enthusiasm of the committee members and also the number of volunteers who stepped forward to help with our biggest events.

Let’s talk about the BIG 3!

We successfully ran our traditional Alton Towers trip, taking 11 coach loads of 500 excited students, years 7 - 10, from the three Plymouth grammar schools. The weather was kind to us and a great day out was had by all.

The Christmas disco was a total sell out with Pryzm nightclub full of over 700 children from years 7-9 and only made possible with the support from volunteers who happily wore our hi-viz jackets and wandered around the nightclub making sure that the students were safe and happy!

The final one was the Summer disco; a different nightclub, another troop of volunteers, hard work and dedication from the committee and another great night out for the students from DHSB, DHSG and PHSG.

Throughout the year we serve refreshments at many school events and we even run a licenced bar at some of the school productions which is proving to be quite a hit!

All of these events are run so we can continue to support the school, its students and the wider community by approving grant requests from staff. The staff are invited to present their bid at the PTFA bi-termly meetings, and this year we have supported a memory tree and bench, chess sets, school leadership badges, an electric piano, table tennis tables, fitness suite equipment, eight watches for the Ten Tors teams, SEN items, Further Maths text books, geography fieldwork equipment, text books for A Level Classical Civilisation, training AEDs, Year 10 Career packs and a 120 litre Bratt Pan for Refuel!

All of this for just under £13,000 - WOW!

Something a little out of the ordinary this year was the opportunity to contribute £15,000 to a crowdfunder created by the school to upgrade their fitness suite facilities. With match funding from Plymouth City Council, the real value of our donation became a whopping £30,000 - the students and the wider community will all benefit from this fully equipped and modern gym.

Other fundraisers are our popular framed 11+ certificates of achievement signed by the Headteacher and our academic calendar produced using photos taken by students and entered into our calendar competition. We also receive revenue quarterly from ‘Your School Lottery’ from supporters who sign up to weekly entries.

’ - PTFA Trustees Annual Report 2023/24

Your support of any of these activities is greatly appreciated and we extend a warm welcome to any parents, guardians, teachers and staff who would like to join our committee or attend our meetings and enjoy the ‘feel good factor’ that comes with being part of such an active and successful PTFA!

I would like to add one more thing, and that is a special thank you to Beverley Kinsella, she is the golden thread that holds the whole PTFA together. As Chairs, Treasurers, Secretaries and Committee members come and go, Beverley remains the constant; she knows which events are coming up, she rallies the troops, she gives out chocolate Freddos as rewards for volunteers amongst many, many other things. I know she won’t particularly like this, however, I’d like to publicly thank Beverley, for always being there, for being the golden thread, for being the driving force behind a very successful PTFA and for being a lovely, thoughtful person. If I could magic up a massive Freddo, I’d give it to you. Thanks for everything you do Beverley!
