## **WOOD GREEN TEAM ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2020** ## **Aim and purposes** Wood Green Team Parochial Church Council (PCC) has the responsibility of co-operating with the incumbent, Revd Ian Booth, in promoting in the ecclesiastical parish, the whole mission of the church, pastoral, evangelistic, social and ecumenical. ## **Objectives and activities** The PCC is committed to enabling as many people as possible to worship with us and to become part of our parish community. The PCC maintains an overview of worship throughout the parish and makes suggestions on how our services can involve the many groups that live within the parish. Our services and worship put faith into practice through prayer, scripture and music and sacrament. When planning our activities for the year, the incumbent and the PCC have considered the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit and, in particular the supplementary guidance on charities for the advancement of religion. In particular, we try to enable ordinary people to live out their faith as part of our parish community through: - Worship and prayer; learning about the Gospel and developing their knowledge and trust in Jesus - Provision of pastoral care for people living in the parish - Missionary and outreach work To facilitate this work it is important that we maintain the fabric and improve the facilities of our buildings. ## **Achievements and performance** ## _Worship and prayer_ Up until March 2020 the worship and prayer life of the parish had settled into the patterns established the previous year as noted in red. As with last year, there has been an increase in the liturgical life of the parish and those joining us. Morning and evening prayer are offered daily, the usual Sunday services at 8.30am said Mass, 10.30am Parish Mass and the addition of 6.30pm Benediction mark the Lord’s day. A full pattern of worship is offered throughout the week with Masses offered on Sunday Parish Eucharist 11am and Tuesday at St Michael at Bowes and Wednesday, Thursday evening holy hour, Friday and Saturday at St Michael’s Wood Green. All major holy days are kept and these are advertised on notice boards and on social media. Lent and Advent study groups have also been introduced. It is regrettable that the pandemic saw the cessation of many of our public acts of worship, but we were able to offer services of prayer and spiritual communion online via our Facebook page and YouTube channel which was well received. ## _Pastoral care_ The Incumbent regular takes communion to the house bound and those who are sick. Hospital visits are made when appropriate and care of the bereaved is offered before and after funerals. The Incumbent makes himself available after every service should people need to talk and a Saturday morning surgery operates for those seeking Baptism and Marriage enquiries, Confession or prayer. In July 2019 our Curate Fr Andy Coates who assists with all aspects of parish life and pastoral care was ordained into the priesthood. Again due to the legal requirements set out by the government it was difficult to offer face to face pastoral care so much of it moved over to telephone conversations. As part of our commitment to the parish a weekly email was sent out to all on the electoral roll and the clergy made weekly phone calls covering all those whose details we hold. Page 2 ## _Mission and evangelism_ A further casualty of the pandemic was the closure of our schools and our Sunday School. Confirmation classes were also put on hold also. We have been unable to operate our much loved drop-in or the Thursday afternoon Safe Haven. We hope to restore these once the lockdown eases completely. Our Sunday School (St Michael’s Followers) attracts a good number of children many of whom are then prepared for Confirmation. Confirmation classes are led by the Rector and the curate with assistance from a member of the Church family. We have a good team of servers in their early teens and twenties who assist at the Parish Mass. A drop-in operates on Wednesday which offers a simple meal, free of charge to those in need. – On Thursday afternoons a Youth Group runs from 3pm 5pm offering a place of fun and security to children from Year6 upwards. ## _Deanery synod_ A newly constituted synod was formed over the past year with East and West Haringey being combined into one deanery. 3 members of the PCC sit on the deanery synod and this provides the PCC with an important link between the parish and the wider structures of the Church. ## **Financial review** Total receipts on unrestricted funds were £154,656 of which £31,591 was recovered in gift aid from a backlog of claims and £15,902 was income from solar panels relating to previous years. Total payments on unrestricted funds amounted to £71,046 of which £10,000 was contributed to the London Diocesan Common Fund. The net result for the year was an excess of receipts over payments of £83,610 on unrestricted funds. The balance to carry forward at 31 December 2020 on unrestricted funds was £175,694. The balance to carry forward on restricted funds at 31 December 2020 was £20,272. ## **Reserves policy** It is the PCC policy to maintain the recommended balance on unrestricted funds which equates to at least three months unrestricted payments. The cash balance on the unrestricted funds at the year-end is well in excess of this figure. ## **Volunteers** As with much else this year we have been unable to utilise our volunteer base as almost all activities in and around the Church have had to cease until further notice. Our volunteers remain keen however and are making plans for activities to resume when we are able to do so. ## **Structure, governance and management** The PCC is a corporate body established by the Church of England. The method of appointment of PCC members is set out in the Church Representation Rules. Membership of the PCC consists of the Rector, churchwardens and members elected by those members of the congregation who are on the electoral role of the church. Members of the congregation are encouraged to register on the Electoral Roll and stand for election to the PCC. PCC members are responsible for making decisions on all matters of general concern and importance to the parish including deciding on how the funds of the PCC are to be spent.
