## **Annual Report of Thornton Methodist Church 1[st] September 2021 – 31[st] August**

## **2022**

On 1[st] September 2021 I was welcomed as the new Minister of Thornton Methodist Church, and my first 12 months have flown by. It has been an interesting year as we have settled into new patterns of worship with both congregations now worshipping together at 10:30am, and as we have restarted activities face-to-face activities in the life of the Church and continued to build relationships with our local community. This has not been an easy year with Covid restrictions and guidance being resumed over the Winter months, and as have continued to re-build the life of the Church following lockdown.

Despite the difficulties we give thanks for how God is at work in our community and for the new shoots we are beginning to see emerging. In this past year we give thanks especially that…

- Our ‘Coffee Stop’ continues to flourish, and our monthly coffee mornings continue to grow in attendance, by both we are meeting new people from our Community.

- We have run several successful events for children, young people and families including a Pizza and Pancake Party, and a Summer Fun Day at the end of August.

- We have restarted our evening service of alternative worship called ‘Connect’, encouraging us to connect with God and each other in different ways.

- We welcomed Rainbow House Nursery to make Christingles, and they celebrated their Carol Service and end of year Graduation in Church.

- We welcomed the whole of Millfield School for their 6 carol services in 3 days at the end of term.

- We worked with JT Byrne for their annual memorial service at Christmas, giving local bereaved families a space to remember loved ones.

- We have hosted prayer days during Advent and Holy Week and run study groups through Lent and Advent.

- Our crafters have made ‘Prayer Squares’ for anyone to take to help them to pray.

- We welcomed Cliff College as part of their Trek across the Lancashire Methodist District, and they led worship encouraging us to give thanks for our past, pray for the present and dream for the future.

- For our new Community Choir ‘Just Sing’ that we run together with Fleetwood Methodist Church.

- For this new chapter in the life of TMC and for the adventures that this next year, as with every year, will hold.

And these are just the things I can remember! Along with the cycle of the year we experience in the life of the Church through celebrating Christmas and Easter, and in the offering of our pastoral care to our community not only in supporting bereaved families, and celebrating with them in Baptisms but the love we offer to all members of our community. All this and so much more makes up a range of aspects of the life of the Church that we continue in our rhythm and pattern of being a follower of Jesus.
