In planning our activities for the year, the trustees had in mind the guidance from the Charity Commission on public benefit and kept that guidance in mind at our committee meetings.

We held two concerts for the public in the year in June and December, showcasing a wide range of music from classical to show tunes and popular music. It is the policy of the choir to showcase music written by women composers, whose compositions are more marginalised, alongside more well known pieces by composers of all genders.

**Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)**

Most, though not all, members of the choir are drawn from the LGBT community and we also supported a number of charitable events such as a service for National Hate Crime Awareness Week, a church service to mark Pride month, and to mark the anniversary of the bombings of the Admiral Duncan pub in Soho.

## **Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)**

Choir members are able to apply to the choir committee for grants towards the cost of festival events such as Hand in Hand and Various Voices to assist with their individual budgets.

You **may choose** to include further statements, where relevant, about:

The choir is managed wholly by volunteers, though we pay an honorarium to our Director of Music and Assistant Director of Music who work on a self-employed basis.

- policy on grantmaking;

- policy programme related investment;

- contribution made by volunteers.

Section D                      Achievements and performance

**Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**

In the first part of the year, the choir’s focus and activity was to prepare for its summer concert, held in June at St Mary-at-Hill Church in the City of London. We performed a range of music with classical music represented by pieces by Clara Schumann and the _Lesser Doxology_ from Sergei Rachmaninoff’s _All-Night Vigil_ . More modern pieces included ‘Hail Holy Queen’ from Sister Act and a setting of Nina Simone’s ‘I wish I knew how it would feel to be free’.

Our Christmas concert took place at St Paul’s Knightsbridge, again showing the same diversity of range of music as well as a number of popular Christmas carols which all the audience joined in with.

In August, the choir participated in the Hand in Hand Festival in Bristol where over 50 choirs and vocal ensembles from the LGBT community took part in the 3 day festival. Diversity performed at the Bristol Beacon and in street performances during that period.

As a voice within the LGBT community, we sought to support a number of events and services marking important occasions and anniversaries for our community. The 30[th] April marked the 25[th] anniversary of the bombing at the Admiral Duncan pub in Soho, aimed specifically at the gay community and we participated in the commemoration event in the gardens of St Anns Soho. We also took part in the annual service for Pride month in June and for National Hate Crime Awareness week in October.

Membership of the choir continues to grow following the loss of a significant number of members during the Covid pandemic and we are now back at the levels of members that we had prior to the pandemic.

## **Section E                    Financial review**

**Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves**

We seek to hold at least the equivalent of at least 12 months expenditure in reserve and remained comfortably within that figure throughout 2024.

**Details of any funds materially in deficit**

None

## **Further financial review details (Optional information)**

You **may choose** to include additional information, where relevant about:

- the charity’s principal sources of funds (including any fundraising);

- how expenditure has supported the key objectives of the charity;

- investment policy and objectives including any ethical investment policy adopted.

Our main source of revenue comes from members’ subscriptions, concert revenue and gift aid.

We have not applied for any grants from any government body during the year.

Our expenditure is on honoraria for our music directors, as well as the cost of putting on concerts and hiring rehearsal space. All go towards achieving our objects of promoting choral music for the public.

We do not have a specific investment policy and do not have funds available for investment.
