hava béèn focussed on Ihe PenteTr)st Christmas seasons with an appeal focussèd on th8
increased needs in the Hoty Land Arising due ty Covid. The ￿5￿lts SFeak for themselves with both
income and grants in the H(￿Y Land in(xeasirg by 58% to reoyd levels for the charty. Thesa
increased grants have been krgdy fo(XJss￿ on Ihe r8li8wng of unem￿0Y￿enI condibons n the Hc4y
Land gènerally through inue8sing our tradilw)nal work in lamity support, m*li(xl 8mergency 5UPPOrt
and school fees in the Bethkhem area. a5 well 8S 8(kliry mrxe SUPFXM in the wider West Bank, Gaza.

lrnpact of COVID 19
The impact of Covid in the Hdy Land has been devaststir¥J. In Israef at least there h8s b￿n some
support for the uneMFlo￿￿enI f2used by the of travel and the kxl(thy•4n. H￿*￿ver, th￿ has
been no such support in The West Bank. Gaza and Jc*dan. As a r85uIt, approaching 80% of the
FX)pulation in the main tourisi centres such 88 Belhlehem have been without income $in¢e March
2020. Alihough thè vaccinaliw Fryramme has progressed across the region, due to ris8 of new
variants, tourism and busir*ss is yet to retum. Olsr office in Bethl6ham and tsur partner5 in the Hc4y
Land arè sÈeing unwecedented levals of rwjuests for help. We are d￿ng our bost lo respond and
C4Joperating with other agencies where we can. In the UK the Chari￿s tra¢Jiti"onal fundr8isiry sources
from parish group ￿ents and parish and ¢Jiocasan 8ppeals mostty dried up as 811 public worship was
r85tricted. ApplKations to fru3ts and Fovndations were f8wI drffKult condjtsons 85 these entities

from FHL grants. - Iraqi RehJ9ees in Jordan. These rèf￿88$ are rKJ¢ granted work permits so cannot
prowdè for t￿MSe￿9$. During the year grants were m•Je to a Latin 8nd Anglican parish In Amman to
supp)rt a local programff* to provKk essen16al madic8tion and essenb.al fumtbJr&, trjod. supplies and
training to Iraqi refugeos. The also si1pwÈ￿I a Sm￿1 p)b ueation proj8d r818ting to an

- Education. The payryn8nt (Y part-pa￿)￿l of school fees is a core FHL ac*rvity, enabllng tamilies to
send children to 23 dtffferent fai￿ schooEs Thi varTrws towns 8nd villages, principalty rn Ihe Wesl Bank
but also in Nazareth arKI Jerusalem. Due to UneM￿o￿nI. families ha￿ found it esp9Ci8lly drffiutit to
meet thèse fees. therefore FHL has inrTras&d gr8nts ￿ this 8rea by 35%. In addition. FHL Supp￿
students at 8 universibes in Ihe West Bank and ¢(*￿￿nu￿ a Fryrarnme, contribtJUrKJ 50% of of
the grants for 24 sbjdents at untverwties in Gaza.

Land Comnyttee or lora Clergy and their ar￿m$lan￿S venfied. FHL then prowde iegular help with
500 shekels {ÈPK¥OK £113) per month to th6s8 families l) which can make a signifi(ant drfterenc6 to
th8ir quality of life. Cases a￿ re-assessed every 12 mnths. Due to the pandem￿ conditions th
number of cases helped has inueaS￿l by 16 to 1W f¢x year.
- Hwsing repairs. These conttnue on an ad hoc basis xcOrdi￿ ￿ casas trKought to the attention of
th¥ H￿Y Land Cornmittee. Work indude decor8tirg. dampprwffing. gbctrical 8n¢J plumbrng
repairs to more sljntfirant improvements such as in*lliro a r￿¥ kitchen. bathroom and water tsnks. .
Unfortunatety. due to the pressures for ￿￿erger￿Y suppor( this propd has tsken a back s&at in the
last year.
Soclal Carè torth• Elderfy- SL Martha's Hous•
This is undertaken through support to the runni￿ c08ts of SL Martha's House. the first Day Cafe
Centre for elderty ladies In the Bethlehem area. The ￿use is open 4 days a week 8fKI prov4de$
comfort and wpport as well as practical fac￿￿s, suth as lunches, hawdressing and pedioJr9. tsyice
week to 30 Christian ladies. moslly Wid￿￿8 wrfh no family member to help them. FHL is the solo
fund8r of this project and has been ab￿ to (xjntsnue to SUPF*J# the ¢¥erat￿n of St M8rtha's House and
