The Parish was unable to pay the Parish Share in full in 2020. Regrettably any fund-raising efforts were curtailed due to the restrictions of the pandemic and its various lockdowns.
The Parish Office, with a Team Co-ordinator and voluntary assistance, continues to be an important asset.
Mrs Jane Serbyn is the Parish Safeguarding Officer. She has ensured that across the team on-line training has been undertaken where individuals have access to the technology to do so.
The Team has representatives to the local Kingsthorpe Village Conservation Group, Pocket Park Committee, Kingsthorpe Churches Together and St. David's Community Association. The Community Café at St. David's had to close during this last year due to the pandemic. St David’s have been running a very successful and well used foodbank.

KINGSTHORPE CHURCHES TOGETHER REPORT 2020/21
We held our AGM on Tuesday 14th January 2020 Kate Billson, Janet Taylor and Brenda Winterburn were all standing down from their positions. There was a great deal of discussion about how KCT should continue to function now that there were no immediate offers to replace positions. It was agreed that there needed to be a further presence of KCT locally but it was decided that there would be no more formal meetings except the AGM and for this purpose the following positions on the committee were filled:
CHAIR – Ruth Gould, Vice-Chair- Maureen, Secretary – Jean, Treasurer – Denise, Auditor – Trevor. We managed to have two further Ecumenical lunch meetings in February 2020 and March2020 but no further meetings since then due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

KINGSTHORPE POCKET PARK
Volunteers for the Pocket Park have met up and worked at a safe distance when allowed by the Covid restrictions and government guidelines have been followed.
Funds were gained by running a plant stall and a donation was received from the Manor Trust to buy a new seat for the Park this Summer. Volunteers are always welcome on Saturday morning 10-12. The park continues to provide a little sanctuary during these difficult times and has been much appreciated by the local community.

PARISH MEETING :
The Minutes of the meeting held on 19[th] April 2018 , were signed as a true record after one correction. All persons present were in favour.
Appointment of Safeguarding Officer:
Jane Serbyn and Mandy Bentley will share this position for the Team.
Finance:
Sue Evans explained the accounts. The loss of income in the 2018 financial year was largely down to the absence of wedding services. Each of the churches has taken a fresh look at their income and expenditure. We were only able to pay approximately £79,000 of the Parish Share leaving a shortfall of £25,000. The Treasurer has signed off the accounts.
Appointment of Independent Examiner:
In the Treasurer's absence, it is assumed that Roger Cobley of Cobley Desborough will continue this work. A year's notice of any change to this arrangement is required on both sides, and none has been given.
Electoral Roll:
St. David's roll stands at 42: 3 died but 9 new members.
(Electoral Roll Officer – Pat Raybould). St. John the Baptist stands at 90: two teeneagers become 16 during the course of the year. . (Electoral Roll Officer – Jenny Griffin)
St. Mark stands at 43: a reduction of 2.
(Electoral Roll Officer – Ken Sumbler)
Fabric and other reports have been published, and are available for inspection. The application for planning permission for the extension at St. John the Baptist has gone forward.
Team Vicar's Comments: In Rachel's absence, her report, as published, was read out.

Comments from Revd. Canon Margaret Johnson: Margaret was enjoying her time working with the St. Mark's congregation. She thought everything was very orderly!
Rector's Comments:
Revd. Jane thought the Team was in good shape. Congregations were growing, staffing was better, and we had a new Curate. “Brick Church” will take place every first Sunday of the month from 2-4pm. Clearly the cash flow problem needs to be addressed.
KINGSTHORPE MOTHERS UNION

Branch Leader Mrs Eileen Pitney Branch Secretary Mrs Jane Serbyn Treasurer Mrs Paddy Coles
Committee members:
Thanks were expressed to the Lay Team and the Clergy for their continuing hard work.
Any Other Business: Various questions were put to the meeting from the floor, specifically about wastage of paper, and the loss of information. Other comments reflected the upbeat impression from the reports. The need to increase giving is crucial. A vote of thanks to the Rector and Secretary was made.
Date of 2019 Annual Meeting:
Thursday, 2[nd] April 2020 at 7.30pm at St. Mark's Church.
This ended the business of the Annual Parochial Church Meeting.

Due to the Pandemic, we have been unable to hold meetings, with the exception of the two held in March.
Member have been kept in touch by email, telephone and/or letters. Information re the National and world-wide Mothers Union was also shared regularly. This information was received from Mary Sumner House Headquarters, the Peterborough Diocese and the Deanery Leader. During the time when the churches were able to open Rev Rachel Hetherington led two services at St David’s church. In September we were able to celebrate the Mothers Union Annual Wave of Prayer. In November we had a quiet service of reflection for Advent.
We report that three long standing members have died. Mrs Beryl Dron, Mrs Doris Williams and Mrs Mary Cheer. They have been sadly missed by us all.
Eileen Pitney, Branch Leader
PARISH HOUSE GROUPS
Over the past year the Parish House groups have met when Government and Diocese regulations allow. They have remained in dialogue with their hosts and Zoom meetings have been possible. A variety of topics have been decided upon by those who attend and have created opportunity for discussion and learning.
Individual groups have engaged in an Advent period of reflection. Many of the members attended the Zoom Lent course led by Bishop Donald. We

RENEW 88 WELLBEING GROUP
This support group was formed in February 2019 with the regular support of volunteers. It is a space where it is ok not to be ok. A place to find a warm welcome, friendship and support.
The St David’s Renew 88 Wellbeing has been meeting on Wednesdays during the Pandemic as a support group. On occasions it has been necessary to pause the face-to-face group meetings in favour of a weekly parcel drop and individual support meeting on the doorstep. During this time also the offer of weekly Zoom meetings has been taken up by some members as a regular way of keeping in touch. Parcels contained a craft activity, prayer and meditation materials and refreshment. Recipient’s feedback has been encouraging during these isolating periods.
The sessions include sharing of expertise and gifts in hobbies and personal caring and encouragement. Various activities are available, and a spiritual prayer and meditation space is included. Sessions conclude with a time of reflection and prayer.
A small grant was received from the Councillor Empowerment fund which will be used to purchase resources and to contribute to the cost of the hall. Other funding is being sought to enable future projects. Despite the restrictions of Covid 19 it has been a most enjoyable group which has steadily grown throughout the year. Members have found fellowship and relaxation. Currently there are fifteen attendees which includes members from the ‘Knit & Natter’ group. Information can be found on our Facebook page.

ST DAVID’S TIME FOR TOTS
This group of Parents and children 0-5 has had another successful year. In September some of our youngsters started school, however our numbers have again increased and many of our children are now between 0-3. During the Pandemic, our meetings have been sporadic, sometimes closed and when open have been necessary to limited numbers. We are currently meeting under Government regulations as a group of max 15. Risk Assessments are carried out as regulations change.
Since the last APCM we have been unable to enjoy a varied activity programme but still parents have appreciated the opportunity to retain some form of contact either through our Facebook page or by text messages.

RECTOR’S REPORT
When I look back on 2019’s report my report was in the main positive across the team. There was no way that we could have known what 2020 would have been like to the country or to the church.
Because of the COVid pandemic much of what has been spoken about in the past was not able to happen in 2020. Across the team there have been many changes to maintain mission and ministry to those we serve. The church buildings were closed for most of the year apart from a short time when they were open in the middle of the year. At points when they were closed to services they were open for private prayer. The churches were closed at Christmas with the agreement of Bishop Donald and were not open again until Easter Day 2021. This happened in all three churches. Funerals were allowed with a limited number of 30 guests. These happened as required. There were no baptisms or weddings after March. We took to doing services online and we are very thankful to Revd Denise’ expertise making this possible so that they could be seen on YouTube or Zoom. We also had Coffee Zoom so the people from all three congregations could meet up. It was a good time to catch up with people and to have fun.
There were also various systems rolled out in the churches to keep an eye on those who were vulnerable at home or continue to be in care homes. As time went on schools were kept in contact with, as were our young people and other groups in the various churches.
Because of the churches been closed we lost a lot of income making what we could pay to the diocese even less than previously. This continues to be very worrying. Even though lack of money is affecting many churches this year. We will need to address this issue if we are going to remain viable with the number of clergy that would be liked.

I would like to thank the many laity that went more than the extra mile to care for people, help the clergy and to do as much as possible within this situation.
Lastly I would like to thank Revd Rachel, Revd Stuart, and Revd Denise for all their work and support during a very difficult time .
Lastly I would like to wish Revd Denise well in her new appointment as Rector of the Harrowdens Benefice. Thank her for all she has done during her curacy.
Revd Canon Jane Butler.
ST JOHN THE BAPTIST FLOWERS ARRANGERS ANNUAL REPORT 2020
In early March 2020 the flower arrangers spent a morning discussing and practising flower arrangements made using methods other than oasis blocks.
During the pandemic very little has happened.
Once the church was opened for private prayer small flower arrangements were done at home and put in the lady chapel. Flowers were also arranged for the funerals of members of our congregation.
TEAM VICAR’S ANNUAL REPORT FOR ST DAVID’S CHURCH 2020
This year’s annual report is very different to the ones I have written previously because of the effect of the coronavirus pandemic on our church and community. Much of the year the church has been in lockdown and many of our events and activities have been cancelled or postponed. October 2020 was the 80[th] anniversary since the consecration of St David’s and we would have been celebrating in style with a 1940’s weekend had it not been cancelled due to social distancing restrictions. However, the life of the church has continued in different ways and our Christian witness challenged to use technology to stay together as a community. We have learnt to use Zoom or Youtube to enable worship and gone back to good old-fashioned letters and phone calls to provide pastoral support. Between the lockdowns we were able to hold some church services with social distancing and some of our support groups like Wednesday Renew 88 Wellbeing and Time for Tots were able to meet in the Church hall with a limit of 15 people attending. Many thanks to Jane Serbyn, Ann Woodley and Pat Raybould for keeping these groups going in difficult circumstances.
The 4U Community Café has been unable to operate since 17[th] March 2020 but in its place a Food Bank was started to help people in the early days of the pandemic when people were unable to work or placed on furlough. Although this was initially intended to be a three-month temporary Food Bank funded by the Covid crisis money the demand has been so great that further funding was sort to continue to help families in need. There are now over 200 families registered, each receiving a weekly food parcel. Many thanks go to Cheryll Lowe, John Willis, June Ward, Mandy Bentley, Pauline Stone, Sara Blenkharn, Shirley Basford, Sarah-Jane Major, Jane Serbyn, Dillys Wooding, Sandra Rivett, Henry Rivett, Arthur Newbury and the rest of the dedicated team (whose names I might have missed) for doing an amazing job.
Looking to the future now that the church has reopened simpler flower arrangements are being done. Flowers are also being done for the weddings that will be taking place.
If anyone would be interested in joining the flower arrangers please contact either Pauline Stone or Carol Isaac.
Thank you to all those who have arranged flowers and all who have supported them.
Pauline Stone, Carol Isaac
ST MARK’S FLOWER FUND REPORT
We have continued only asking for donations at Festival times and we have managed to provide flowers every Sunday, except for the summer months when we have placed silk arrangements in church because of the extremely hot conditions in the building.
At the end of 2019 the account stood at £114.43 cash in hand. At the end of 2020 the account stood at £146.43. Following my request for donations at the beginning of April this year the account now stands at £189.63.
My thanks to those who have made donations and also to Ruth who helps with the arrangements.

Subsequently and regrettably, this difficult situation was exacerbated by the church’s decision to furlough Andrew. Many other churches with a professional Director of Music recorded individual voices remotely and stitched them together into a full ensemble, using the resulting virtual recordings within virtual Sunday worship. This would have been undertaken in our parish but for Andrew being furloughed and any such work thus prohibited. For the same reason, it was no longer possible to continue the virtual choir practices, which is likely to have played at least some part in a decline in interest from several of our young people, and which also delayed the reintroduction of the choir to live worship when the lockdown was lifted.
The choir did finally return for Harvest Festival and sang at Sunday services through to late December (the November lockdown excepted) when we put on our traditional festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, albeit somewhat modified due to the ban on congregational singing. This was a splendid final service under Andrew’s leadership as he left us to take up an expanded role with the Royal School of Church Music. During the year, two of our treble choristers achieved their RSCM Silver Award despite the tribulations of the covid restrictions, so congratulations go to Honey Whitmore and Amber Welham for this excellent result. Looking forward, whilst we await a new Director of Music, I have reinstated Friday rehearsals of the full choir with appropriate social distancing as per the guidelines to enable the resumption of singing at services. Two former basses have re-joined us; welcome back Robin McAllister and Tony Popple! Nevertheless, the outlook for the choir is uncertain. The disruption to the cycle of rehearsals and services and the government restrictions on Andrew’s ability to provide leadership during furlough took their toll on the morale of many choir members and three of our young people have not returned. This will leave our upper voices materially under strength when our two most senior choristers go to university in September. Furthermore, the continued suspension of the Tuesday training sessions for trebles due to the lack of a suitably qualified choir trainer, limits our ability to attract and retain young people through the RSCM awards scheme. The choir is an important vehicle for outreach to young people and their families; that it thrives is thus of wider importance than its simple contribution to Sunday worship.
Finally, I’m sure I speak for the whole choir in thanking Andrew for his musicianship, leadership and friendship over many years as Director of Music, and in wishing him well in the future. We shall equally miss Siobhan from the alto line.
Our ministry with children and young people has been a bit sporadic this year! However, we have been able to keep in touch with our Sunday School children by providing goodie bags and activity packs. Also, the Wednesday evening youth club and the Monday evening football coaching provided by NTFC was able to meet for some sessions last year. Perhaps, the most difficult area of ministry in 2020 has been in regard to funerals. During the first lockdown funerals could only be attended by 10 people and in recent months 30 people. Arranging funerals and working with grieving families has been emotional demanding at times as so many families have struggled to cope with their loss during this pandemic. I realise that it has been especially hard for our St David’s church family to mourn the loss of three of our regular and loved church members. This year we said goodbye to Beryl Dron, Margaret York, and Doris Williams. May they rest in peace.
Church finances have always been an area of concern but St David’s did see a rise in giving during 2019 following the implementation of the new Planned Giving Scheme. Also, numbers attending church regularly rose to an average of 39 adults plus 7 children each week. However, the effect of the Covid pandemic on the income from our hall lettings is severe with a loss of approx. £7500 during 2020. These figures are reflected in the accounts for this year.
In the wider life of the Church outside of the parish, I completed my year as honorary Chaplain to the Mayor of Northampton in May 2020 which was very enjoyable. I also continue to serve as a member of the Deanery Synod standing committee and I was also appointed a trustee of St Christopher’s Care home by Bishop Donald in 2019.
Whilst this year has been tough in many ways, I still give thanks for ministry at St David’s and for the ways in which the church continues to show God’s love and reach out to those in the community. It continues to make the most of missional opportunities and share in the building of God’s Kingdom within the Kingsthorpe Parish. Thanks to Revd Jane and Revd Denise and all the lay team for sharing in that ministry.
My thanks also go to those who represent St David’s on the PCC and to June Ward and Becky Adnitt for always being supportive and dedicated Churchwardens.

CURATE’S REPORT
2019
One of the highlights of this year was my Priesting at the Cathedral in June. It was lovely to share the day with many from the parish. One of the loveliest moments was when I was feeling particularly nervous and I looked across and saw lots of friendly faces from the parish which helped ease my nerves!
Brick church continued monthly on Sunday afternoons. Brick church was slow to gather momentum but has brought together people on the fringes of church that would not normally come on a Sunday morning. A regular group of people now come together each month and we are hoping to be able to build on that.
Tuesday evening Café church came to a natural end due to lack of interest however the group that regularly came wanted to stay together so we completed the Bible Society’s Bible Course. Everyone enjoyed the course very much and we all learnt something new about the bible. When the course finished we moved on to the Bible Society’s Book Club. Each month we read a book of the bible and then come together to discuss what we had read. We have been working our way through some of the Old Testament books.
Village Coffee Stop ran throughout the Summer and we had a number of regular visitors who stopped by for coffee, cake and a chat. In October we decided to close the doors for the Autumn because visitor numbers had dropped significantly and the colder weather meant we were unable to keep the doors physically open like we had in the Summer.
Pastoral visiting continued in 2019 with regular home communion visits.
Schools work also continued and relationships built up with them through assemblies.
House groups are on offer to all regardless of your ability or standing, and we strongly recommend that, as church goers in Team, you take advantage of this great resource, plenty of opportunities on all days and time so there can be no excuse that you can’t make some time if only for the fellowship. You don’t have to be an academic we can all learn from each other to increase our faith and share our experiences.
We wish it to be noted that Margaret and Chris are extremely grateful for the help and support of other members of the congregation and Team Clergy that people in our community are cared for. The pastoral needs are well covered at St Marks and across the Team as a whole. God Bless you all Chris Woodley, Margaret Gorringe
KINGSTHORPE TEAM MINISTRY SAFEGUARDING
Since the last APCM there have been no Safeguarding issues identified in the parish. Regular updates have been presented in a report to the PCC meetings. A diary of Parish Safeguarding Officer’s actions is kept by the Lead Parish Officer.
The Safeguarding team have updated the Diocese Parish Dashboard, encouraged PCC members to update their Safeguarding training and responded to policies as they came up for renewal.
Trainings covered are: Safer Recruitment, Safeguarding at a variety of levels as proportionate to individual job descriptions and nature of the work. DBS certificates have been kept up to date as necessary. Due to the Pandemic training for some roles, i.e. Children’s workers, has not been able to proceed. This will be a priority once Government guidelines make it possible to meet indoors in groups.

ST JOHN THE BAPTIST CHOIR REPORT
As with all group activities, the last twelve months have been very difficult for the choir.
Initially, Andrew Moodie (our then Director of Music) held virtual choir practices using the parents’ accounts on Messenger and with their permission and supervision. These allowed engagement musically with, and socially between, the young people. New music was learned, as well as known pieces being revised. Andrew also recorded voluntaries for the online service and a choral item with Francesca remotely.

communicating as to the welfare of their group and across groups by phone or e mail. Online worship was introduced or worship at home booklets, daily bible readings etc. Thanks to Liz and Revds Denise, Jane and Rachel and our Lay Ministers and other who made this possible and to all those spirited volunteers delivering personally to those who were housebound or shielding.
As a result of the ever-changing restrictions care home and home communions were suspended but external communication continued. As and when the churches could open for worship, initially St Marks was open Sunday afternoons for private prayer. In addition a communal prayer meeting was held on Wednesday afternoons from 1400-1530 along with other churches In our team on other days.
Sunday worship on YouTube was greatly accepted by members throughout the team and praise and thanks to Revd Denise in putting this all together and to congregants who participated in the recording of prayers and Bible readings and personally was able to contribute which I enjoyed and honoured to do so.
For those who are unaware, as reported last year, a constant review is undertaken by Revd Jane whereby individually as ministers and Lay Ministers, we get together regularly for 1:1 for an hour or so, albeit on Zoom. This gives us all an opportunity to express our opinions ideas and grievances and to be of mutual encouragement in addition to the Team clergy and Lay Ministers. Some of our St Mark’s congregants are now in an established prayer triplet which was and is carrying on as and when it is permitted.
Fun & Faith continues to operate via Zoom and the youngsters have great fun along with some varied ethical, faith, theological topics prayer and teaching. Thanks to Kathy, Sarah Jane in keeping this worthwhile Ministry going.
The House groups which were reported on last year are indeed still functional and established using lots of different approaches and material. the groups functioned well either by Zoom or in house or gardens, where allowed.
Once again, I would encourage reiterate a comment from Last year’s report if you are at all interested ask myself or your fellow church friends, Jane Serbyn, Mark Brame or Canon Jane or Clergy for more details. With Revd Denise and Andrew had to offer, a greater variety of Bible studies, discussions, learning and encouragement was there.
What a year this has been!
Before the pandemic struck Brick church was still meeting monthly and school assemblies and home visits were taking place. One particular event we were planning was to welcome Whitehills primary school year 4 children in to St Mark’s church to take part in a Prayer Spaces for Schools event. Sadly lockdown came in to force the week they were due to come to church however putting the event together helped form a new link with the school.
As the pandemic struck we as a church community had to quickly adapt to worshipping in a new way and as a curate the role became one of an ‘all hands on deck’ as we rolled out a new way of worshipping.
We were aware that we are a technologically diverse parish so our new worship format had to consider that a third of the electoral roll had no access to the internet. One thing we felt was important was to keep a sense of unity and togetherness so we decided to use one worship book for the whole parish so that these same words will be prayed whether people were worshipping at home on their own or worshipping on YouTube. We also put together bible resource booklets so that if people wanted to join in, we could all be reading the same readings together too.
It is safe to say that clergy have been learning the technological side of worshiping as they have been going along. Over the year we have become more confident with leading services via the computer, we have become more confident recording ourselves on cameras and mobiles phones, we have taken inspiration from each other’s set ups. Impromptu recording studios were set up in the corner of studies. Books, blu-tak, music stands and anything else we could find around our locked down homes was used to create a studio and a worshipping atmosphere!
My role in 2020 has been mostly based around at home worship. Putting the books together, recording and editing services for uploading to YouTube.

Schools work also moved online and at Christmas I was asked to put together some resources for Whitehills school for their ‘Christmas Around the World’ topic. On Christmas Eve we tried our first Zoom service with the St Mark’s crib service. Despite it being a very last minute change of plan, we welcomed around 20 or so people online to share the story of Jesus’ birth.
Bible book club continued via Zoom each month and although not quite the same as meeting in a home together, the technology has allowed us to meet and share faith together.
Coffee Zoom was introduced as part of trying to keep a sense of fellowship together. Again not the same as meeting in a building together but nevertheless a means of seeing each other’s faces and sharing news. Coffee Zoom evolved as we tried to figure out what worked and what didn’t. Breakout rooms allowed us to have longer conversions and the weekly games where we played the ‘world cup of snacks’, ‘world cup of sandwiches’ and also the odd game of bingo added to the sense of fun!
The online worship couldn’t have taken place without the support of everyone in the parish. Thank you for being patient with us as we learned this new technology (they don’t teach you this at theological college) and most importantly, thank you for giving it a go. Thank you for simply logging on and having a go at Zoom, having a go at YouTube services and finding your own new ways of worshipping through this pandemic. I trust that you have learnt something about your own faith journey during this time and something about the unchanging nature of God at a time when the world was changing faster than we could keep up.
I write this curate report knowing that the next APCM report I write will be as Rector of my new parish! I can’t believe that my curacy is coming to an end. I want to take this opportunity to say another thank you! Thank you for supporting me on my curacy journey and helping me get to a place where I am able to care for a parish all of my own. It has been a wonderful curacy and I feel extremely blessed that God placed me here to share the last 3 years with you.
Revd Denise Maud
General
As guided by the government St Marks church was shut down due to the Coronavirus in March. We kept in touch through our prayer groups and were soon accustomed to using Zoom to watch the YouTube services and talk to each other at coffee time.
When we reopened the rules were put into practice and our church accommodated the congregation sitting 2 metres apart, needing to wear masks, using hand sanitiser and limit our contact with each other. Our numbers remained between 18-26 people and it was lovely to see each other again.
Christmas needed to be different and the ‘Jesus rocks stones’ were placed around the parish and our church was opened the Saturday before Christmas for families to place a tag on our memory tree and collect a Christingle bag. The Christmas services were sadly missed as we had to go into lockdown again as a new COVid variant spread through the country. During the year we held a socially distanced workday mainly keeping our garden neat and tidy and the grass was mowed throughout the year. Shirley and I would like to thank all our members who work to keep our church and garden in good repair.
A very big thank you to Revd Jane, Revd Denise and Revd Rachel for their ministry to us online throughout the pandemic. This was introduced very early in the pandemic and has made a huge difference to the spiritual life of many members of the congregation at St Marks who have been able to take part.
We have been saddened to lose members of our congregation due to COVid and know that this past year has presented every person with challenges. We put our trust in God and look forward to worshipping together once again knowing that our church life will look different but this is an exciting opportunity to work together spreading the word of God to all in Spring Park.

REPORT FROM THE LAY PASTORAL MINISTERS 2020/2021
This as we all know was far away from a normal year, an exceptional year as any of us can remember due continuing covid restrictions. Nevertheless, church work pastoral care had not stop, it was carried on in a different format. Thanks to all our Team Ministry we adapted using various innovative techniques such as Zoom. YouTube etc in addition each Church was encouraged to use prayer Buddies as a means of

Overall the property is in good repair, many thanks to Peter Cotter. The grounds are kept in good order, our appreciation and thanks to the regular work of Dave Fall no small task. Also through the year working parties have kept the grounds tidy and in good order.
General:
During the year a wooden garden bench in memory of Beryl Dron and Margaret Yorke was installed in the prayer garden, giving us an opportunity to sit and reflect and remember.
Although we have been closed for parts of the last year we have tried to keep a visible presence in the community, thanks to Sarah-Jane Major and others for decorating the railing outside for Christmas, and to Karen Tomlin and all the knitters for the colourful Easter Display.
Finally, thanks to the clergy team, especially Rachel for her support for all she does for St. David's family and the community. A big thanks for St. David's family supporting each other through the good and sad times this last year, by telephoning and visiting although only with doorstep chats. Also our appreciation for all who work behind the scenes in the church, hall and surroundings.

St Mark’s Buildings & Fabric
After a number of breakdowns the decision was taken to replace the boiler in the church hall which was completed in February, just before lockdown. The fabric committee held meetings via Zoom and work continued on items identified in the quinquennial Inspection report and in line with the Church Wardens Annual Checklist. The fabric committee are hoping that higher priority work in the quinquennial report will be completed before the next inspection is due. Work is either carried out ‘in house’ or by contractors.
All the appropriate checks to meet the Fire Regulations and electrical testing have been undertaken in the year and met requirements. As in previous years members of the congregation continued to carry out maintenance work, and small repairs. During the year we held a socially distanced workday, mainly keeping our garden neat and tidy.
ST MARK’S ELECTORAL ROLL 2021 REPORT
Members now deceased : 3 New members : 2
With the sad loss of 3 members and the enrolment of 2 new members over the past 2 years, the 2021 Electoral Roll membership now stands at 42 while in 2019 it stood at 43.
Due to the Covid-19 Lockdown the Electoral Roll was not finalised in 2020. The updated Electoral for Roll for 2021 is now displayed inside church on the notice board.

PCC SECRETARY’S REPORT
During 2020 the PCC met five times, once in full session, then four via Zoom. Regrettably this meant some people were left out if their technology did not suffice. But all meetings were quorate.

ST JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCHWARDENS REPORT, 2020/21
As with all churches the opening of St. John the Baptist Church has been severely restricted throughout 2020, due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Church was closed prior to Mothering Sunday and there were no services or activities throughout Easter. We were able to open church for private prayer during the summer months, and then reopen with limited numbers during September, but only for communion in one part (i.e., bread), with all the necessary safeguards in place. The annual Remembrance Service was held within church in November, but we were not able to hold the Act Of Remembrance at Kingsthorpe War Memorial. Unfortunately, churches were temporarily shut again until December, when we held a Nine Lessons and Carols service in church but then all special services (Carols on the Green and Midnight Mass) were suspended, but the Christmas Day service was held before we once again went into lock-down on Boxing Day.

Fabric Report
The Quinquennial repairs were completed during the summer and also the floodlights are now fully operational.
Work on the planned extension of the Chapter House is still going on but the process seems terribly slow. We are currently waiting for some further trial trenches to be dug within the churchyard, to satisfy the requirements of the Archaeological Representative on the DAC. Once this has been done, we hope to progress the faculty for the scheme and start to build. Tenders for the building work were received in November and the cost quoted was approximately £250.000. This is considerably larger than our original budget and we are committed to raising the difference by grant applications.
Mark Brame
The work to the trees and shrubs in the churchyard has been completed by the contractor working for the Borough Council.
There were no organised churchyard tidy-ups during the year due to pandemic restrictions. The fabric committee would however like to thank those that have, as individuals, on occasion done some tidying up.

ST JOHN THE BAPTIST FABRIC COMMITTEE REPORT
The fabric committee has met regularly during the year. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic all meetings have been virtual meetings on Zoom
A health and safety review is carried out regularly.
The project to extend the Chapterhouse has progressed. The architect prepared the detailed drawings and specification, and tenders were obtained. The tenders were in excess of the budget and discussions are ongoing to establish how costs may be reduced and additional funding be raised. The DAC has asked for further archaeological investigations be undertaken and these will be carried out prior to the faculty application being submitted.
The quinquennial works have been completed, with the minor defects to be rectified in early 2021. Additional works were required to repair stonework on the Chancel Gable end leading to a significant increase in cost. The total cost was however within the budget set aside for the works.
Annual servicing of the clock, boilers, alarm systems and fire extinguishers was carried out
The additional earthing required for the lightening conductor is still required. It is intended that this would be carried out as part of the work to extend the Chapterhouse.
During the year, several repair works have been carried out, as requested in the Quinquennial Inspection. These included the outside drain pipe renewed, guttering and tiles repaired. After inspection the drainage required further work to be carried out, also the window sills of the office, vestry and prayer room. These have now been dealt with.
Electrical Inspection undertaken September 2020, satisfactory. Heating timer in the vestry was replaced October 2020, also switches for the emergency lighting replaced thanks to Peter Cotter for carrying out this work.
We are confident that the hall continues to satisfy the safety aspects as required. Similarly with the Fire Regulations the current fire precautions, testing regime and evacuation routes are compliant with requirements. These tests are carried out every 6 months.
Plans were in hand for two new cookers to be installed. These were fitted in February 2020, thanks to the generous donation from Smurfit Kapper for the gas oven. Also grateful thanks to Nationwide Building Society for their generous donation which paid for the installation of the electric oven. Regarding the flooring in the entrance to the hall, quotes were obtained, and has now been fitted also paid for by donations.
During the year, metal shelving was installed in St. Davids prayer room to make room for more storage for the Food Bank, as a necessity during the Covid Crisis.

Notes to the financial statements
- The financial statements of the PCC have been prepared in accordance with the Church Accounting Regulations 2006, together with applicable accounting standards and the SORP 2005, using the accruals basis.
Financial Review & Reserves
The net result for the year was a small surplus of income over expenditure in unrestricted funds of £4. The PCC suffered a significant reduction to its income due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which resulted in the closure of its buildings during large parts of the year. Whilst the closure also resulted in a reduction in some running costs, this means that the PCC was unable to pay its Parish Share in full, by a significantly increased figure.
| 2020 | 2019 | |
|---|---|---|
| Parish share due | £109,177 | £107,715 |
| Amount paid | £ 68,000 | £ 84,000 |
| Shortfall in payment of parish share | £ 41,177 | £ 23,715 |
A summary of the PCC reserves is provided below. The reduction in restricted funds of £21,045 was due to fabric works at St John the Baptist church.
| 2020 | 2019 | |
|---|---|---|
| PCC general funds (unrestricted) | £ 4,681 | £ 4,156 |
| PCC reserve (unrestricted) | £ 18,045 | £ 18,566 |
| Total unrestricted funds | £ 22,726 | £ 22,722 |
| Restricted reserve (St John the Baptist Church) |
£164,425 | £185,470 |
| Total funds | £187,151 | £208,192 |
The PCC reserves are within its revised policy approved in 2017, summarised as an amount equivalent to:
-
Three months of general running costs for the team (excluding parish share)
-
With restricted reserves held to include:
-
Sufficient funds to cover commitments in relation to identified expenditure required on building repairs and maintenance across the team
-
As appropriate in the cycle of quinquennial inspections of the team’s churches, sufficient funds to meet likely costs arising from the next quinquennial inspection by its due date
-
Sufficient funds for any specific projects within the team which may be identified by the PCC
A summary of the accounts for each fund within the PCC is available on request.

Kingsthorpe Parochial Church Council
Financial Statements for the year ended 31[st] December, 2020
