Once they are in the surtaLe, the water evaporates, but the salts remain. The white salts L'an be removed with a ligjht scrub with a soft bristled brush and warm water. It is possible to prevent cfflorescenL'e by removing the source of the water on the bricks, in other words by prevLntinLY the gutters leaking down the outside walls! THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND Dioc888 of Chester The Parlsh Church of ter's Hale Financial Review The income to support the Church in its pastoral care and ecumenical mission is the sum of giving by parishioners, both planned and unplanned, together with any surplus generated from the letting of its facilities for local community activities. In the year to December 2024, there was a surplus from all activities of £29,918 (2023: £9,128 deficit). The transition from a deficit in 2023 to a surplus is lar&yely down to the following: As in the previous 2 years, very generous contributions from the Heritage and Centenary Trusts, together amounting to £60,184 (2023: £49,963), allowed the Church to continue to fultil its activities and carry out significant building repairs on all church buildings. Costs savings initially made durinLY in 2023 such as the deci8ion to make the role of Children and Youth Minister redundant and to negotiale with the l)ioccse a halvingT of the amount paid as the Parish Share have continued to have a benLficial eft'ect in 2024. In addition there have bLen savin&ys on ulilities and ot'fice costs. Buildingy repair and maintenance costs, whilst still SiLynificant are lower than in 2023. Income from planned and unplanned gFivingi, includinLi collections and tax reb<ltes, maintained a similar level to 2023 levcls at £96,867. "I'his is the first time in six years that there has not becn a si7.eable year on year declinL, although levels are still significantly behind 2018. AvL'raLFe pltinned Lyivingy per pL'rson increased by 5.4 % althougih Ihe number contributingi fell duc to the loss of 8 members. Contributions werc receivcd from 112 members in the year, a t.all ()t' 7 %. Other donations, including Gift Aid, amounted to £17,367. I lire income in both the Assembly Rooms and Peter14ouse was below 2023 levely but lower building co%ts have ensured a surplus in both locations. At the Assembly Rooms the surplus was £15,366 {2023.. £2,719 deficit) and at Peter I louse of £5,048 (2023: £1,847). The tcnant at School Flouse left during 2023 resultin&1 in a vacant period during which t'urthcr maintLnancc work was Larried oul. A new tenant is now in place, the net eff.ect in the year is incomc of £6,092 (inLomc £15,128 and costs £9,036). Lt,XPL'nditure within unrestricled funds decreased by l % to £175,677 (2023: £177,428), excluding Assembly Rooms and Peter Iqouse costs. After allowing for the Mission in Action Grant unrestricted income exceeded expenditure by £44,850 (2023: £2,039 deficil). Within restricted funds, expeiidilure on charitable activities totdlled £11,104. Taking depreciation into account expenditure exceeded income by £13,837 (2023: £7,089). J'hc surplus has allowed the Church to re-build some longer-terni savingy re8erves. This surplus has left the Church in a significantly stronger tinancial position going forward.s albcit this has only been achieved with the support of Tru.8t contriblltions. I'hc PCC has approved a small deficit budget for 2025 based on similar Icvels of activity and expenditure as 2024. It continues to recoLNnise the need to reach out to a new generation of planned &Nivers to reverse the decline in conlribulors and income highlighted above. 10
THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND Dlocese of Chester The Parish Church of St Peter's k4al Reserves Polic The unrestricted funds at the year-end wcre £156,335 (2023: £112,580) which the PCC considers adequate to cover f'uture costs and emergency expenditure. In making this judgement, the Trustees have considered the currenl and predicted future levels of income and they believe it is reasonable, to&¥ether with the cost reducing actions origyinally taken in 2023, to assume the Lliurcli rcmains a going concern. (Sec Note l. l ) Risk Mana ement The principal risk is that the number of members and the funds raised through the stewardship scheme declines to lin extent that the church fails to raise enough funds to support itself. The decline in income over a number of years continues to be a key focus with new younbFer members enLouraged to join the stewardship scheme. Increasingy other income sourLes, particularly hire income. is also a major centre of attention. Expenditure continues to bL controlled. VenLrablc Michael Mc(Jurk PCC, Chair 03 MarL'h 2025
