HOLY TRINITY CHURCH SUNNINGDALE Charity number- 1129882 Report of the Trustees for the year ended 31 December 2023 The PCC of the Ecclesiastical Parish of Sunningdale present their report with the financial statements for the year ended 31 December 2023. They have been prepared in aGGordance with the provisions of the Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance wth the Financial Reporting Stsndard applicable in the UK and Republic of I￿land (FRS102) {effective 1 January 2015)- (Charities SORP {FRS102)). Sharing God's love. To live by falth, be known by love. to be a light of hope. Routine? Anything but. We are grateful that 2023 was a year undisturbed by Covid or any other extemal Influen￿ that would prevent the life and work of the church continuing. It was welcome to have the usual routine of services and activities. I say routine, bui our servrces and events are anything but routine. We held an 8'.00am BCP communion on the first Sunday of the month, another at Midday each Wednesday and a 10:00am Holy Communion every Sunday but none of them are routine. With a gifted group of leaders and preachers. every serwce is unique. They are familiar of course. but planned and led each week with integrity and commitment. I would like to thank Revd Terry and Jane Ward-Hall, LLM Dolapo Ogunbawo. Carol Elsasser and Michael Grist, Gilly Robinson, Fleur Pelly and Karen Fisher. Our 10:00am worship serVI￿S also require a large group of volunteers and we are grateful to our musicians and singers, sound and vision and camera operators. readers, intercessors. refreshment team, flower arrangers and the parents who led the d)ildren's group at the family Gommunion on the 1st Sunday of the month. What sets the services apart from dull routine is the openness and honesty of those who lead and speak, sharing their spiritual joumey wilh all who come making faith accessible and not the preserve of the few. It's always heartening to hear how much guests have enjoyed being with us and feeling so welcomed. We are also joined online at the main Servi￿ through our YouTube channel HTSVICAR (this name was chosen because it's the email add￿$$ for the Vicar!) We have church members watching live and a number catching up later that day or in the week. By the end of the week the Servi￿ has an average of 35 views. I think P from Venezuela is still watching the services and M and J watched each week from Vancouver until they retumed to us. Who would have thought this possible before 2020? With church life back to normal we were free to celebrate weddings, conduct funerals and have baptisms and it is always ajoy to have these services at Holy Trinity. Serving the community at these special times has always been the mission of the parish church and we are privileged to host these events for our neighbours.

In 2023 we ran an Alpha course with the first seven weeks at the Pellvs home (with a wonderful meal prepared by a rota of church ¢hets) and thereafter in the church. It has been a joy to open up the Christian faith to those exploring and wanting to know more. We shall be running another course before long. We have continued to take communion services each month at Domiy House. Lynwood Apartments and Lynwood Nursing Home. I'm grateful to the team who volunteer to take these services. I know how much my own Mum enjoys worship in her nursing home (Cambridgeshire) and to bring worship to those who would not be able to access church is a vital part of our community work. The church has continued to run the Foodbank and Hardship Fund through 2023 and both are an on- going miracle. When supplies or money gets low...food comes in, collections are made, we always have what we need and just keep on giving it away. Schools and Community Our most frequent wsitors are Holy Trinity Ptimary SGhool and th￿r routine is to have Easter services, the leavers service, two Harvest sepiices and a Carol service for key stage 2. Why two services al Easter and Harvest?? To fit in all the parents and grandparents of course! The whole school also comes for a Christingle service just before school breaks up for the Christmas holidays and it is a wonderful service of worship and wonder. We also host the Dreamcatchers nativity service and Charters School Carol service, a truly sumptuous evening of the traditional nine lessons and carols. Then of course there are the Scout quiz nights, tsvice a year. with the whole building accommodating the quiz team tables. It's a terrific community event with the aim to raise money for the scout hut r build. We are very glad to support Ihem in this. Every Wednesday the church runs the Rendezvous Café and recently we have been running out of spaGe! In the summer it's not a problem with tables outside, but in winter we endose the north transept and create our Ivami space.. On one memorable occasion we squashed in extra tables and had an overfow in the church offi￿. Roll on Transfomiing Trinity and a bigger wami space! It's great fun to have different people and groups from the community coming into church to enjoy refreshments and friendship. This activity is set to grow and grow. The Pastoral Team Weaving through the lrfe of the church and reaching out into the community is the work of the pastoral team. The volunteers quietly and diligently do a wide range of things to serve others led by Roz Doherty and the whole team are glad to acknowledge what a great job she does...nothing gets forgotten! It's this team who take the servi￿$ at Lynwood and Donny with the addition of Jenny's 'Church comes to you. at Lynwood each week. This team does a range of things under °help at hand. and has the bereavement team members. Caring Cuisine has a home on the agenda (recently reported across the Diocese) and the Foodbank and Hardship Fund are a regular topic. We discuss home communions and plan how to assist those in ne&J. In Ihe gospel of Matthew, we are taught that acts of kindness and generosity should not be broadcast widely but done in secret. The Pastoral Team is not secret or secretive (our regular item on safeguarding would prevent this!) but nevertheless they quietly get on livrng out the church mission to share the love of God. They are an amaing team. 21Pagt

While thinking of amazing l also want to thank iwo other groups. Those who drive church members to and from Church. This tskes time and energy and commilment and is another example of puth'ng others first. Thank you all those who have been on the rota in the past and those who are still involved, it is very much appreciated. School Governors. A number of church members have been governors and we supply three of the governing board (plus the inajmbent). Currently another church member is a 'Diocesan' govemor. Being a governor is not an insignificant role and takes time and commitment, attending the board meetings and committees. I very much appreciate all who have done this work and are doing so now. The school benefits greatly from your input. Moya Holroyd. When I first became incumbent in 2017 we would regularly have pastoral team meetings at the home of Moya and Peter on Whitmore Lane. I quickly came to realise what a loving and kind soul Moya was. with a passion to serve others and share the love of Jesus everyone. Her instinct was to pray about everything, either asking the Lord to intervene or thanking Him for his goodness. She loved to worship, she loved to pray and she loved to serve others. Moya passed away at the beginning of 2024 but it would be wrong to wait another 12 months to give thanks for her life just beGause it wasn't in 20231 She has left us a tremendous example of faith and works,. knowing that the love of God is shown in the Sove of nsghbour. We ￿lebrated her lrfe at a wonderful service on 20th February. Fabric of the building. A report on the building will be given at the APCM and thus be in the minutes of the meeting. In brief we have continued to tackle the items from our 2019 QI and the most noticeable item has been the refurbishment of the outer doors (vestry. tower. north. south porch). They look stunning. The churchyard continues to benefit from the Parish Council's care and another well-attended workday saw a tremendous amount of work done. Thank you to all who came and all who catered for us. We have plans to develop two distinct areas of the churchyard while fighting the battle to clear all the areas still overgrown. Bracknell Deanery We have continued to play an active part in the deanery. in particular supporting neighbours with service cover when we can...mosdy this is down to Revd. Terry's wllingness to travel! Three church members serve as deanery synod reps: Bary Aheme, Stephanie Hynard and Karen Fisher. It was a steady yearfor the deanery wth a new inajmbent coming to St. Michael's and St. Mary at Easthampstead. For a few weeks we had a full complement of dergy but then three resignations and three curates moving on mean we lose seven dergy in a short space of time. I can add up, we had a volunteer clergyman married to one of those who ￿signed, so he shall be moving too. All change in Bracknell Deanery. Revd Terry. Last year I reported that Revd Tery would be finishing his curacy and then be signed off to become an associate minister. A senior clergyperson p)inted out to us that rf Revd Terry was an associate there would be a corresponding payTnent we would make to the DI0￿Se...a bit rich as Revd T is a self-supporting minister. If Revd Tery 'retired' and had permission to officiate (PTO) there would be no payments and his ministry could continue unaffected.

While in no way diminishing the value Revd Tery is to all of us, he agreed that a title was of little value and so officially qualifi￿ from curacy and immediately retired, causing some constemation among his friends who read about this in the church times. His ministry to all of us remains a great blessing and in particular among bereaved families who are deeply appreciative of his loving care. We are richly blessed to have him. Piano4-thon A new event took place in December. dreamed up by Katherine Hutchinson. 12 hours of piano music. This was to be a fundraiser for Transfomiing Trinity as well as a showcase for Katherine's piano pupils and those of Roberta Wolff. With a perfomiance from local concert pianist Daniel Hill and perfomiances from church members and friends it was a glorious day of music. We had a quilting exhibition and art and photography from Martin and Annabel Williamson. who also oversaw the fantastic lunches on offer. They are truly multi-talented. With the café team running flat out for eleven of the twelve hours everyone ended the day sornewhat exhausted but what a joyous event. The event raised an amazing £4.713.52 for Transfomiing Trinity. Transforming Trinity. Creating a communlty hub. 2023 was a year of significant progress for our community hub project. A statement of need (what we are doing and why we need to do it) and a statement of significance (what is unique, valuable and special about our church) were written prior to a sile visit on the 13th February by the Diocesan Advisory Council (DAC) sub- group. The plans were thoroughly discussed and explored by the sub-group and our DAC officer Sophie felt confident about taking the plans to a full DAC in March for their consideration. I'm glad she did. After the DAC meeting we received a very long and helpful report which l&1 to us re-writing the two statements and some re-design of the plans, but by paying attention to the DAC and regarding them as partners (not obstructionists) the next time the plans were presented we got positive feedback and their support to develop the project further. All this though takes up months of time. One additional request was to write an extra document defending various aspects of the plans (notably dividing up spaces to cut down on heating) and a second document presenting the case for having solar panels. When the plans went to the September DAC meeting we got the pemiission to (keep calm) and cary on! These plans were presented to the church at a special event on Sunday 8th October. A video of that presentation is still available. h s:Ilwww. outube.comlwatch?v-zHOmSmHX8KQ This led to another site visit in October, this time by the amenity societies who are consulted on the plans. These are the Victorian Society, Historic England and the Church Building Council. Each writes a report commenting on the plans and we have to respond to these reports either adopting or rejecting their suggestions. That work is in hand. All of the above led to the PCC taking the decision to "go live" by which we mean to start the serious task of raising the money and the commitment to go ahead. To aid this we have written and published a second booklet which is available to all and on the website under the Transforming Trinity link.

We are richly blessed with tr40 experienced professionals" architect Mark Goodwill-Hodgson and church member Paul Shamian whose working lrfe has been managing building projects. With their guidance we are taking the project forward step by step. One vital aspect of the project is prayer. Prayer doesn't exempt us from doing any of the work but shapes all we do and continually brings every aspect of the work to God. seeking always that °your will be done, your kingdom come". The Transfomiing Trinity project is supported by a WhatsApp Group called 'Church Prayer, and thirty-three people receive a texi between 7am and 8am six days a week. Anyone is welcome to join the group which Revd Jon runs as host. Our Community Hub project is taking shape and we a￿ even beginning to whisper dates for when the work might be done. We are called to be faithful and persevere" so, whether it's done sooner or later we shall see this work through together. Thank you 2023 was a year of worship, service, fellowship and prayer. We have served others and made all welcome. We have persevered v￿th our great and challenging project and through the year have known God's blessing. I want to close by thanking Michael and Carol our church wardens, Michelle our treasurer and Amanda our administrator. Michael and Carol have served the church community through the year with love and grace and we have been blessed to have them. Michelle has kept us on the financial straight and narrow. keeping us updated and making sure we fulfil a11 our obligations. Amanda has managed the business of church with effortless skill and good humour. Michelle and Amanda are church treasures! Thank you everyone for being a part of Holy Trinity Sunningdale and living out the command to 'love one anotherf. May we continue to see growth and favour over the coming year, God's blessing and direction as we come closer to fulfilling Transfomiing Trinity. May all we are and all we do be to his glory. Restricted donations of £63,189 were received towards Transforming Trinity and the Hardship Funds. with expenditure of £20,331 ￿sUlting in a net gain of £42.858 on restricted funds. Total reserves increased to £674,396 as a result of this. Of our total reserves. £218.387 is restricted where the use is limited by the temis under which the original gifts were made (this includes donations towards Transfomiing Trinity). The remaining £456.009 is unrestricted. Reserves Policy: Michelle Scarsbrook (Treasurer) It is PCC policy to maintain a balan￿ of unrestricted funds equivalent to 3 months of unrestricted expenditure to cover emergency situations that may arise from lime lo time {the Reserve Balance). This equates to approximately £33,000 (including Parish Share) based on unrestricted expenditure for 2023. At 31 December 2023, there was £456,009 of unrestricted funds held as cash in hand or in current or deposit acC￿Unts. The PCC seeks to maintain the Reserve Balance at the policy level throughout the year by setting an annual budget that complies with the wlicy and by monitoring the budget on a regular basis. If the level of unrestricted cash funds falls below the Reserve Balance at any time. the Treasurer should infomi the Trustees at the eartiest opportunity. It is our policy to invest our funds balan￿S wth CBF Church of England Deposit Fund.
