June- Dec 2024
In earty December 2024 1 organised a beneffi￿ party, hosted at St Marfs Elham to thank all those who volunteer In many
different ways in the service and life of the churches a(ross the benefice. It was the only way I could think of to indude
everyone- from those who are worship leader5, chuTch officer5. PCC member5. those who help with services, deaners, flower
arrangers, bell ringers, door openers and lockers those who he￿ with resourang and organislng events. As well as the regular
up-front work, there are so many who support the work of the church behind the scenes. I want to re-iterate my thanks for
vour welcome, èncourz8ement and support for me as Rertw which is refierted in the service and love you give to your churches
and to the wider community.
A regular monthly pattem of serV[￿S has been established a¢ros5 the benefice to ensure worship and prayer is at the heart of
each parish. Without the dedrcation of the Benefice Ministry Leadership Team IMLTI.. Revd Stephen and Revd Sharon, b"cenced
Lay Readers- &ll, Diana and Janet. Authorssed L•y minister- Paul Sharman and Worshtp Leaders- Mike, Gary, Katherine, Peter
and Sarah regular services would not take pla￿. My prayer is that we can encourage congregation members to gather together
in smaller prayer groups throughout the week to grow in prayerfulne55 and 0*￿Ience to God.
The benefKe now has designated Safeguardirig O[r￿S IPSOS) in each parish and is commltted to dolng all we Can to be a safe
place for all. PSOS and other church offKers such as Treasurers, Wardens, PCC Secretaries and MLT have mettogether. Mv
hope is that WÈ can estsbli5h clear ways of workirg and communtst1￿ within our churthe5 and across the benefice.
l am thankful to Janet and Lesley, Lay ministers who lead weekty ChrI￿lan collective worship in each of the benefFce schools
IElham, Lymirvde 3nd Selstedl. l arn getling to know each of the schools ènd this year, schools have come for services at Acrise,

Church Wardeng Re
The past year has been one of change and excitlng developments. Firstly. wtth the appointment last summer of our
new Rector, Carol, and secondly wtth the commencement, after a very long Be5tation, of the work to reorder the
west end of the Church. Carol has wisely tsken time to settle in and absorb the local situation among her eight
churches and we have continued our normal pattern of services. estsblished over the years of the interregnum. We
hope to See more of her in the coming year. Our regularservi￿S have been 8.003m Holy Communion and 6.00pm
Evensong on the second Sundayofthe month and a sung Euchèrist at 10.00am on the third Sunday. First and fourth
Sundays 10.00am services arethe Lay-led WOW and Family Praise re5perti¥ely. There have also been extra services
for special occasions
We have had a steady stream of visitors in thurth from Sibton Park at the 10.00am servlce on Sundays to bolster the
congregation and have strlven to maintain our usual stsndard of hospitslity and welcome. Thank5 are due to Andree
and Derrick for the regular provision of after-service refreshments.
Work on the west end of the nave started in late January and the new Iloorin8 ha5 been lald. Work remains to be
completed on the electri(s, heating and sound system. David Staveley has led the Fabric and Finance team very ably
over the past several years and has played a pivotsl role in liaising with the archltect and the contractors. Davld Is
standin8 down from hls role In F&F. and from the PCC. at the APCM and we thank him very warmly for all his efforts.
Our Church cleaning team have done a Sterling job of dusting and hooverin& In particular during the reorderlng work
which has stretched them even more than usual. we are all rnost grateful for the hard work the cleaners put in under
Norah's general direction. The church is also enhan￿d by the superb displays of flowers which are produced by the
Flower Ladies led by Andree. The way the Church looks for Sundays, and espeaally for spec5al occasions, owe5 much
to these two group5 who do so much unseen and unsung work.
We are also grateful to Trlcla Hawken and those who volunteer as Sacrlrtans and sldesmen eath Sunday, welcoming
the congre8atlon, dlstrlbutlng orders of servlce and hymnbooks and keeplng thlngs worklng smoothly.
Fund-raising both for the thurch and for other charities is a very important part of Church life. We have held several
fund-raising events during the year, most prominent of these are the 'Music on a Friday Evening, concerts which are
organised by Roger Goody with the help of Katherine. The range of music and musldans whlch Roger manage5 to
secure 15 amazing. Those attending have been treated to music, refreshments and wlne and the donatlons received
have gone to some excellent causes.
Music for our lay-led services have been provided by the worship band of Mike, Roger. Will and simon. supplemented
by Anita and the Choir. The excellent Family Praise serv1￿5 planned by Katherine Goody, which have been very
successful and great fun to partiapate in depend heavFIy OD the volunteer musiaans and we thank them most
heartily.
Our churthyard has bener￿ed over the past year or so from the work of the Community Payback Team, supported
and directed by Bob Lane and Roger Filby. Theteam come on almost every Saturday morning and work around the
churth until early afternoon. They have made a very positive difference to the appearan￿ of the church land, the
grass is more presentsble, and many brambles. weeds and unwanted tree stumps have been removed. They have
also recently been active in clearing the dd overgrown flower bed frorn the car park and shifting 311 the resulting 5911
up to the south side of the grave-yard.
Ro Edmond and her loyal team of ringers have kept the bells actl%t for most of the year untll work started at the base
ot the tower. Hopefully we will soon have the west of the Na￿ and the ringing chamber refvrbished and regular
rlnging and practise can resume. A big thank you to the team who spread the word across the valley in their own
way.

Our Treasurer Lynne has continued her outstanding work with our finan￿. Our reSe￿S are in good shape as at the
end of the year although they are expected to dedine as the reordering work invoices start arriving. l. my brother
Church Warden and all the PCC thank her with all our hearts for her tireless commitment
During the year the church has had: 4 Weddings, 3 Baptisms and 5 Funerals.
Fabric
The Fabric & Finance Committee is a small group, headed up by David Staveley. that meets on a regular basis to deal
with all the matters concerning the upkeep of our historic churth building and the surrounding churchyard.
The final approval for the refurtjishment of the Nave was at last granted; work actually stsrted in early January 2025.
It 15 anticipated that we will be able to Use the thurch buildirg for normal thurch serwces from mid-late May 2025.
The help in maintaining the churchyard previously given by the local Community Payback Team ICPTI restarted In
2024 and they have done sterling work throughout the year, indudir8 the winter month5. We are particularly
grateful to our Verger, Bob Lane, for the time and energy that he has put into the prartical work of maintaining the
churchyard and the building- despite many difficulties. There are just so many things that would not have been
achieved without Bob's hard work & expertise. A150. Norah Chinneck has overseen the deanlng and preparatlon of
the church bullding to make it useable for regular and occaslonal ServI￿S and for private wayer.
