Summary of the main activities
Helping Point UK ("HPUK") achieves its charitable objectives, to the public benefit, by raising funds in the UK and distributing those funds to our sister organisation, Helping Point India ("HPI"), which operates the charity's projects on the ground in rural Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, India.
HPUK works closely with HPI and distributes funds only after satisfying itself, through regular reporting, financial oversight and ongoing communication, that the funds are being properly applied by HPI in furtherance of the charity's charitable objectives.
Most of HPUK's funds are applied to Helping Point's largest project, St Simon's School (Helping Point Canada primarily funds the Helping Point Hostel and Day Care Centres). Accordingly, this report focuses principally on St Simon's School.
The Helping Point Projects funded by Helping Point UK are:
1. St Simon's School
Helping Point's principal project is St Simon's School, an English-medium boarding school located in Gumma, providing education, accommodation, food, healthcare and pastoral support to approximately 350 pupils, the majority of whom board at the school.
2. Helping Point Hostel (formerly Jhola Children's Home)
A residential children's home providing round-the-clock care, accommodation, food, healthcare and pastoral support for approximately 55 vulnerable children who are orphaned or whose families are unable to care for them.
3. Day Care Centres
Ten Day Care Centres operating across Helping Point's areas of work provide additional educational support, meals and practical assistance to around 450 children from disadvantaged rural communities, complementing their state education and supporting their wellbeing and development.

ST SIMONS SCHOOL GUMMA
St Simon's School, in the village of Gumma in the state of Odisha, India, is an English-medium boarding and day school operated by Helping Point India.
St Simon's School continues to provide an excellent standard of education and is consistently ranked by the Indian government's school regulator amongst the top-performing schools in the Gajapati region.
An English-medium school provides pupils with the opportunity to become fluent in English, greatly enhancing future educational and employment opportunities. Most Indian parents aspire for their children to attend an English-medium school, but such education is often beyond the reach of poorer families. St Simon's therefore provides free and heavily subsidised places to children from disadvantaged rural communities, significantly improving their future life opportunities.
Pupils are from poor, rural families, about half of whom pay a nominal fee (circa £150/year) for their children to attend and others (whose families have no means to pay) attend for free. There are eighteen teachers, one computer teacher, three wardens (two male and one female), two caretakers, four cooks and a driver responsible for the transport of the day pupils.
The pupils are typically from poor rural families, around half of whom pay a modest fee towards the cost of their education, while others whose families have no means to contribute attend free of charge. The school employs dedicated teaching, boarding and support staff who work together to provide education, accommodation, healthcare and pastoral care in a safe and nurturing environment.
Students follow the Indian curriculum and are prepared for state examinations.
MAIN ACHIEVEMENTS AND OUTCOMES
During the year, St Simon's School continued to provide high-quality education alongside boarding accommodation, nutritious meals, healthcare and pastoral support for its pupils. The school continues to benefit from its modern campus, classrooms and boarding facilities, enabling it to provide a safe and supportive learning environment for children from across the surrounding region.
Alongside St Simon's School, Helping Point's wider projects continued to provide residential care, meals and educational support through the Helping Point Hostel and ten Day Care Centres. Collectively, these projects support hundreds of vulnerable children and families living in impoverished rural communities.
The year also marked Helping Point's 25th anniversary, providing an opportunity to reflect on the charity's sustained impact over the past quarter century in improving educational opportunities and supporting vulnerable children and families across rural India.

WHO BENEFITTED FROM PROJECT
The principal beneficiaries of the St Simon's School project are children aged approximately 5–16 years attending the school. The wider Helping Point projects also benefit vulnerable children residing at the Helping Point Hostel, children attending the Day Care Centres and members of the surrounding communities who receive practical support through the charity's work.
RESPONSES GENERATED AND CHALLENGES
1. Education of girls
Parents in poor rural areas are often illiterate and do not always appreciate the long-term value of education, with children sometimes expected to contribute to family income through agricultural work. Helping Point therefore continues to engage with parents through meetings, community visits and local outreach to explain the benefits of education. Particular emphasis is placed on encouraging the education of girls, whose schooling is often given lower priority within disadvantaged communities.
2. Delivering sustainable support
Providing high-quality education, accommodation, food, healthcare and pastoral care for several hundred children requires significant ongoing financial support. The trustees continue to work closely with Helping Point India to ensure that available resources are used efficiently and effectively so that the charity can maintain and develop its projects for the long-term benefit of the communities it serves.

Responsibilties and basis of report
As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the
Independent examiner's statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:
•the accoun�ng records were not kept in accordance with sec�on 130 of the Chari�es Act; or
•the accounts did not accord with the accoun�ng records; or
•the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

Notes to the Financial statements
1. Accounting Policies
1.1 Basis of accounting
These financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention, with items recognised at cost or transaction value unless otherwise stated in the relevant notes to these financial statements.
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the Statement of Recommended Practice: Accounting and Reporting by Charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) and with the Charities Act 2011. The charity constitutes a public benefit entity as defined by FRS 102.
1.2 Going concern
The Trustees have reviewed the forecasts, future commitments and funding levels of the Charity and have a reasonable expectation that the Charity has adequate resources to continue in operational existence for the foreseeable future. The Company therefore continues to adopt the going concern basis in preparing its financial statements.
1.3 Cash and cash equivalents
Cash and cash equivalents consist of cash at bank, in hand, deposits and short-term investments. Any bank accounts in overdraft are included within the overall cash balance.
1.3 Recognition of income
These are included in the Statement of Financial Activities (SoFA) when the charity becomes entitled to the resources or it is more likely than not that the trustees will receive the resources; and the monetary value can be measured with sufficient reliability. Donations are only included in the SoFA when the general income recognition criteria are met (5.10 to 5.12 FRS102 SORP).
