Structure, governance and management
The charity is an unincorporated entity consisting of thirteen board members who are the trustees. The annual and life membership fees are £10 and £200 respectively. The committee is elected in a general meeting to serve for a term of two years.
Objectives and activities
The objective of the charity is to provide facilities for the rehabilitation of children with learning difficulties who reside within the limits of Vavuniya district in Sri Lanka, mobilise their full potential and maintain their self esteem.

Achievements and performance
ORHAN Sri Lanka (UK) was established on 15th November 2002 on an informal basis. It was then formalized under a structured constitution as an Association on 21st June 2003 and was subsequently registered as a charity in the UK under registration number 1129702 on 18th May 2009.
ORHAN Vavuniya, which is a registered charity in Sri Lanka with the registration number "DVS/NEP/SS 53" was established on 27th January 1999 by disabled people from Vavuniya district to foster the well-being of people who have various forms of disabilities. One of their many projects was a Training Centre for children with learning difficulties under the name of "Puthuvalvu Poonga".
ORHAN Sri Lanka (UK) provides funds for the running cost of Puthuvalvu Poonga, which includes the provisions for books, uniforms, refreshments, lunch, staff wages and transport for children. Although ORHAN Sri Lanka (UK) is the main donor, a few other NGOs and individuals do donate to Puthuvalvu Poonga directly.
The number of beneficiaries at Puthuvalvu Poonga varied over the years and currently it is 75. Puthuvalvu Poonga is now functioning from its own freehold premise which has been acquired recently with the help of some local and international charitable organisations.
Financial review
Funds have been raised solely in the UK by way of voluntary contributions.

As described on the statement of financial position, the trustees of the charity are responsible for the preparation of the financial statements for the year ended 30 June 2025.which comprise the statement of financial activities, statement of financial position and the related notes.
You consider that the charity is exempt from an audit under the Charities Act 2011.

1 General information
The charity is a public benefit entity and a registered charity in England and Wales and is unincorporated. The address of the principal office is 557 High Road, Wembley, Middlesex, HA0 2DW.
2 Statement of compliance
These financial statements have been prepared in compliance with FRS 102, 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and the Republic of Ireland', the Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (Charities SORP (FRS 102)) and the Charities Act 2011.
3 Accounting policies
Basis of preparation
The financial statements have been prepared on the historical cost basis, as modified by the revaluation of certain financial assets and liabilities and investment properties measured at fair value through income or expenditure.
The financial statements are prepared in sterling, which is the functional currency of the entity.
Designated funds are unrestricted funds earmarked by the trustees for particular future project or commitment.
Restricted funds are subjected to restrictions on their expenditure declared by the donor or through the terms of an appeal, and fall into one of two sub-classes: restricted income funds or endowment funds.

Resources expended
Expenditure is recognised on an accruals basis as a liability is incurred. Expenditure includes any VAT which cannot be fully recovered, and is classified under headings of the statement of financial activities to which it relates:
expenditure on raising funds includes the costs of all fundraising activities, events, noncharitable trading activities, and the sale of donated goods.
expenditure on charitable activities includes all costs incurred by a charity in undertaking activities that further its charitable aims for the benefit of its beneficiaries, including those support costs and costs relating to the governance of the charity apportioned to charitable activities.
other expenditure includes all expenditure that is neither related to raising funds for the charity nor part of its expenditure on charitable activities.
All costs are allocated to expenditure categories reflecting the use of the resource. Direct costs attributable to a single activity are allocated directly to that activity. Shared costs are apportioned between the activities they contribute to on a reasonable, justifiable and consistent basis.
