REVIEW OF THE YEAR 2020
2020 has l*en a very strange year for all of us and h&s massively affected the ministy of our chuwh. The
year begdn well with us serving the I(￿1 church through offering Safeguard training* Witnessing a full
church for the baptism of Ameli¢ Print by the Bishop of Burnley, and there w&$ an ¢x¢ellenl ttrformance by
the Amateur Dramatics for their 2020 roniomime. A year-long investigation begun on the reredos, and
as a result the curtains at the Easl ETh1 were rwn0V￿.
However. in March. Covid invaded our lives we were forced to close. This closure forced us io re•think
our ministry, and slowly we began to re-orientale around resources io enable people to continue practicing
their faith at home. We produced a b¢x)klet to help people to pray. developed our websi1¢ to make full use of
the 'N¢ws' section for refleciions. develo￿ a dire¢iory ol. email addresses to deliver a weekly update of
resourc￿. and began delivering 'The Way. to the house￿Und.
When able io we opened our church building for privatc prnyer with the help of volunteers to staff the
church, and ensure the buildin8 was Covid-se¢ure so we eould hosi funerals. Beginning on Easter Sunday.
and covering celebrations such &8 St G￿rge'S Day, AscerLSiOK and Pentecosi we began produ¢ing pre

The Buildings Team m￿e the most of the empty building to crack on with 8 number of l&sks. and thanks lo
their dedication, Ihe building is in a far ￿tter sta* than ￿ ihe treginning of the year. On 5 July lockdown
was lifted ond there w&8 great excit¢m¢M to be able to return lo Churc￿ a feeling which was exacerbated in
August when the choir were able io re-start sin8ing. In September. with ihe Sunday School still impo55ible
to run, we launcl￿d our 'Sunday Club at Home. series of bi-weekly vid￿5 lo help fill the teaching gap and
enable families who would find altending church difficuli ￿￿er the current restrictions to wor%hip and learn
al home. We continued our newer tradilion of B￿k2Sch￿l Sunday where we prayed for those r¢turning lo
school. and welcomed the Diocesan Families worker. Sarah Farnshaw, as our preacher.
In November, we were forced to close once agaio only this lime we were more than ready with our online
resour¢es and Open Church beginning again from day one. We were back to our services for Advent 2 and
had already pr¢pared for a sma]ler nUM￿r of Chn"stm&% servi￿. includin8 some pre-recorded services
where it w&w'l safe to offer our usual services. Fortunately. w¢ were able to have our Christmas Day service

ACHIEVEMENfs AND PERFORMANCE
¥Through all the changlng scenes of life- is the first line of a hymn which is probably less well known

The C for Constancy, one of the 3C's refer¢nced in previous Ann￿al Re￿rts. must be used to describe the

Our new interim operning Tequiremenls were de￿ndent upon supp)rt from a team of Marshals to ensure

FINANCIAL REVIEW 2020
The Covid 19 pandemic had a severe effect on our finances this year and our income was very much
reduced. We cul back our spending to minimise our deficit but expenditure in 2020 slill exceeded our
income leaving us with an overall deficit of £36.996 overall. The gr0￿h in value of our church investments
during the year was negated by need io sell some assets to cover cash needs following the sharp
reduction in income during ihe pandemic
We need to continue to address the undcrlying ormting deficit. Under nornial circumstances a significant
attnual surplus 15 Vital if we are lo remain solvent and have the reserves th&t we ne￿ to meet major capita]
Costs &nd to carry on our Mission.
Planned al￿ committed regular weekly or monthly giving is th¢ main foundation of our church funding.
During ihe year our Stewardship Ir￿Me has increased by over 511A in spite of the disruplion caused by I
pandemi¢. Also, there has been a move towards BACS payments rather than which is a to te
welcomed. We need to erL8ure that we all review ow levels of giving on a ￿8ular basis.
The income that w¢ receive from HMRC through Gift Aid also rose very slightly this year 8￿j we must
ensu￿ that we encourage ￿oPle to wse Gift Aid as much as FM)ssible.
W¢ are always grateful for dorrdtions we receive from otkr olganisatiors but the economi¢ downtum
had a negative effect on Vall￿ of these in 2020
The rental incom¢ for thc Hall had been rising significantly and there a surp1￿$ of income over costs in
the firs¢ quarter. How¢ver the temporary closutes of the Hall during the l(KkdOWt￿ had a m&ssive impact on
income whtch we hope to reverse in firture year&
