This past year has seen a time of great reflection for CMC. With Covid beginning to slip into history and ‘so called’ normality slowly returning, we begin to realise the long effects of Covid and see that much will not return to the way it was. On the positive side, Zoom services continue, enabling those unable to attend on a Sunday to take part. 

Sunday worship has grown a little, with a few newcomers joining our community. Though still small and increasingly elderly, the congregation has been keen to examine our current work and mission in order to aid the future work. We have used the analogy of being a damaged ship in dry dock, spending much time taking stock and through consultation and prayer establishing how and when we might relaunch into a new adventure.  A very successful Leadership Team ‘away day’ in January 2023 brought much into focus. From that event a detailed report was written up with our findings, the main discovery being that one of our key gifts at CMC is hospitality.  Alongside that we recognised the need to develop our worship (style and format) and think carefully about the implications on our building if we are to be truly good hosts, looking at areas such as disabled access and the need for a new lift (the current one is 24 years old and is temperamental!). 

Connected to this we realised that over the year ahead we need to give priority to the work and mission of our Beacon café.  A small working group was set up to look at how we might make the Beacon surroundings more attractive for regulars and visitors alike. 

Warm Space was set up (Warm and Cosy) in response to the winter 2022-23 utility bills crisis. This has been successful to the extent that as summer 2023 approached the work continued as a ‘warm welcome’ with its title changing to ‘Cool and Chilled’.  It will revert back to ‘Warm and Cosy’ later in 2023. 

Toddlers has grown slightly this year, and the Wednesday Fellowship continues to be an important fortnightly event for a good number of mainly (though not exclusively) elderly members. 

CMC is a worshipping church with a real heart for its community. We try to be open to all and always aim to be a place of welcome, friendship and support.

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Chepstow Methodist Church for the
year ended 31 August 2023 set out on pages 1 to 3. As the Church's trustees, you are responsible for
the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 20111'the
Act,).
I report in respect of my examination of the Church's accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act
and, in ¢arrying out my examinalion. I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity
