## Ministers report for 2025 AGM (23/04/25)

1 Corinthians 1:4-9 **[4 ]** I always thank my God for you and for the gracious gifts he has given you, now that you belong to Christ Jesus. **[5 ]** Through him, God has enriched your church in every way—with all of your eloquent words and all of your knowledge. **[6 ]** This confirms that what I told you about Christ is true. **[7 ]** Now you have every spiritual gift you need as you eagerly wait for the return of our Lord Jesus Christ. **[8 ]** He will keep you strong to the end so that you will be free from all blame on the day when our Lord Jesus Christ returns. **[9 ]** God will do this, for he is faithful to do what he says, and he has invited you into partnership with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

The tone of my message to you this year is one of immense gratitude. Ive said before and I will say it again – there is a culture of willing service in this church. And that is coupled with a church where every person can offer their gifts and talents, their words and their practical service for the benefit of the church and its mission to Greenhill.

We particularly have several people we need to express our gratitude to.

Ken Dutton

Jean Booth

Dennis Harley

Scott Lavery. We have already thanked him as he leaves his post as Community Outreach Worker on Saturday. Remember, that when he started his employment, the church was still a building site and we were in lock down. He helped to keep the church connected through his work with social media. When we did return to work – we all wore masks... so it was a while before he recognised anyone! He has done a great job and we pray for him as he goes on to pastures new.

My gratitude extends beyond these people – to the whole church. I echo Paul’s words to the church at Corinth. I thank God for all the gifts he has given to this church. I thank God that we at the heart of this church is a desire to know God’s love in the risen Jesus and that we want to find ways of reaching out to share Jesus in our community. I thank God that everything we do is based on prayer. I am full of gratitude for the prayer meeting – the engine room of the church. That also goes for all the fellowship groups in the church.

And then for every person who gets involved in Messy Church, Greenhill get together, Second Sunday at 3pm, Memory Cafe, Stay and Play, Coffee mornings, the care for the

property, the worship, the preaching. I acknowledge all that Ian White has done to establish the School of Discipleship and the 30-40 participants on the Romans Course. For the pastoral visitors and the cooks and servers at the Munch club. And I thank God for those who willingly offer to be on the Leadership Team.

Im sure I will have missed something!

To everyone – God is faithful and he has invited you into partnership with Jesus Christ our Lord.

The Church at Corinth was a diverse group of people, but united in Christ. I think we need to hear that.

At our recent vision day on 12[th] April, Rev Romeo Pedro was our theological listener and one of observations was that we were a diverse group of people, but that is not a weakness, but a strength.

The Vision day was the beginning of a process all of you in the prayerful conversation about the future direction of the church. You have heard the initial insights from that day. The Leadership Team will be prayerfully reflecting on results of the day to discern what is next. It is the beginning of the process which will shape the future, this will include the employment of a Lay Worker.

In the interim period, and after consultation with the Church Council and permission from the Circuit Lay Employment Group, we have appointed Naomi Gordon Mckibbin as our Community Outreach Manager and her contract is until at least 31[st] August this year. I am confident that Naomi will have your full support and that she will do great job. Please keep her in your prayers.

During this next few months, the Leadership Team will be discerning what we have learned from the vision day and reviewing the job description of the outreach worker. They will be involving the Methodist District HR officer in this process. Once all the permissions have been sought, and if we have the adequate funds in place, we will advertise for a more substantive Community Outreach Manager. We are obliged to advertise this more widely and the HR Officer will be involved throughout the whole process.

This raises another significant issue of funding. The Lay Worker funding has primarily come from ringfenced giving specifically for this positon. It has been supplemented from money raised from subs from activivies like Stay and Play and from Council grants for warm spaces for the aspect of the work of the outreach worker that particularly focus on Community support like the Munch Club. At this point we have enough funding to pay a full-time worker until May 2026. I am therefore flagging up that we will be seeking to have a

gift day and inviting more regular giving to enable us to advertise for a full-time post for another three years from the Autmn of 2025. I am full of gratitude for the faithful, generous givers and invite others to consider joining the subscriber's group so that we can maintain this essential role in the life of this busy church.

I finish my report this year with a word of gratitude for a church that is blessed and enriched by your presence and part in it. God has endowed us with every spiritual gift needed to be a growing church and a place of love and welcome to all. You have found that there is a place for you and that is our message to those in our community too.

To God be the glory.

Jonathan
