St Barnab3s' Parochial Church Councll Ithe PCCI has the responsibil ity of cooperating with
the Incumbent, Revd Kevi n Ba rnard, i r) promoting i n th@ ÉcclÈsl astieal payish, the wh[￿e
mission of Church, pastoral, evangelistic, 59CiAI and Ètumehical.

The vicar led a discussion with the PCC, and the deslrÈ Is to move to more modern, less
F(xmal SundayService5, TothSs Ènd. from the ofthe year Kive paused using the
organ and have changed our 'sÈcond Sunday, traditional communion service to match our
less Formal 'fourth Surhdav Cornmunion Service. We no longer use the communion rail.

rca che5 Out to the local community.
We al so introduced 6 'PrayÉr Tree,. whlch enables anyone coming into the church to
leave a prayer request, bthlch is prayed for as part of our Sunday sorwce.
Men's Breakfa5t- A monthly opportunity to meet with other men at st Barnabas
church. We start with l)r ea kfast and then have an Inform£ I group corbversation,
basèd on a Christian bool( we arÈ working through tugether, about our faith and how
it relat@s to l ife today.
Salad Bowl . A M¢￿t￿]Y Christian Contèmplation Group whlch weltomes people from
varicus chuwches or none. This is a fa¢illtated ti me to be stil l a present to God,
followed b¥ a shared lunch
GAPP - A monthly meeting entitled Gra ndparents and Parents Prayer, where wp
pray for fa mi ly members a nd others.

Pa5torul Core For People Living In The Parish
A5 well as our regular 5ervice5, we eha blè %￿r community to celebrate a nd thank God for
the milèstones of the journey through lif@. This year, there h8ve bÉ@n 5 Baptisms for those
under 16 yÈars, one by full immersion.. We were delighted to welcomè Bishop Eleanor
(Bishop of Hull), who presided at a cot)flrm atlon servlce In June, where threo people were
conflrmed (two ov@r 16 yeaTS, one 16 yea rsl. I funera I was held at the church Inone
at the crem atori uml. There have not been any weddings, ref lecting the £ necdota I decline
in church wedding5 nationally, a nd a Iso St 82 rnabas is a non-tra ditional modern bllildin8,
which doe5 not seem to be the first choice lor touplès cutside the Congregation seekin8 a
church wedding.
The presence of the Parish Ollice within the Churth building means there a re peoplè around
Mcnday to ThLtrsday to take pF)one ca115 and Spea k with those who wish to call in. We were
dèlighted that the church lounEÈ and Chapel wele open to the general public 7 day5 B vweèk.

/ Childminders. Our sessions are fLJTh and i nteractive a nd include fr2È play time, crafts, Bible
storie5, singi ng a we share refreshments for adults and chSldren.

We pD5ted i nvit3tlDn5 to all residents of the parish to attend the Saltmine Production of
'Cl nderella, Iwhich we hcstod and sub5idi5edl and i Christmas ca rd with det3115 of Dur and
the other Swanl3 tr)d Churches, Christmas service5. Th 15 event W? 5 well-received, although
attendance wa5 lower at thè Salinlne Production and Chrlstma5 servlces than the prèviou5
year.
Hel ping those in need Is a de monstration Df our faith. We were able to offer the ha rvest
produce we collected to a local Food Stor@ at St. Johr)'s Church Bransholme in East Hull.
As part of the Local Community, v4e uffÈr our Church bui Iding to loca18 roup5 and the wider

We ale now worki ng more c105ely with the Swanland Village Association and cther churches
in the village. At Christmas, a joint vi I lige carol service w3s Wld at st Barnabas Church,
where 8i5hop Eleanor, the Bishop of Hull, spoke. The wcar led av iNfo(mal Aet of
Rernembra hCÈ at thè war memcrSal Sn the vlll 3Ee on Remembrance Day. We also ran
eddy-Be4rs' tlcnic in the church as pa rt cf the Swanland Festival.
Other Actlvltles
We have a Parish Office with a part.tirne paid administrator.
Over the year, we upgra olecl the rem2 i ni ng PC'& in the church to run Windows 11, to ensure
they remain up to date with the latest softwa￿e. We also upgraded to the latest version of
Easyworship for displaying the words on Screens on a Sunday Mornin8, and introduced ising
Worship music videos to supplement our sung worship.
The church m4NageS topyright wSth the annual purchase of the requl red CCLI licences. Our
church fa mSlY contact details, Electoral RDII a nd children'5 attendance records are securely
maintained on ChurLhSuite.
A significant exercise was underta ken to tody th? church Ixilding, filing and shredding la5
approprlatel many years cf accumulated paperivDrk.

We have a modern com plex. comprising a chapel, hall, louwe, various small rooms.
commerclal kltchen and toilets. Tho PCC is thè Managing Trustee of the freehold property
and church com plex buildings on Main StrèèL Swanland. The freehol d title of thls is held by
The York Diotesan of Finan¢È Limited as Custodian Trustee. The PCC recognises in
order to facil itate its work, it ha5 a n obl igation to maintain the fa bric of the St. Barna bas
Church tomplex, The PCC 15 thankful to the Fabric Committee and the volunteers who carrv
out routine maintenance.
We ernploy a paid pait-time cleaner.
The building is in good ￿dItiOn ènd contlnues to be regularly malntslned.
At the lJeginning of 2025 the Church steps were repalred and iwo handralls ÈrÈctÈd
on elther 5i(k& of the steps.
New heatin8 to the Chapel, Hall and Foyer was installéd this yèar, TherÈ pre H f
teethl n8 problems whlch we hope to rectlty durlng 2Q26.
The gas boi ler heats the ra4iators in th@ p@ripheral rooms of the building. These
radiators wÉrÉ flushèd OLJt, and a more pc)werful pump wa5 installed. which has
imwovÉd the heBtlng In these 31ea5.

Reserves Pollcy
The PCC agreed a designated reserves pollcy, I ntendins to have ill hand about 3 month5 of
general expenditur@ and six monthg worth of salary, thi s being about £26,500 to cover
unforeseen expenses.
This mea r)5 our General Fund for 202$ r)ow st3nd5 at £49.581.
Thè PCC continues to hold as designated funds £35.247, beinE the rèmaindèr of a le8acy
received in earlier years and designal'ed by the PCC under the title of Project Welcome.

The PCC recogni5es thè risk of Climate ChBngÈ and our Dbligations to reduce our
carbon fcotprint in line with diocesan targets. Further to thé fa i l ure of our 8as-f ired

E 50,000 for 2026 as aga i nst £ 40,000 for 2025. The good is that this nearly Covers the
cost of a vitar which is ostimated at E 57,770.
