## **Northern Tamil Association - New Year Celebration 2022**

Tamil New Year 2022 was celebrated on 15th May 2022 at Stockport Plaza Hall in Manchester. The NTA’s annual spring melodies concert for Tamil New Year this year had singers Ranjith and Sireesha from India, supported by Surya Murugesh, also from India and Vani Jeyaram from the UK. The band members included Karthik Devaraj who is a prominent keyboardist/Pianist from India. It was a fantastic evening of music with the singers performing popular numbers that started with melodies and moved on to peppy music that had the audience up on their feet dancing. The singers were supported by a fantastic performance from the band that was very well received by the audience. The tempo was built up nicely culminating in a high energy medley of songs that had most of the audience dancing to it. Arshad did an excellent job of compering the event.

Sai Spice provided the catering, which was a big hit, and the audience had a memorable evening. Mr Siva Balachandran and his core committee team had done a sterling job in putting the show together for our audience.

## **Northern Tamil Association - Diwali Celebration 2022**

Deepavali Kondattam (Diwali celebrations) was celebrated on 15th October 2022 at Wythenshawe Forum Hall, in Manchester.

Dr Santhanakrishnan Balasubramanian, as the president, led the planning with his core team to organise the annual event for Diwali. Dr Saravanan Prakasam, the secretary, welcomed the guests and participants to the event.

Dr. Gita Upadhyaya of Kalasangham was the chief guest for the afternoon and she expressed her joy at being invited to our event and it was fitting to have someone as accomplished as her to be the chief guest of a cultural event.

There were close to 60 performances from different regions and the competition was stiff. Every year the bar is raised, and the quality of performances were of high standards. Derby and Nottingham won the NTA trophy with Manchester picking up the runner’s trophy. It was a magnificent evening. Dr Santhanakrishnan delivered the vote of thanks and expressed his gratitude to all the volunteers, participants, and committee members for making the event a successful one.

Catering was provided by Sai Spice and we had sponsorships from Lakshmi stores, Aram foundation, Shubo kundo, Lifeline and Educare UK
