To Whomever This May Concern,
Camberley Judo Club aims to improve the health and
wellbeing of all people in the local community and provide a pathway for elite athletes to train and compete at the highest possible level. We are committed to providing a sustainable pathway for people of all ages to have a lifetime in Judo and perform to the best of their abilities.
We measure our success based on elite athlete performance, increasing judo participation and being financially sustainable so that we can reinvest back into the club. In 2022, we have been successful across all our benchmarks.
Firstly, we were awarded the prestigious status of being the first Official Commonwealth Training Centre of Judo in the world. This meant that we now open our doors to athletes from all Commonwealth countries to train and compete with us. Our Head Coach (Luke Preston) had the honour of being selected to be the Head Coach for Team England who took an unprecedented medal haul at the Games. We had five athletes competing at the Commonwealth Games for three different countries who won one Gold, one Silver, two Bronzes and a respectable 5th place finish.
We were able to financially support the athletes to compete in this tournament through the success of our school’s project which is now providing licenced Judo coaching to multiple schools in the local community. The growth of our school’s programme is helping us achieve our aims of increasing Judo participation (measured by increased Camberley Judo Club and British Judo Association membership) and becoming a financially sustainable club. We continue to be a force for good in our community by providing children with free school meals during the school holidays through our Judo camps. Additionally, we provide Judo for Ukrainian refugees on Wednesdays.
As we emerged from the pandemic and within the current economic climate, our most significant expenses remain power for the club and repairing and maintaining the building structure. This meant that we operated at a loss for 2022. We have budgeted for further increases in energy prices and required maintenance costs.
We were unable to find an appropriate auditor for 2022 due to exceptionally high costs (greater than £5,000) but have sourced one for 2023 and beyond due to our relationship with the Rotary Club.
Regrettably, this means we don’t have an auditor’s report for 2022, but of course we will produce one for 2022 when we report on 2023.
We are achieving our ambitions of becoming a sustainable club, providing a pathway for young people and producing an elite training environment for the best athletes in the world. We look forward to reporting back on 2023.
Yours Sincerely
Dr Benjamin Rosenblatt // Head Trustee Camberley Judo Club
