The The church church continues continues[to] to actively actively welcome welcome any any persons persons who[who] wish wish[to] to hear hear the[the] Good Good News News of of

the the Kingdom Kingdom of of God. God. In In line line with with many many other other churches churches in in the the UK UK membership membership has has been been in in gradual gradual decline. decline. The The Elders Elders are are aware aware of of the the changing changing profile profile of of its its congregation congregation and and are are investigating investigating likely[likely] causes causes and and opportunities opportunities for[for] encouraging encouraging more more[individuals,] individuals, families families and and young young[people] people to[to] worship[worship][with] with[us.] us. During During[2024] 2024 the[the] church church was was[concerned] concerned[with] with[planning] planning for[for] two[two] future[future] aspects aspects[critical] critical aspects aspects[of] of church church life,[life,] arrangements arrangements[for] for future[future][mission] mission and and[ministry] ministry and and the[the] necessary necessary redevelopment[redevelopment][of] of the the Church Church Estate. Estate.

The The church church continued continued[in] in ministerial ministerial vacancy vacancy throughout throughout[2024] 2024 and and up up until until the[the] date date of of this[this] report. report. We We had had[the] the support support of of Rev. Rev. Nigel Nigel Uden Uden as as our our[Interim] Interim Moderator[Moderator] until[until][his] his retirement[retirement][in] in July July 2025. 2025. We We are are now now without without an an Interim[Interim] Moderator Moderator but but are are about about to[to] enter enter the the Four Four Rivers[Rivers] Mission Mission[Partnership] Partnership along along[with] with churches[churches][from] from Whittlesford, Whittlesford, Sawston, Sawston,[Clare,] Clare, Safron Safron Walden Walden

and and Thaxted. Thaxted. A A vacancy vacancy is[is] due due[to] to[be] be declared declared[in] in[October] October[2025] 2025 with[with] a a[view] view to[to] appointing[appointing] a[a] minister minister with[with] primary[primary] oversight oversight of[of] Bishop’s[Bishop's][Stortford] Stortford and and Saffron Saffron Walden.[Walden.]

Following Following lockdown lockdown[restraints] restraints on on operations operations of[of] church church and and hall hall lettings, lettings, several several user user groups groups closed closed altogether altogether or or made made alternative alternative arrangements arrangements due due to[to] the the prospective prospective closure closure of[of] the the hall. hall. Opportunities Opportunities for for fundraising fundraising have have been been slow slow to to return return to to pre-lockdown pre-lockdown levels levels as as the the church' church’. Our Our major fundraising major fundraising effort[effort] is[is] the[the] bazaar bazaar[in] in November. November.[This] This was was successful successful and and raised[raised] £768[E768] for for charitable charitable causes. causes. Redevelopment Redevelopment of[of] Church Church[Estate] Estate As As of of the[the] date date of of[this] this report, report,[the] the Church Church has has moved moved[into] into[the] the refurbished refurbished Church Church Building[Building] and[and] ended ended[the] the lease[lease] on on[the] the Church[Church][Hall] Hall[with] with East East Herts[Herts][District] District[Council.] Council. The The first[first] service service was was[held] held in in the the Church Church on on 21 21 September September 2025. 2025. An An open open afternoon afternoon was was held held on on October October 4 4 2025 2025 to to rereintroduce introduce the the building building to to the the local local community. community. A A Service Service of of Rededication Rededication of of the the Church Church will will be be held held on on 8[8] November November 2025. 2025.

Our Our initial initial costings costings[for] for the[ the] Church Church Extension Extension[prior] prior to[to] the[the][hall] hall being being sold sold indicated indicated the the works works would would be be covered covered by by the the proceeds proceeds of of the the Hall Hall sale. sale. However, However, the the more more complex complex design design required required[to] to meet meet planning planning concerns concerns together together with with the[the] recent[recent] rapid rapid price price increases increases in[in] building[building] materials materials means means this[this] is[is] no no[longer] longer the[the] case. case. The The[project] project has[has] therefore therefore been been split split into into two two phases. phases. We We are are very very[grateful] grateful not not only only for for the[the] finance, finance, but but for for the[the] civic civic support[support][for] for the[the] project project that that[it] it represents represents as as it[it] is is very very much much our our intention[intention][to] to make make[the] the enhanced enhanced Church[Church]

building building available available[for] for wider wider community community use. use. Once Once work work commenced commenced[in] in[2025,] 2025, the[the] Council[Council][paid] paid

the the grant grant[to] to the the church church.

FINANCIAL FINANCIAL REVIEW REVIEW

The The charity charity has has opted[opted][to] to produce[produce] accounts accounts on on[the] the Receipts Receipts and and Payments[Payments] basis[basis][for] for[2024,] 2024, taking taking advantage advantage of of the[the] provisions provisions of of Section[Section][133(1)] 133(1) of of the[the] Charities Charities Act Act[2011.] 2011. The The accounts accounts take take the[the][form] form of of a a Receipts Receipts and and Payments Payments account account for[for] 2024[2024] and and a[a][Statement] Statement[of Assets] of Assets and and Liabilities Liabilities as as[at] at 31[31] December December[2024.] 2024. While While we we welcomed welcomed some some new new users users since since the the pandemic, pandemic, many many organisations organisations did did not not return, return, particularly[particularly] given given that that the the church church hall hall was was slated slated to[to] close. close. Running Running costs costs stayed stayed high, high, with with much much of of the[the] plant plant and and equipment equipment being[being] at[at] end end of of life.[life.] However, However,[the] the church church hall hall was was vital vital to[to][the] the continuity continuity of of the[the] charity charity in[in][2025] 2025 when[when] the[the] church church building building itself itself closed closed for for[refurbishment.] refurbishment. Now Now that that[the] the hall hall has has been been vacated,[vacated,] this this area area of[of] expenditure expenditure has has[finished.] finished.

As As noted[noted] above, above, many many of of the[the] regular regular church church[hall] hall users users[have] have been been able[able] to[to] relocate relocate their[their] activities activities to[to] the[the] refurbished refurbished church church building.[building.][We] We also also anticipate anticipate that[that] the[the][building] building[will] will be[be] used[used]

by by additional additional local local organisations. organisations.
