Healing Little Hearts Trustees. Annual Report (conlinued) Year ended 31 March 2025 Achievements and performance The year ended I 1st March 2025 wa5 successful in ternis of fundraising and has provided a platforni for the charity to increase its prcscncc in countrics whcie nccd is greatest and to continuc to raise public awareness both in this country and abroad. li is considered vitally imwjrtanl thai the work and success achieved so far are not held back when con.sidering ihe future. Conoenital Heart Dise&se ICHD) is siill one of the world's mo%1 common birth defectq affeciinTr l in 100 children. Throughoui ihe developing world. I million children are Ixbrn with CHD each )iear and ihe higher birth rates in the poorest countries mean thai a disproportionaie number of children is in the pooresi parts of the world where faciliiies and personnel to treai CHD in rhese children are virnlally non*xistent. To compound this proble￿ the greatest problem facing children born with CHD is thai 80% to 90% of them are born to thc poorcst familics. furthcrmorc. Ihc hugc incquality in hcalth catr provision for childrcn with CHD 15 demonstrated by the fact that 90% of the facilitics and personncl who can treat CHD effectively live in the dcvclopcd world. This nxans that thcrc arc hundrcds of thousands of childrcn born cach ycar with CHD io thc poorest families with no ability to treai ihem. Many of these children languish with conditions, dying prematur¢ly whilst thcir faTnilics arc helplessly unable ￿ obtain anivor oigani5e the urgenily needed life-5dving treatmcnL% n¢¢d¢d for thcm. This huge inequaliiy in public health is reinforced by the siaiisiic thai 80% of Children CHD are born wilh 5 common defecis can be ireaied definiiively by a simple heart operation. For example. in India approximaiely 78,(K)O children in India die from CHD each year. many lii'ino in remoie rural areas without access to medical and diagnosiiL expeni8e is seriously limiied and many of them are untreaied and fail io .%urviipe. The majoriry of children wilh CHD are referred laie 10 specialisi centres and frequenilj, their families are unable to afford the interventions that may be required. We believe that in tbese days of cotnparatively inexpensive travel aDd the use of technology, a strong alld concerted effort must be made lo address with global health problem. The Tru.grees Consider that achievements throughoui the year have coniinued io n￿et the objectives of ihe charity. The Trustees are discussing. following the fund-raisino success of this financial year, to invest in fi]rther training of overseas st￿f and in encouragino centres of excellence in countries where Ihere are staff prepared to take on Ihe Healing Little Hearts manrle and progress lis work. In spire of Ihe devastaiing effecr of the global pandemic, children will continue to be with CHD and will coniinue io need our help and assistance.
