Roman• 12.2 Church S•cr•tarf8 R•port 2021 Our vgrse for the year focused on transfomiaUon and 2021 cartainfy was a yèar of eh8n99 and transformation In many arèas of ehureh lrfe and also in society as we came through changing Covid restrictions and tha amazing vaccAnation progr8mm8, r85ulting in th8 888ing of re8tri¢tions towards the end of the year. We live as God's new Crea￿.On$ in Christ and our Christian lif• is an ongoing pro¢ess of being transfomied and INing a life worthy of Him and one that points others to Him. Th8 question at the beglnnlng of th8 year was: would w8 b8 '98th'ng back to the Okl norm OT would we be looking fonv8rd to th8 New nomi7, Inevitably it has been a bit of both. Th• pattam of the y8ar c8rt8inly did not see us stsnding stlll. Old ministri93 were reassessed and new ones started. We have been continuously seeking, in God's s￿ngth. to buikl up the fellowship through regular contsct during lockdowns, by liv8strè8ming services and online meetings of all kinds, by daèpening Our pra￿r life through our Week of Prayer and a numb$r of add￿Onal Prayer groups, by sustaining our Young Peopks, work, and in 8 rang8 of ministri88 outlined in the reports whith follow on from Ihis oveNew. It was with sadness that we said goodbye to some of our bngstanding members. We appreciate all that they cwlributed to the church and we ar8 pleased that they are now involved In other church fèllowships local to them. We recwded with sadness the dèaths of som8 of our d8ar members. We have the assurance that thay are with thèir Lord in glory and thank God for their beautrful wiiness of faith over m8ny years and for their huge contribution to the lrfe of th8 church here al Union. It has also been very encouraging to w&l¢ome n M8￿berS into fellowship. A new and excithng developrnent h88 been the merger of the 21st High Wycombe scout group wth our own 12th High Wycombe scout group. Tha addltion of néw leaders that this has brought is a roal ancourag8mènt. There was a speaal Ihanks to one of our m6mbors for his 50 ygars of service to scoutiThJ with the local aThJ regional scout leaders participating in the celebration and recognlb.on of long $8rvic8. Cllmatè Chèngè vras much in the news and we wèrè challènged and encouraged as one of our mèmb&TS 8ttended the COP26 Climate Change COnfe￿nce in Gksgow. He was a d818gate representing YCCN (YoutYJ Christian Climate Ne￿rkI a group of young Chri31ian3 °choosing to follow Jesus in tha pursuit of dirnate justice.. We were challenged as individuals and as a thurch as to our stewardship of God's cmation. We continue to o)nsldar lh8 anvronrnental impact of our declsitsn5 including th03e invdved in the LiviThJ Stonès project. Our s8nlor pastor wa$ able to take his postponèd sabb8ti¢81 from May to August. Thls w89 a time of refreshment and restoration. Although he was not able to acce55 all that he had hoped, he had time to pray. r8ad and meditate on God's word. He relumed with r&newed &nargy and vi$ion for the future and his perspectivè on how we should 'come out of Covid. 8nd on the challenges of thls fot many, has proved very helpful as we nw)ve(I through to Christmas and Into 2022.

UNION BAPTIST CHURCH TRUSTEES. REPORT (CONTINUED) FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2021 Reserves The church has a r8s•rv6s policy which was updated in S8ptemb8r 2021. At 31st D8cemb8r 2021 there wa¥ £42,100 In the reserves account. The reqLsired 18vèl of resaNes was calculated agalnst the updated resèrvas polfey. The currenl level is within thè 5°/0 tolerance specthed by the policy and therefwe 18 compliant with the policy. Risks In 2021 the m8in ￿SkS related to the potents'al for reduced Inixjme, due to the coronavlrus pandemic arKJ more lattgrfy th8 increasing cost of living impacting on people's incom•, and hence potential ability to giv8. In 2021 W8 did sè& a continuation of 8 V8ry SlgnifirAnt reduction in rental income compared with pre pandemic levels. caused by lockdown and 8SSOCiatad r8strictSons on the use of the church pr8mi58s. However. through careful management of 9xp8nditure, and in particular offertory $ignifi¢antty abovè budg•t d¢$pite the factors highlighted above, there was an overaN surplus of income ovèr èxpenditure. LookiThJ ahead to 2022. whllst we saw some increase in rental incorne tOW8rds thè ènd of 2021 contrnuing into earfy 2022, thera ramains considerable uncertainty ovgr the18v81 tsf rental income that tha church will r8C8iVg in the medium temi. 2022 is also likely to seè signlficanlty greater infiationary pressure in a number of areas of oxpenditure. The Signif￿￿t surplus in 2022 has resulted in our funds being in a healthy position and it is expect￿ that thi$ will provid• a more than adequate buffer for any potential deficit in 2022. The establi3hed monthly financial reporting to the trustees will ensure that this is carefully monitored and managed during the y8ar. Howov&r, in the medium lemi (beyond 20221 thore is the prospect that the church's income base will remain somewhat lower th8n prè pandemic levels because of continuing bwgr rental in￿rne, and this will need to be Carefully rnanag￿. The other main financial Tisk in 2022 is the progress on the Living Stones sanctuary ￿rbIshrnent project. Ajthough a very 8ignifiGqnt amount has al￿adY been donated to th8 project, and more is pledged. this is still a signfficant potential financial commitment for the church. This risk is belng mitsgated by development of a det8i18d design. leading to a firm cost of the work5 with ovarvkgw of the project by a ste&ring group and thè 1ruste￿.
