## Trustees Annual Report Chepstow Methodist Church. Reg No:1130776

## 2020-2021

Although this has been a challenging year for us because of the ongoing effects of Covid-19, we have continued to work in new ways to fulfil our charitable objectives as best we can. We have continued to worship as a community through the use of Zoom, and in times when restrictions were looser and we were able to meet in person with distancing and masks, we had a combined Zoom and in-person service. We also record these services and later post them to YouTube so that those who might not be able to attend live still have the opportunity to participate. This has included special seasonal acts of worship, including Blue Christmas, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services, along with Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday services. We have worked to make worship as accessible as possible by also sending out DVD recordings of services to people who don’t have Internet access. Our House Groups have also continued to meet via Zoom throughout varying levels of lockdown.

We aim to serve the local young people, though this has been difficult during this last year. Our Boys Brigade (which includes girls) is still strong and have kept in touch during this time and are looking forward to meeting again. Our Parent and Toddler groups have also been unable to meet, but our project leader has kept in touch with the families who normally attend.

We continue to serve the local community by joining with other denominational churches in the area to run a Foodbank and debt counselling courses. Our premises are centrally located to the local town next to the bus station. We invest regularly in the upkeep of the church premises, even during the lockdown periods with daily checks of the building and grounds by volunteers.

During normal times, local community groups are regular users, including art groups, slimming groups, many U3A groups, Rainbow and children’s drama groups. Our ‘Singing for Fun’ group for people living with memory loss and their carers is very popular and much appreciated. However, these groups have not been able to meet during the last year, but we look forward to being able to welcome them back.

We also host the ‘Beacon Cafe’ which is a community orientated hospitality project, where food and drinks are affordable, and there are people who are willing to pray with people or be a listening ear. This project also helps rough sleepers, etc. on a frequent basis. We were able to open the Beacon for a period of time over the last year, but we were forced to close again after further lockdowns. We look to open the Beacon again at the end of May.

We maintain our commitment to the work we do, which is centred in a Christian ethos, in these challenging times. We have continued whatever work has been possible, while also being committed to our duty of care in keeping people as safe as we can.
