## **Finance:**

Peter Borley-Cox began by stating this would be his last APCM as he was standing down as treasurer. He then gave a brief overview as to how the parish finances had been over the last financial year.

Peter Borley-Cox pointed out that in 2023 the total amount of income was £148.5k (£138 for unrestricted fund and £10.5K for restricted funds). This was a reduction of £40k over the previous year. There had been a one-off legacy in 2022.

Expenditure had increased but this was mostly due to the increased cost of utilities. The parish share had remained static at £109,177.

The consequence was that the PCC had a £2.5k surplus on the accounts, which is good news but needs to be built upon.

Peter Borley-Cox then moved to the balance sheet. He explained that it was very similar to the 2022 one. However, the income earned by the PCC was 3% higher than in 2019 (pre pandemic).

Peter Borley-Cox told the APCM that the parish reserves meet the PCC policy.

Finally, Peter Borley-Cox explained that the Independent Examiner, Jackie Brame, had nothing to report to the PCC before the approval of the 2023 accounts.

Peter Borley-Cox then asked for any questions-

- Rev Alison Wagner asked what the St John the Baptist reserves can be used for. Peter responded that it could only be spent in line with how the legacy was written. Following on Mark Brame asked if the reserves are invested. Peter responded that some was kept back for working capital, but a significant proportion was invested.

8

Peter Borley-Cox proposed that the accounts were approved. It was seconded by Mandy Bentley. All were in favour of this motion.

Revd. Canon Jane thanked both Peter Borley-Cox and Sue Evans for their hard work during the last year. However, as this was Peter’s last APCM as treasurer, Revd. Canon Jane Butler made a presentation to Peter to thank him for this hard work over the past 14 years.

## **Appointment of Independent Examiner:**

Peter Borley-Cox explained that Jackie Brame was willing to be the Independent Examiner again for the coming year. The appointment of Jackie Brame was proposed by Peter Borley-Cox and seconded by Sue Evans. The meeting passed this motion.

## **Electoral Roll:**

## St. David:

The APCM were told that St David had a total of 25 members on their electoral roll. (A decrease of 2)

## St. John the Baptist:

The APCM were told that St John the Baptist had a total of 68 members on their electoral. roll. (A decrease of 9).

## St. Mark:

The APCM were told that St Mark had a total of 43 members on their electoral roll. (No change)

## **Revd. Alison Wagner’s Comments**

## **Rector's Comments:**

Revd. Canon Jane said her report was too in the booklet, but she wanted to extend a big thank you to everyone.

Revd. Canon Jane observed that there are many new groups running which give variety and makes the future exciting. Without these the parish would not operate. Rev. Canon Jane told the APCM that she wanted to leave the parish in a good position with plenty to look forward to. She concluded that the parish needs a strong commitment to God to make the parish move forward.

Rev. Canon Jane said that parish would be saying goodbye to Revd. Sara Lee, curate, in the near future. She wished her well for her future.

10

There would be an ordination to looked forward to in 2 years when Angie Kennedy gets ordained. She asked the parish to welcome her as she spends more time in the parish and getting involved with our activities.

## **Any Other Business:**

M Brame asked the PCC could pay for a subscription for “Go Chatter” for Brick Church.

Revd. Ali Wagner stated that St David’s will need official approval for the new disabled toilet. A £6k grant has been given to help fund this project.

Peter Borley-Cox asked for any new PCC members to give him their email addresses.

Sarah-Jane Major told the PCC that Chris Woodley would not be getting relicensed. This would mean that the lay team would be one member down. She asked for the APCM to consider and pray on this fact.

Revd. Canon Jane thanked Matthew Brennan for helping with signing at the PCC meetings.

## **KINGSTHORPE TEAM MINISTRY. ANNUAL PAROCHIAL CHURCH MEETING 2025 REPORTS.**

## **Rector’s Report 2024.**

This last year has been a very busy year within the parish, and positive year for the parish. Both with well-established services and activities and newer ones. We have also had new people at all three churches which has been a pleasure to see. Sadly we have also lost people from all three churches.

We have had a day away to look at what we have achieved and what we wanted to change. This was a very good day and much was taken forward. There was a good number from all of the churches.

The Sunday morning services remain at lower numbers post covid. But people are learning to work together and the team ethos is growing as we do more things together.

Brick church remains well with good numbers and I want to thank those who have now taken over

Woodland church also is in good health with a good number of varied age groups from young children to the elderly. This again being led by a team and headed up by Rev. Ali, and again my thanks to all concerned.

All other groups are working well and have got teams to lead them.

School work is going well. Especially at Whitehills School, there have been a number of visits to St Mark’s Church. All Saints School also has regular assemblies taken by the rector. I remain a governor at All Saints School.

13

The pastoral care in the parish has continued using a team of people, visiting both the house bound and those in nursing homes on a regular basis.

After 18 years Peter Borley-Cox finished as treasurer and Sue Evans took over. The finances continue to be in a difficult position, even though we are working to improve it. We have now got three card machines to encourage people especially visitors to use, as many don’t bring cash. This has shown an improvement. All the normal fund raising events happened with good results.

In May after three years curacy Jonathan and Sarah Lee left us as Jonathan got a new job in London. We wished them well in their new venture.

In April 2024 Angie came to us as an ordinand for her final year, She settled in very well and has done a large variety of parish work, and taking services to prepare her for ordination. Towards the end of June she decided with much consultation with others that she wanted to be considered for her curacy to be here at Kingsthorpe. This was agreed and has brought great joy to many in Kingsthorpe.

Lastly I would like to thank my team of Clergy and laity for all their work and support. Especially Revd. Ali, Angie, Sarah- Jane Chris, all the church wardens and teams, Sue and many more. My life would be much more difficult without you all.

Canon Jane

Flourish launched at Malcolm Arnold Academy in September- small group of children gathering with staff, Angie and Fiona Hailes, Chaplaincy Assistant.

There’s a lot going on! In the midst of it it’s easy to lose ourselves in activity or be buffeted by the next mini- crisis, boilers failing throughout the Autumn in St David’s was not my favourite thing. It is often the buildings, the finances and the procedures that take over and while these things matter, they only matter in as far as they serve the larger mission of the church. This is to share God’s love and the good news of Jesus’ wonderful saving grace with those in our precious communities.

One of my greatest joys this year has been taking the small groups, for Baptism and Confirmation and the Be Still course. That and the Weekend Parish Retreat at Highgate House. In these places we gather in smaller groups and grow in our understanding of faith with each other and the Holy Spirit. As our roots grow deeper in Christ so does our love for God and neighbour.

I have been taking part in two small groups myself. Bishop Debbie invited me and a cohort of fellow ministers to take part in a Leadership in Mission Course with CPAS. I am also training to be a Training Incumbent, so I am back in the classroom a couple of days each month. I have been very grateful for these opportunities. They come at a time when I am beginning to get some sort of overview of the parish but am rather unsure of the next steps to take as we seek to follow God’s will for the parish. I have a mentor

17

who meets with me each month to tease out my thinking and encourage me.

I am delighted that Angie will be joining us as a Curate in July. She has much to offer and her enthusiasm and curiosity have helped me to think about why I do what I do! Thank you Angie.

The supportive team environment with Revd. Canon Jane, SarahJane and Angie is particularly strong and I’ve been very grateful that we can lean on each other and pray together.

My work at the school is developing, relationships are growing and there are many opportunities to bless and encourage. The three day split mostly works but there is definitely a stretch at times and I sometimes feel I’m not doing either role well. However, in terms of being a public presence for Jesus you can’t get much more public than a secondary school!!

There are examples of God’s grace every day in Kingsthorpe and I am thankful for you all.

Revd. Ali

## **Deanery Synod Report.**

There have been four meetings of the Deanery Synod since our last APCM.

In June there were presentations from The Hope Centre and about divorce support groups in the Diocese.

The September meeting was attended by Bishop Debbie and was open to all. After a short Service there was a question and answer session with the Bishop.

The November meeting focused on the work of the Mothers Union and of the DAC.

In February Synod looked at various prayer initiatives in the Diocese.

In 2024 payments from parishes allowed the deanery to pay 79.85 of Parish Share to the diocese. Jenny Griffin.

## **PCC Secretary's Report**

The Parochial Church Council met six times in the 2024-25 parochial year. Officers were elected at the end of the annual meeting. All the meetings were quorate. All PCC meetings took place at St David’s church hall. Attendance was very good.

The main items of business across the year:

- The PCC did not manage to pay the Parish Share in full. However, the PCC were able to pay more of the parish share during the year. This was due to the reduced cost of utilities and no large purchases. (The decision was made in 2013 to pay the parish share in full as a priority, requiring regular fundraising events).

- The parish continued with its outreach activities with the continuation of Brick Church and Food for Thought, Woodland Church and the Bereavement Journey course.

- Safeguarding work took place to ensure the three churches, and the parish continued to be compliant in all aspects of safeguarding.

- The two curates Revd. Jonathan Lee and Revd. Sarah Lee left the parish.

Deanery Synod is attended regularly.

Core Groups remain and were able to meet regularly in person during the year, i.e., Pastoral Care, Nurture and Growth, Youth, and Mission. The decision was reluctantly reached to suspend the parish’s youth group.

Helen Hickman.

## **St. John the Baptist Churchwardens Report 2024**

We continued to hold Morning Prayer on Zoom on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at 9:00am. Other services continued throughout the year.

The 10:00am Sunday services were attended by between 18 and 86 people, with an average of 31 throughout 2024. Thursday morning 9:30am Holy Communion averaged about 4, with numbers between 3 and 5; this service is being held in the Chapter House through the winter months to save on heating costs.

At Easter we held services of Compline (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday), Maundy Thursday Eucharist with foot washing, the Good Friday three-hour devotion, Easter Eve, and Easter Day, all of which were well attended; with 70 on Easter Day.

The Church was open for Heritage Weekend this year, with the display of the “Chained Library” from the 16/17[th] centuries; and the Victorian Architect’s drawings from the 1863 restoration work on show. The annual “Ride & Stride” event went ahead on the Saturday. The annual Remembrance Service was held in November, with about 120 in church, followed by the Act of Remembrance at Kingsthorpe War Memorial. This service was well attended, with Kingsthorpe Scout Group joining us.

The Christmas Tree Festival was arranged for the start of December and was well attended and finished off with “Carols on the Green”, held inside church again this year. There were about two hundred people standing in church singing carols, with refreshments provided, although no fire-pits this year!

Over Christmas we held a Nine Lessons and Carols service (about 70 attended), a Crib Service (160), Midnight Mass (61) and Christmas Day Family Eucharist (30). We also hosted a Christingle Service within the church for the local Kingsthorpe Village Primary School with about 170 teachers, parents and children taking part. Brick Church has continued to flourish at St. John the Baptist Church throughout the year.

Mark Brame.

## **– St John the Baptist Fabric Report**

The fabric committee had one meeting in August although various matters were discussed via email throughout the year.

The lack of progress in relation to the Chapterhouse extension, quinquennial repairs or upgrading of the lightening conductor meant there was little to discuss at a formal meeting.

The key works considered by the committee during the year and their status is as follows:-

**Chapterhouse extension** . Due to the lack of progress with the faculty application and the expiration of the planning permission the project remains on hold.

**Quinquennial Works.** Despite several attempts to engage with the contractor no works have been carried out.

**Lightening Conductor.** No progress has been made in respect of upgrading the lightening conductor.

**A health and safety review** . Carried out regularly and updated as required.

**Annual servicing** . The clock, boilers, alarm systems and fire extinguishers were carried out.

**The trees and shrubs in the churchyard.** These have been trimmed regularly by the contractor working for the council.

**Organ** . The repairs to the organ were carried out and funded by donations.

Other works discussed by the committee were the condition of the notice boards in the porch and lighting on the paths. No action regarding theses has been taken.

There was one organised churchyard tidy-up in the year. The fabric committee would however like to thank those that have, as individuals, on occasion done some tidying up.

At the meeting Alan confirmed that he was stepping down as Chair of the Fabric Committee and that Carol was stepping down from the committee completely.

As no-one wished to take over the roles as Chair and Secretary, it was agreed that Jane would chair the meetings and that taking the minutes would be rotated amongst the committee members.

24

It was agreed that the committee should meet on the first Tuesday of each quarter and that if anything arose that needed to be dealt with it be done via email / video meeting or meeting.

Alan Isaac.

## **St Mark’s Churchwardens report**

## **Fabric of the Church**

The annual servicing of the boilers in the church and hall were carried out with no issues identified. All the appropriate checks to meet the fire regulations and electrical testing have also been undertaken.

The Fabric Committee meet bi-monthly and are continuing to work through the Quinquennial inspection from June 2023. This included the undercoating and painting of the three church windows facing onto the car park, rearranging the vestry furniture to help alleviate the damp on the west facing wall and covering off some of the items to be “checked”.

Four work mornings have been held throughout the year to keep the church, hall and gardens clean and tidy. Our grateful thanks go to the Fabric Committee and willing volunteers in the congregation who give up their time to help maintain our grounds and buildings.

## **General**

We held several parish events during the year enjoying fellowship and fun together. In June St Mark celebrated it’s 70[th] Birthday and we marked the occasion with a BBQ where 31 people attended. In September we welcomed the Cantare singers to church for a concert. 40 people attended and it was a great evening raising £716. Our thanks go to Ruth Gould for all her hard work arranging

25

this event. In October we enjoyed a Harvest Supper with games and quizzes which was attended by 29 people and raised £110 and in February we put on a Quiz Evening where 29 people came and £155 was raised. Thanks to all who helped to make these events possible. The money raised will go towards the larger projects identified on the Quinquennial report.

Sunday service attendance averages 30 and it’s been good to have some new faces join us. We welcomed Whitehills School children at Advent and Easter and for two Carol Services in December. We also held a Carol Service for the Scouts.

We held our annual Carols on the green service on 15[th] December beginning outside and then coming into the church. The Pipe Band also played outside at the beginning and end. This was well attended with 73 people. As usual the church was full for the Christingle service on Christmas Eve with 194 people attending. The collection at this service contributed to the £547 raised during the year for the Children’s Society.

Being new Churchwardens we attended a Churchwarden Training Day at Bouverie Court in November which was very enlightening with lots of useful information.

A big thank you to everyone who helps in any way, we are truly grateful for your support and prayers.

## **Report from the Lay Pastoral Minister 2024/25.**

This was a busy and rewarding year, church work, pastoral care had not stopped, it was if anything even busier in a different way with new initiatives. In addition, St Mark’s Church Prayer request and concerns again were well up year on year.

27

They are fed into the Lay Minister and sent out to the group, numbering over 14 including Clergy strictly adhering to the content of the request.

Care home communions continued, Personal external communion and individual home communion continued, via the Lay Minister and thanks to the curates and Sarah Jane in helping across the Parish. Personally over 60 home communions have been carried out over the past year all regularly receive communion at least once a month i.e. the elderly and house bound who are very grateful. However, some have now been moved out into other parishes and with our relationship with other parishes are able to hand this over.

It is necessary to be re-licenced as a Lay Minister in Sept 2025 for another 5 years. With regret I have decided to step down before that date. however a constant review is undertaken by Rev Jane whereby individually as ministers and Lay Ministers, St Mark still operate a prayer triplet which was and is carrying on although it is down to one triplet meeting once a month.

Fun & Faith continues to operate, live and the youngsters have great fun along with some varied ethical, faith, theological topics prayer and teaching. Thanks to Kathy, Sarah Jane, Rev Sarah, and Rev Johnathan and our new addition Becky Adnitt keeping this worthwhile Ministry at St David. The youth enjoyed an outing at Wicksteed Park and the bowling alley and the Pancake Day, was also carried out. Thanks to Johnathan Hunt in baking again, and to all that help to make this another success.

Food for thought, continues to thrive with good numbers, food and Christian content. There is plenty on offer in the Parish. However, I would encourage you all where you would always be welcome at this initiative It might be that you would be interested in leading or taking on a roll however small, if only on an ad hoc basis, if so, discuss this with one of the Ministers or Church wardens.

With the Mission meeting we had a while ago there were many ideas, we now have the impetus to do some, let us all work together and harness all our gifts that good Lord has provided.

28

House groups and courses, alternative services are on offer to all regardless of your ability or standing, you don’t have to be an academic we can all learn from each other to increase our faith and share our experiences.

In addition, as a Pastoral resource I am involved, in addition with Revd. Sarah involvement, Sarah Jane with Whitehills Primary school I support them with such items as Experience Easter, Advent, Church etc and a great time is had by all.

I wish it to be noted that I am extremely grateful for the help and support of other members of the congregation and Team Clergy that people in our community are cared for. The pastoral needs are well covered at St Mark and across the Team as a whole. Blessings on you all.

Chris Woodley, (LPM)

## **Safeguarding Report**

Safeguarding continues to be central to our culture within the Kingsthorpe Team Ministry. The Safeguarding Officer reports at each Parochial Church Council meeting re the progress of our aims within a Safer Church. The Peterborough Diocese Dashboard ensures that all are informed as to the level of achievements to date. Currently working at L3 of Mandatory Requirements. The Diocese have introduced over the past 12 months Safeguarding Standards which the PCC and church membership will work towards over the next three years.

The Safeguarding team ensure that all are aware of their responsibilities regarding DBS and training which is also renewable every three years. A Parish Safeguarding overview training is delivered to all PCC, Hall activity volunteers and Parishioners annually.

Our churches display relevant information on the outside of our buildings and within the church and hall rooms giving clear

29

information of how to contact the Safeguarding team to report safeguarding breaches.

Thanks are extended to Karen and Mandy for their continued eyes, ears and voices in their relevant churches within the parish. We meet quarterly to update and share information to ensure a continuous safe place to be.

Jane Serbyn (Parish Safeguarding Officer)

## **Flourish** .

Flourish is a Church of England funded pilot to grow intergenerational worshipping communities within schools. Malcolm Arnold Academy is one of 40 schools taking part in the project and only one of 4 in the diocese.

We had to seek approval from the PCC, the school governors and the diocese. Our funding enabled us to employ Fiona Hailes for 12 hours a week.

It has been quite an interesting journey. A lot of extra training and input from the C of E addressing many things including the complexity of safeguarding in a secondary school. Currently we have 8 core members in the student body and several staff who pop in and out. We began meeting fortnightly and changed to weekly after school on Wednesdays as the students requested.

There are always good snacks and then time to check in with each other, share something from the Bible, apply that to our lives and to pray. This takes many forms week by week. It feels like a tender plant at the moment. Please pray for our students that we will learn to grow together in faith and begin to bless the school. We have begun to do that through recorded assemblies and the planting of wildflowers in the courtyard. Revd. Ali

## **Kingsthorpe Mothers Union Report**

Another year has gone by. It has been heartwarming to meet regularly, enjoying each other's company and listening to some excellent speakers. We welcomed the deanery for the Ladies Day service in March. Instead of a summer outing this year, we enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea where we invited the local community to join us. It was a lovely afternoon; the hall was full. A big thank you to all those who contributed to the refreshments. The Christmas lunch is always a highlight of the year and it didn’t disappoint, we all enjoyed a hearty lunch at the Olde Cobbler. For this year’s Christmas Tree Festival, it was decided that instead of advertising MU we would use it as an opportunity to highlight one of the campaigns that we support, an end to domestic abuse.

The dedicated small committee met throughout the year, kept me in check, and stood in to lead meetings that I could not attend this year. A personal thank you to Jane S and her excellent organising skills, Andrea for managing the accounts Pauline for arranging our speakers and Anne for sending out cards.

Our ladies continue to give of their time and Christian fellowship at Baptisms. Thank you, Pauline Gothard, for organising the team and Eileen who now sends cards to each family. The clergy and families really value your input at these very important and special services. The children especially love receiving the teddies that I know that many of you knit.

As we move into the new year we look forward to meeting together, sharing the values of Mothers Union with each other, learning together about the influences and hardships that families face in this country and further afield. As you know most of the committee including myself is standing down and hopefully, we will welcome a new committee to lead us into the future.

We have welcomed some new members to our group but with sadness we said our final goodbyes to Peggy Ingleton, Margaret

31

Glover, Ursula Skelly and Jean Bull, they will be missed but remembered with affection.

As your branch leader I thank you for your support and prayers and as we move into a new year thank you for your commitment and support of such a wonderful organisation and long may we continue to uphold the aims and goals of the worldwide Mothers Union.

Sarah – Jane Major Branch Leader

## **St John the Baptist Choir Report**

With the inevitable consequences of the passage of time and in the absence of new recruits, the choir’s ability to contribute to the regular Sunday services is somewhat limited. However, with the help of singers from St David and St Mark and former members of the SJB choir we were able to contribute more significantly to worship around Christmas and Easter, in particular the traditional Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, which in 2024 was attended by a record number of people since 2020. An augmented choir has also enhanced the wedding ceremonies of several couples, an important part of the church’s outreach. This summer will see the departure of Rachael, who is about to complete her studies at Northampton University. We thank her for her contribution over the last three years and wish her well for the future. We hope Tony, absent for some months due to ill health, will rejoin us soon.

Regarding the organ, our organ builder generously decided not to charge us for the remedial work undertaken early in 2024. This goodwill, in conjunction with a legacy dedicated to the music at SJB, has enabled us to undertake the necessary further work mentioned in my report in 2024 without recourse to the church’s general finances. This work hasn’t fully bedded in and adjustments will be made during this summer (within the contract price).

32

Finally, I’d like to thank all members of the choir for their continued loyalty. My thanks also go to Laura who helps with the anthem whenever she is able and to Robert for assisting with choir practices. Similarly to Robert and Andrew for deputising when I am unavailable for services.

Ian Smith, Organist.

## **St John the Baptist Flowers Arrangers Report**

In 2024 we continued with our efforts to be more sustainable and again are using different containers and trying not to use floral foam.

We have again been trying to use home grown flowers and foliage in some of our arrangements.

We have done flower arrangements for the weddings and special celebrations that have taken place at St John the Baptist church during the year.

Our tree for the Christmas Tree Festival was a poinsettia tree with fresh poinsettia plants and silk flowers.

Thank you to all those who have given towards the cost of flowers throughout the year either for special occasions, in memory of someone or just as donations.

We would also like to thank all who have arranged flowers or helped in any way especially at Easter and Christmas.

Pauline Stone, Carol Isaac, Jenny Griffin.

33

## **St Mark’s Flower Fund Report**

We have continued to have a mixture of real and artificial silk flowers, depending on the season, at St Mark during 2024. Members of the church have been generous in their donations towards paying for the flowers and we have £147. 90p in the flower fund at the end of 2024.

Ruth Gould.

## **RENEW 88 Well-being (St Davids)**

Over the past year this group has enjoyed a growth in membership and activity (currently 34). Each week activities are presented enabling users to participate in a range of craft experiences. Many bring their own hobbies sharing their knowledge and enjoyment. Projects have ensued within the Knit and Natter group including knitted dolls, crosses and hearts which are placed around the local community with a message from the church.

During the session meditation, monthly mass and a quiet space is offered. Its motto ‘It’s ok not to be ok’ shares the message that support, fellowship and guidance is central to its mission.

This year we have received grants from Kingsthorpe Parish Council and Kingsthorpe Town and Manor Trust to help with resourcing materials and providing the weekly soup lunch. Jane Serbyn (Group Lead).

34

## **- Renew Family 0 5s Café (St David)**

Families have enjoyed fellowship over the past year including wellbeing opportunities. The group encourages parents to enjoy each other’s company and engage in a support network.

Activities provide learning experiences for children aged between 0-5 where they also play with other young children as well as their parent.

Parents have enjoyed evening meals provided by the group volunteers twice a year. This has enabled mums to have time out for themselves.

We have received grants from West Northants Wellness fund, Kingsthorpe Parish Council and Kingsthorpe Town and Manor Trust to help with our activity. Over the past year we have visited Westlodge Farm.

Thanks are always expressed to our steadfast volunteers who continue to give of their time, creativity and experience.

Jane Serbyn (Group Lead).

35

## **Little Stars**

Little Stars meet during term time on Tuesdays, 1:30pm - 3pm at St Mark’s church. We run thanks to a dedicated rotating team of 8 volunteers. Our numbers vary week to week between 8-15 babies, toddlers and preschoolers with their grownups. Having a

consistent meeting place, (Little Stars used to alternate between St John the Baptist and St Mark,) has helped our attendance as families know where we are each week.

Our sessions usually start with a craft that is connected to our theme, followed by singing, including our song of thanks and our blessing. The session then moves to free flow play and refreshments before tidy up time.

We have covered a range of topics in the last twelve months, with favourites being Noah’s ark, The Nativity and our yearly wet play session in the garden. Little Stars has participated in other Parish initiatives such as supporting the St David’s food bank with Harvest and Christmas collections and recently we made daffodils to celebrate St David’s day.

I would like to thank our amazing volunteers that help each week with setting up, providing and serving refreshments, crafting with and playing music for our Little Stars, we could not run without you. I would also like to say thank you and goodbye to our curate Revd. Sarah Lee who originally launched Little Stars but left us in 2024.

As our Little Stars blessing says; God guard us, God love us, God bless us. Amen.

Jessica Carey - Little Stars Co-ordinator.

36

## **Brick Church**

Firstly, we would like to say a huge **thank you** to our helpers that turn up every month with great enthusiasm, to set up, provide and prepare food and stay to help clear away. In 2024 we said thank you and goodbye to our Curates Jonathan & Sarah Lee. We meet at St John the Baptist Church, 2[nd] Sunday of each month 2pm – 4pm.

We regularly have 19 children join us with their parents, grandparents and neighbours.

The afternoon format is usually a quick mini build as families arrive, a themed Bible story, a short video and then let our imaginations run wild for our main builds. After our show and tell, we then enjoy a tea in the chapter house.

Andrea & Mark Brame.

## **Woodland Church**

Throughout the year, Woodland Church has met monthly from January to November for a nature walk through Bradlaugh Fields to connect with the seasons and Creation as we explore faith in a modern, family friendly way. Partly outside and partly inside the wonderful community space of Bradlaugh Fields Barn, we are able to meet in all weathers. Woodland church is a chance to slow down, connect and create in an environment that suits and welcomes all ages. We chat, play and pray as we go, taking reflective pauses to hear God speaking to us through the changing of the seasons and the beauty of the natural world. The monthly themes for our sessions have included Harvest, Transformation and New Growth and we have typically welcomed about 20 people to our meetings.

We have always taken time to look for natural treasures and have collected across the seasons an array of beautiful leaves, fruits, petals, conkers, feathers and twigs. Rather less beautiful are the

37

20 sacks of rubbish that we have collected this year on our litterpicks as we wander from St David's Church over to Bradlaugh Fields, but we hope that we have left the fields cleaner and safer for people, pets and wildlife alike.

Creative activities have been a much-loved element of our meetings, giving everyone the opportunity to go home with something they have crafted themselves to keep or give. Activities have ranged from making birdfeeders, to folding origami snowdrops, to making finger-paintings with blackberry juice. Our craft activities have been accompanied by soft drinks and homemade treats thanks to the hospitality of The Barn team and the culinary gifts of our team of bakers.

We welcome anyone who would like to join us on our Woodland Church wanderings in 2025. We usually meet on the third Sunday of the month January to November at 2 pm outside St David’s Church to walk to Bradlaugh Fields, or at 2.15pm at the playground entrance to Bradlaugh Fields off Fulford Drive.

## **Bloom Group Report**

Bloom has been meeting monthly since January 2024. Many of our parish activities take place during the day so often are not accessible to people who are working. Bloom is intended to be a social group for women, who may be working during the day. We meet at the Queen Adelaide pub in Kingsthorpe Village offering friendship and fellowship in a relaxed atmosphere. Our numbers vary but on average we have 6-8 people attending each month.

Karen Tomlin.

## **Kingsthorpe Churches Together Report 2024**

The year began with a joint service for the week of prayer for Christian Unity on the 16th January at St Mark’s church which was attended by members of the congregation from all the churches in KCT. The retiring collection raised £258 for the St David’s Food Bank. The AGM was held on Tuesday the 30[th] of January at St Mark’s church hall followed by the ordinary meeting. Representatives then met twice more in May and October. The World Day of Pray was held on Friday the 1st of March 7.30 in the Baptist church but was sadly not well attended and there were more people taking part than attending. St Aidan’s offered an open invitation to everyone to attend any one of their Stations of the Cross Services during Lent. Mothers Union also invited people to their service. The service for Good Friday 29[th] March was held in St Aidan’s followed by the Walk of Witness to the Baptist Church Hall where the final blessing was said and refreshments served, thanks to Dawn and her team. 75 people attended the service. Pentecost in the Park was held in Abington Park on the 19[th] of May and some members from the Kingsthorpe parish attended. Ecumenical Prayer Lunches commenced in February from 1213.00 in the Baptist Church Hall. The lunches were held monthly apart from August, December and January and attended by a small number of people. In December members from the congregations joined to sing Carols outside Waitrose led by Revd. Ali. Refreshments were served in the Baptist church hall and although there were about 25-30 people singing only a few returned to chat and enjoy the refreshments. We said goodbye to Revd. Sarah in May as she and Revd. Jonathon came to the end of their curacy and took up a post at St Pancras church in London. Father Daniel has joined the team at the Roman Catholic Cathedral with responsibility for St Aidan’s. Sue and Adrian Evans from St Mark have joined KCT as representatives. ## **The Friends of Kingsthorpe Pocket Park Committee**

The Friends of Kingsthorpe New Churchyard Pocket Park continue to meet at 10 am every Saturday between March and October to maintain and improve this old cemetery with the aim of providing a quiet area of green space within the village.

The group of active volunteers is small so work is focused on keeping the paths in order and cutting back brambles, nettles and other fast growing plants to allow space for planted bulbs and other plants to thrive.

The Park currently contains a large active badger sett. Care is taken not to disturb the badgers. The Park now has three ironframed benches with recycled plastic slats. Children from Kingsthorpe Village Primary School use the park one day per week for nature trails and woodland observations. They get much pleasure from seeing the plants grow and the many birds nesting in the bird boxes. Dog walkers regularly use the Park. All dogs must now be on leads.

The Friends are confident local residents value this area and the new seating is much appreciated.

Mandy Bentley.

Various members of the PCC support the life of the Parish through sub-groups, i.e., Pastoral Care, Nurture and Growth, Youth activity and Mission.

Deanery Synod representation after the annual meeting was 1 person. (The electoral roll allows for 5 positions).

The Parish was unable to pay the Parish Share in full in 2024. The PCC did not have any large capital expenses during the year and with the reduced cost of utilities, larger percentage of the parish share was paid to the diocese.

The Parish Office, with a Team Co-ordinator and voluntary assistance, continues to be an important asset.

Mrs Jane Serbyn is the Parish Safeguarding Officer. She has ensured that across the team on-line training has been undertaken where individuals have access to the technology to do so. She provided regular updates to the Parochial Church Council.

42

The Team has representatives to the local Kingsthorpe Village Conservation Group, Pocket Park Committee, Kingsthorpe Churches Together and St. David's Community Association. The Community Café at St. David's was able to reopen. St David’s have been running a successful and well used foodbank.

Fabric matters are dealt with regularly at all churches. The redevelopment of the Chapter House at St. John the Baptist has stalled due to the planning permission expiring.

## **INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT**

## **TO KINGSTHORPE PCC, NORTHAMPTON**

This report on the financial statements of the PCC for the year ended 31 December 2024 which are set out on pages 1 to 3, is in respect of an examination carried out in accordance with the Church Accounting Regulations 2006 (“the Regulations”) and Section 144 (2) of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).

## **Respective responsibilities of the PCC and the examiner**

As the members of the PCC, you are responsible for the preparation of financial statements and assessing the PCC’s ability to continue as a going concern, disclosing, as applicable, matters related to going concern and using the going concern basis of accounting unless required overwise.

You consider that the audit requirement of Regulations and section 144(2) of the Act do not apply and that an independent examination is needed. In 2024 the Charity’s gross income did not exceed £250,000 and I am qualified to undertake the examination by being a qualified member of The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. It is my responsibility to issue this report on those financial statements in accordance with the terms of the regulations.

## **Basis of this report**

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission under Section 145(5)(b) of the Act and to be found in the Church guidance, 2006 edition, issued by the Finance Division of the Archbishops’ Council. That examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the PCC and a comparison of the accounts with those records. It also includes considering any unusual items or disclosures in the financial statements and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

## **Independent examiner’s report**

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

- (1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements

   - to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the Act, and

   - to prepare financial statements, which accord with the accounting records and comply with the requirements of the Act and Regulations have not been met; or

- (2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
